Rare Pair of 19th c. Colonial Wood & Cane Corner Chairs
A very unique and rare(likely one-of-a-kind. Artisan-made) pair of corner chairs with caned seats and caned rounded backs. They have overtones of Dutch Colonial"Burgermeister" chairs and some French influence as well. The rounded backs have a slightly rolled edge and are supported at three corners with thin, turned spindle legs. The two backs of the chairs are supported by four"S" shaped vertical slats. Each chair has a spindle"X" base support structure as well. They are constructed of hard wood and the original hand caning, which needs repair. These are two victorian cane chairs for sale. As the photos show. One is in good condition, with only issue being a section of the cane seating that has become stretched out. Still quite comfortable and stable. The other chair needs to be completely remade. It has been painted black. And the cane seating is completely ripped. It also may need to be sanded, since the wood has some sun damage, and some slight splintering had just started to occur. A most wonderful oak dining set in the Louis XV style from the late 19th century. The oak ornaments are carvings of bellflowers. Scallop shells, and scrolling acanthus leaves, the table and chairs in the original brown finish, the carvings gilt accented. New foam cushions with Louis XV style fabric covers. The cane back rests are all original(four of the seat canes are new caning, one back side chair caning with small hole. The table without skirtless leaves is a round 60" with all 4 leaves added it extends to 9'4" 112" There are four 13" wide leaves in wood storage case, and fitted covers, included. The arm chairs measure 45" tall by 27" wide, the seats 19" deep, the side chairs 41" tall by 18" wide, the seats 15" deep. This set of 4 Antique Primitive chairs were hand crafted in the late 1800's in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania. They are really unique beautiful chairs. Lots of elegant hand carvings adorn the back and arm rests as well as under the seat. The seat measures 18" from the floor and over all chair height is 33" 3 of the 4 have recently been recaned. These would be a beautiful set for a dining table or for desk chairs. As they are over 120 years old they do show some age however it appears to be only minor cosmetic issues. Three oak bentwood chairs with cane seats. One of these chairs has a paper tag reading. Herhold Chicago. The other two have the name, Herhold Chicago" engraved into the wood on one side of the base of the seat. Between 1870 and 1885, Chicago, Ill. went from bring the fourth largest furniture producing center behind Cincinnati, Ohio, Philadelphia, Pa. and NYC. to the number one largest furniture producing center, after a slow restart from the famous Chicago fire of 1871. Its attractiveness to investors was its great development as a railroad hub and for manufacturing products made from wood, there was no match for its location in the amount of lumber that passed through the city daily. By consulting the 1870 census’ list of manufacturers engaged in manufacturing furniture, a Frederick Herhold is listed as one of the seven largest furniture ... moremakers of that time. It was also noted that Messrs. F. Herhold and A.P. Johnson jointly owned the largest chair factory of that time, employing a capital of not over $50,000. In 1885, the partners“were divided by two separate concerns” and Herhold Furniture was once again its own company. By 1900 census, Herbold Furniture is not listed in the top furniture manufacturing companies. By all this, we can assume the bentwood chairs where the company name is engraved were made by Herhold Furniture sometime in the 1870s. Your bid is for this very nice pair of Antique Prayer chairs. Made from American Wormy Chestnut Wood and having Rush Cane Seats. They have a wonderful French Country look and from what I can tell. Date to the early 1900's. They are in good condition for their age and are still quite sturdy. I weigh in at almost 200 pounds and they both held me comfortably. They show some scuffs and marks as would be expected on utilitarian pieces such as these. I would say they have been nicely re-caned at one time- not recently- and may have seen some repairs along the way, as can be seen in my pics. Modern glide feet have been added to the legs to prevent floor scuffing. One chair(left one in pics) has a small piece of seat molding missing at the bottom. Each measures approximately 32" tall. Exquisite Pair of Authentic Art Nouveau Chairs with Woven Cane Seats
