Antique Hand Carved Oriental Throne Chair pre 1900
My grandfather brought two of these remarkable hand carved original antique thrones at about the turn of the century 1900. He hade two daughters and gave one to each. It was my mothers and has sat safely and respectably in our family's home for many years. We have done some research and we bilieve it is from the Dhing Dynasty era. As each piece was made to specifications of the current emporer. It is in excellent shape and was displayed in the homes but not used. The artisan craftmanship of this work of art is amazing and very detailed, The quality of craftmanship is evident. It is a true museum piece that originated from royalty. It is in original condition- never refinished.

Wow. What a find, RARE RARE RARE. Sorry to say but I am not knowledgable to this type of furniture and can not for sure state the type of wood. Several experts have examined these pieces. They too are uncertain. We all feel these are very RARE. As a viewer, if you have knowledge to share we would welcome it. This settee was obtained from a local grand colonial estate. We believe this to be from the early 1800's. The workmanship is magnificent. The carving seems to portray serpents/dragon-like creatures facing each other at the root portion of the pineapple? found at the top. There are a few small cracks and we noted only one scuff. All shown in photos(see comments below) Really for this age, both pieces are in EXCELLENT condition. The wood seam on right top side of the chair has just recently seperated after a very large person sat in ... moreit. Back and arms are covered with a gorgeous detailed woven carpet(all original) like material which is directly nailed to the frame. The condition is indicative of the care this chair has received. The back. Seat and arm upholstery has been replaced with a 1940's style white& green floral brocade fabric. There are areas where the fabric has faded from the chair being placed near a window. The upper portion of the arms is covered in matching upholstery. The front skirt and side skirts boast finely carved medallion with acanthus scrolls flanked on either side by a detailed squared off areas containing flowers and diamond cross motifs. It looks to me to have some of the features of both the Edwardian and Eastlake Victorian styles. It has been stripped of the original DARK finish to reveal the beautiful Golden Oak. the upholstery is most likely not original but it is solid and matches without being gaudy the Hand carved Flowers in the head area are wonderful as well as the half circle carvings across the top. the sides facing the front are carved with what looks like scales or stylized leaves or a vine. This beautiful rocking chair with hand carving was built c.1850. I bought it 25 years ago from an antique store in Dallas. It was from the historic Saragossa plantation near Natchez. Mississippi. Measures 42 inches tall. 24 inches wide with a 4 inches tall cushion. I was told by three people in the antique furnature business that this was made most likely between 1865-1870. 1800's ORNATE HAND CARVED CHAIR w/ANGELS & CHERUBS - APPRENTICE PIECE?
Hand carved ornate chair from late 1700's- 1800's. I was told by a friend who is into wood furniture that he thought this was an apprectice's piece from Rome or Italy(he said it was too ornate to be English) The angels have normal baby faces. But the cherubs all have same older man's face- probally a leader/politician of the time. The seat part where string or cane was threaded through the holes to hold the seat in place is broken a some places and need to be repaired or replaced. And I think it once held a potty pot. This may have been made for an elder or even maybe a child. To me it looks very old. Maybe cowboy days, but I am not an expert. The chair contains no nails. I tried to photo but it is difficult to shoot shiny white fabric with a small digital camera. Each place is about 2" from the front and 2" from the side. It is like something rough was placed on the edge of the seating area leaving a few tiny picks in the thread. You really have to look to see them. Also. The cherub on the left as you face the chair is missing his leg. I know another can be carved, I even have a name of someone in the LA area but I have not pursued it. I had this appraised once. The appraiser said that it is hand carved with several styles which lead him to suggest it came from the North East in the US and was probably carved there by German. The chair measures approximately 41.5" in height at the back center. The width across the seat at the front is 17 7/8" and the width across the seat at the back is 14 7/8" The height of the seat is 18.75" The construction on this is unusual. There are three boards that make up the back and the end boards run through the back part of the seat. There are age and use appropriate scratches. I gave up as it became futile. What I can tell you about the chairs. The chairs are solid wood& hand carved. I am unsure of the wood. The chairs appear to be from around the mid to late 1800's. During this time period generally mahogany was used. But I cannot verify the wood. The black material appears to be leather. Dating of the chair came from the springs- thick/heavy. I do not know if the leather is the original material. The style of the chair leads me to believe it came from Europe. These are generally what is called a throne chair. The story goes that they were placed in front of the fire with a matching footrest(not available) in the drafty castle to stay warm. Concerns: Obviously there are concerns with the chairs. I was not able to capture all concerns in the pictures- not enough picture space on ebay. The main concerns are the cracks demonstrated throughout the pictures. There are cracks in the chairs that have been repaired(you can see the glue/cracks in areas) I did not do any repairing-

