French Louis XV Style Carved Wingback Arm Chair(or Bergère) Late 19th to Early 20th Century. Probably c. 1880-1910, France Item# 120012WIU03 This is a remarkable and precise work. A heavily and tastefully carved Louis XV Wingback Antique Arm Chair of the Rococo Revival period. This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. These arms flank a deep and very comfortable down upholstered cushion, thick and very supportive, ... morecomplimenting the overall cant of the chair- by leaning just slightly backwards. This wonderful side chair is in its original white paint with gold decorations. The frame is tight and has recently been re-sprung and covered in Scalamandre silk stripe fabric in celadon and ivory.