Superb pair of handcrafted chairs. With the sinuous style of the Art Nouveau period, in excellent antique condition. I believe these are Viennese but they don't have a signature nor any other identifying information other than their style and craftsmanship. The frames are mahogany and the woven cane seats, though replaced about 40 years ago by an expert in caning, are exact reproductions of the intricate pattern of the originals. My pictures show the pair; the backs. Seats and legs of each chair; a full back view of one chair; a seat underside view; and the small crack at the top of one leg on one chair that can easily be repaired by a restorer. The chairs are sturdy but I wouldn't recommend them for daily use. These are treasures! The chairs measure 33" tall. With seats that are 17 1/4" from the floor to the seat pad. The ... moreseats themselves measure 16" across the front and 14 1/4" deep. The handcarved backs measure 15" across. Recently refurbished(set of six) beautiful cane chairs.These chairs are beautiful and comfortable with their little side arms. The seat at its widest is about 1' 5& 1/2 inches. The arms have a spread of 1' 7 inches. The back from the seat of the chair to the top is about 1' and 6& 3/4 inches high. The chairs are about 2' 11 inches tall. One of the cane seats has a very small flaw and really not noticeable even when trying to find it and remains very strong. One leg on the back one of the cane chairs appears to have been broken but fixed and very hard to locate. They are beautiful and in grand condition. If you have the table. I have the chairs. ORIGINAL THONET SET 8 ANTIQUE DINING CHAIRS BENTWOOD CANE GOLD GILT WIEN LABELS
I will ship anywhere! This is an auction for the most incredible all original set of Thonet chairs. I have been in the antique business for 15 years and have never even seen a set of labeled Thonet Wien chairs at an auction or estate sale.and then I found this set which is from a prominent New York art dealer's estate. They have been in storage for at least 25 years and are in near pristine condition. Since listing these chairs. I have spoken with a Thonet expert in Europe and he has been kind enough to shed some light on a few questions that I ad about the chairs. Each chair has a small square paper label with a number and in the example shown it is the number"37" and the other chair numbers are 24. 25, 31, 32, 40, 43, 57 which he points out since the numbers are not repeated and that they are so close together that they were ... moremade from the same charge. A few of the chairs bear their same number on the leg and incised. The gold paint was a special order from the customer who had the choice of dye or paint. This particular Thonet chair is rare when compared with regular Thonet bentwood chairs. He stated that it is shown in the 1904 catalog as reprinted by Dover Publications, New York on page 7. I cannot find another Thonet chair like this.the only place I can find anything like it is in a period Thonet advertisement. Each has the cane seat and cane back with turned and reeded legs in the front and more of a saber leg in the rear. There is the round bentwood"ring" which seems to float between the legs. They are all original.original cane even which is remarkable for over 100 year old chairs. Original gold gilding with some wear which only lends to the pure deliciousness of these chairs. Prior to storing these chairs. The seat pads were made and the top back of the chairs had the same fabric added with a draping look.both of these added to protect the cane seat and back. This is why the cane is all original.these chairs have either been coveted and/or in storage.and the only way to keep this

Set of 6 Rate Antique Harp Back Dining Chairs with Cane Seats
Extremely rare and beautiful set of Antique dining chairs. Detailed craftsmanship and ornate designs. Done in a very rare"David's Harp" style back. The wicker has been replaced on several of them. A few still have older. Damaged wicker, but can still be used. History of chairs: what I do know of the chairs is that they were purchased by my grandparents between 40-50 years ago. My grandparents were antique dealers and realized they had made a great find. Instead of selling them my put them in their dining room, and used them occasionally. I aquired them several years ago, after their passing. I had a few of them repaired by an Amish furniture maker and refinisher. A few of the seams and rungs were loose, nothing broken. The Amish man said that it wouldn't cost too much to replace the wicker in them. He noted that he has never ... moreseen a style like these and that they are exceptionally rare.
