The fabric is usable, but it needs to be cleaned as it is dirty. Look at the size of the spindles on the solid oak chair. It is an oversized chair. It is heavy duty. It has the patented recognizable Hunzinger spring mechanism. They often have the paper label underneath, but I am sure this one is gone. This chair is all tight, sturdy and is in tiger sawn oak. You are looking at a 1880's Eastlake Style Victorian Platform Rocking Chair. Aka Patent Rocker. This particular chair, made by Streit& Schmit, Cincinnati, OH is in very good condition. The original patent was issued on January 19, 1875 and Reissued on January 23, 1880. I have copies of the patent paperwork filed by Charles Streit that I will include with the chair. I do not know the exact age of this beautiful piece but it dates to about 1890. This is a unique find as most often the adult or child size versions are found. The youth size is slightly larger than the child size allowing for an older child to use the rocker. This rocker came out of an estate in Cape May almost 20 years ago when I purchased it. I have not attempted to change the coverings it was found with. It could use a good polishing. But I will leave that to the new owner. This is a beautiful antique hand carved oak platform rocker that has been totally restored. The wood was finished in a satin clear and it has brand new upholstery with all new padding. It has high-back styling with upholstered crest rail over four spindle trim. Padded back flanked by turned supports with finials, padded open arms with ring-turned and ball ends, and reeded rocker supports. This chair has been in our family for over 35 years. We purchased it from an antique dealer in Gilroy. I have up for sale a gorgeous vintage/ antique circa 1880's Victorian GEORGE HUNZINGER duplex spring Barley Twist Mahogany Platform Rocker/ Rocking Chair. The rocker is in Very Nice Original Condition- comes direct from the estate of a local Surgeon- who deceased last year. It still maintains the original bottom side paper logo- The Hunzinger Duplex Spring patent dated Sept 26. 1882- as shown in pic#4. The rocker is priced to sell considering the economic conditions. The rocker is in Excellent Condition- it has obviously been reupholstered at some time in the past but otherwise original. The finish is very nice- clean- some normal minor to be expected light wear but overall excellent. There are no damages nor any repairs to the wood. The rocker is extremely sturdy and from the pics you may not notice- but the wood is quite substantial- ... morethe top rail is approx 1-1/2" thick and the barley twist posts below the arms are approx 1-3/4" thick. c1890 Antique Walnut RARE Child Size Victorian Platform Rocker Huntzinger Style Presenting an extremely RARE child size walnut platform rocker. I do not know the exact age of this beautiful piece but it dates to about 1890. This rocker came out of an estate in Cape May almost 20 years ago when I purchased it. I have not attempted to change the coverings it was found with. It could use a good polishing. But I will leave that to the new owner. The rocker is in the Huntzinger style with its beautiful turned arms and stiles. There is no major damage or repairs. For its age. It is in very good condition overall. Measurements: 37 inches tall from the top spindle to the bottom platform, 15 ½ inch opening for the seat between the arms, and 22 inches wide from the back of the platform to the front. I have up for sale a gorgeous vintage circa 1860s to 1880s Antique Victorian Walnut DIMINUTIVE SIZE platform rocker. This rocker is a petite size- basically for a woman or smaller framed person. It is lower from the ground to the seat than most rockers of this type and somewhat more narrow than a conventional platform rocker. One of my later pics shows the rocker next to a large Hunzinger Platform rocker and in another pic next to a pair of Victorian Side Chairs- this will help with get an idea of just how big/small this item is. Its almost like what I would call a youth size. More for a petite woman or a smaller framed man- definitely not for any one who is heavy or tall. Hunzinger was a furniture designer from Germany. Who imported to the USA back around the Victorian boom and came out with a really nice line of furniture. He patented this hinge mechanism that is underneath this rocker to make his rockers most unique. At the time he had the only spring mechanism like this, which is easily identified. There is usually a paper label underneath the bottom platform, but they get lost over the years. This particular rocker dates from the 1880s. This one came in and the finish was worn and the seat was all ripped up. All we had to do was strip it, glue it, sand it, stain it, spray it, upholster it and sell it. Those are the steps we do here to provide you this beautiful furniture. This gorgeous chair was most likely maple or birch, but we stained it this stunning dark reddish brown mahogany color, which is what the factory would have done back in the day. The overall size across the first two balls on the arm is 23 inches wide, 20 inches deep on the seat, approximately 33 inches high to the top, 21 inches high to the front ball on the arm and the seat is 15 inches high. Robert Klei n(owner of Roberts Antiques& Restoration in Pensacola) identified this as a Platform Carpet Rocker manufactured around 1885 from the wood of a Cherry tree(possibly combined with a little sweet gum. Maple and/or beech wood, only because this would’ve been common practice during the Victorian Era) Determining an exact manufacturer wasn’t possible without a label as there were a number of companies in operation at the time. It’s in really good condition for being nearly 130 years old. With only minor age-related wear/imperfections here and there(including a faded/discolored spot on the seat) Most are really quite unnoticeable unless looking for them. 1800s Hunzinger Platform Rocker
George Hunzinger was a cabinet and furniture maker from the Philadelpia area. Who came from overseas during the Victorian period, and designed some beautiful pieces. He is the only one with a patent on this particular platform spring mechanism, which easily identifies a Hunzinger rocker with duplex spring. Red velvet seat and walnut barley twist detail are both in excellent condition.

Splendid Victorian Eastlake Walnut& Burl Button& Tufted Platform Rocker c1880 Being offered for sale is this splendid Eastlake Victorian Walnut& burl walnut platform rocker circa 1880's. This 19th century rocker offers lovely period incised. Spoon and geometric carvings with the original porcelain casters intact on the base. The vintage fabric is a beautiful biscuit colored damask and is in wonderful condition, however apparently the gimp was applied with some sort of glue that has turned brown with age and does show thru the gimp in some areas here and there which I have tried to show in the pictures. This platform rocker is tight and sturdy and has no breaks or issues we can find. I BELIEVE THAT THE MAROON/BURGUNDY VELVET UPHOLSTERY IS THE ORIGINAL AND IS STILL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.NO SPOTS, NO RIPS, ETC.MANUFACTURER PLATE ON BOTTOM OF THE ROCKER INDICATES PATENT DATES OF OCT.20, 1874 AND MAY 23, 1876.