19C Savonarola Hand Carved Lion Renaissance Folding Chair
This19th Century version of the Renaissance Savonarola chair is in wonderful condition. I display it in my living room. And invite guests to sit in it during their visit. It is true to the original design(attributed to 15th Century Florentine friar Girolamo Savonarola) And you can removing the back splat and fold the chair up easily. I bought this Savonarola chair from an antiques dealer. Who said that it is a Civil War-era chair. These were packed away until the army made camp. When the general or other high ranking officer would sit in it to relax. Dine and discussed battle strategy. Some of the gilding is still visible on the lion head arms. And the dolphins, acanthus leaves and fleur-de-lis carvings that decorate the back. The chair has the normal wear associated with its age. There are a few small checks to one of the carved lion heads ... morethat terminate the arms. The next to back leg rung on the left side(the side shown in the next to last photo) has a break all the way through it. Approximately six inches from the top, although it is not readily visible. No repairs have been attempted, and the chair has not been cleaned. I presume that this is oak. But I am not certain. Up for bid is an Antique Scandinavian Carved Mahogany Dragon Head Chair from the late 1800s. It is in good condition for it's age with no cracks or damage to the wood. It is in need of a new seat cushion and could be refinished if desired. The wood is very sturdy and the two dragon heads on each side of the chair are very ornate and in nice condition. Beautiful Antique Victorian Hand Carved Arm Chair, No Reserve!
This is a beautiful Victorian carved arm chair. In excellent condition. Except for the upholstery, which isn't original anyway. I was going to redo this piece before listing it, but then thought you'd probably want to"decorate" it to your taste. The carvings are all intact, and the finish on the wood itself is also very nice. The only"damage" if it could be called that, is that there are tack holes visible on the legs where the original upholstery was attached. It is evident that the original padded seat went around the legs there, and obviously that's the way you'd want to do it again. Otherwise this chair is very heavy and solid. It measures 47" high, 27" wide, and 30" deep. This item is too big to ship UPS, so I would prefer local pickup only. Low starting bid and no reserve!

19C Savonarola Hand Carved Lion Renaissance Folding Table & Chair Set
I don't know a lot about this set. However, I have done my homework and can probably answer most questions. Most I have found date back to the 18 and early 1900's possible 19th century Italian, but have also been told that it may have been used in the Civil war era for the high ranking officers to use when dining and discussing battler strategies. I can find a few here and there for sale in individual pieces, however this is the only FULL set I have located. They are made from Mahogany although many call the wood"Iron wood" due to its strength and durability. They are hand carved and unique in a fashion that you simply remove the top part and they can fold like scissors and have commonly been referred to as"scissor chairs" The table also folds in much the same way by sliding the glass out. They have Lions heads ... moreon both arms and lions feet as well. these really are in excellent condition from what I can tell, but again, I am not an antique dealer, but I do spend a lot of time at auctions and have some basic understanding of things. Simply put, don't play me for stupid it won't work I know how rare this full set is. The chair has the normal wear associated with its age. The chair is in excellent condition. Free of chips, cracks, or restorations. The gold leaf is bright, and virtually complete. My best guess is that the chair was re-gilted sometime in the 1930s, but the gilting is not modern. It measures 38" tall. 17" wide, and 18" deep. We have for sale a delightful Victorian Parlor Chair. This piece is made purely for decorating. sitting is an option. But the time your sitting your not seeing all the hand carved beautiful. The entire back is a carved work of art. This chair looks like a beautiful little outdoor lattice. It has vines, berries and leaves all around the oval back. The legs are beautifully carved as well. We place this chair at about 1870. It is all solid wood and looks to be a dark walnut. The seat is a nice size and is covered in needlepoint. We are not sure if the finish and covering are original. But they are very old that is for sure. The chair is solid but has a repair at the back side piece. The chair needs a good polishing it has been stored all winter. The chair measures 42" tall by18 1/2" by 14" deep. We are selling it"As Is" ... moredue to its Antiquity. This chair will go our by ground.
