Delaware Valley 4-Slat Ladder Back Rocking Chair, Late 18th C Antique, Rush Seat
This is a late 18th C Delaware River Valley rocking chair. These chairs were made along the Delaware River in Pennsylvania. New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. They are characterized by the bulbous turnings on the front stretcher, turned front legs, concave and reverse graduated slats and bulbous finials. I suspect that this chair was converted to a rocker in the early 19th C when they became popular. The oak rockers have a great early profile and they were affixed with strong saddle joinery and wooden pegs. The rush seat is old but not original. Likewise, the finish is very old and appropriate, but perhaps not original. This chair is 42.75"H, 24.5"W, 37"D, with a 17" seat height. There appears to be an old repair to the right arm but there is no movement(please see pictures) There is no real joinery movement at all, and ... morethe chair easily supports my 230 lbs. We did nothing to the finish and the chair has a great old patina. It is very likely that this chair has resided in this area(Delaware County, PA) for the last 220+ years. Antique shaker style ladder back chair with rush weave seat. Acorn finale on back posts. Notches on top of middle slat and bottom of lower slat. Front legs are extended with small hole in the center. This is truly a child sized chair, a prized find out in the field, we are pleased to bring to the table for purchase this week. Ladderback Chair measures a mere 28" tall with a seat proportion of 13" x 16.5" resting on tapered original legs not cut down. Not ended out. The rungs clear the floor 3" all good original proportions. Nicely turned simple design, with elegant country elements, but not a crude depiction by far; the little chair ... moreexudes much grace. I have a news clipping that shows children of period times often turned these over, holding onto upper ladderback ends, pushing them across the floor, to learn to walk and steady themselves; the one so pictured looks very much like this one right on target. Black paint made from oxides was the most common 18th c color that hangs on tight and ages well. Has original painted floral folk art design in the colors of red. Blue, black, green& white and woven rush seat. The previous owner was an avid antique doll collector and she used this chair to display her fine Antique dolls! This little chair is completely hand wrought with hand carved rungs. Including the Brick Store Museum in Maine. This wonderful piece measures 15.5 inches at tallest and 10.5 inches across bottom and 8.5 inches across top. Rush seat is excellent. Rush seat child's rocker made in Keene. NH circa 1875. This rocker is made of hardwood-probably maple turnings with flat arms and a rush seat. It is stamped with the maker's mark on the right arm. What can be read clearly says BURDETTE Keene, N. H. According to the"History of Cheshire County, NH" George Burdette began manufacturing chairs in Keene in 1872. It is in good condition: all rungs in place, no damage to the rockers but has a crack on the left arm where it attaches to the back. It was repaired with a nail many years ago. The arm is secure. The chair stands 29" in height to the top rail on the back, measures 18" from arm to arm across the front and the seat is 10 1/2" from the floor. It measures 23" from the front of the chair to the end of the rocker. The days of sawmills and furniture manufacture ... morein New Hampshire are long gone. We are pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL 19th century chair(2 available) The chair features heavily carved. Walnut frame. It is a high back design with a slightly Gothic profile. The back is open in a Ladder Back fashion with a large, rounded medallion at the tops. The rounded sections are arched and scalloped on their lower sections. It is exquisitely carved in an intricate urn and floral pattern which is similar to that of the French Brittany style. A carved, scalloped design is also present. The lower cross"ladder" supports are arched, with the arches notched in a flower petal design, and have a center carved fan shaped accent. The upper side supports feature sections of elongated turned wood and unique finials. The legs are turned wood with both upper and lower supports. The front legs are accented with double turned wood supports ... moreas well as an upper support which repeats the design of the ladder back pieces. The rush seat is original and features thick fibers which are assembled in 4 distinct, triangular patterns. The chair is in very good condition for age. The wood has some minor areas of wear to the finish. The seat has some expected wear to the fibers but, in general, it is also in very good condition. From the back view, you can see where the two sections of the back medallions come together. The chair is fairly heavy and it is sturdy. Here is an antique rocking chair attributed to the Seperatists of Zoar in Ohio. Circa 1830-1850. Old yellow mustard paint on maple wood. Rush seat has been replaced some time ago. And is in excellent condition. The high back has split turned spindles with flat side to front. All wood appears to be original or very old. Rare Antique PA Dutch Folk Art Primitive Child Doll Ladder Back Rush Seat Chair
This is a Pennsylvania dutch farm fresh child chair. The chair is an excellent example of PA dutch craftsmanship. It is all hand made and hand painted. Most of the original paint still exist and the rush seat is in fairly good condition. This will make a great accent piece in so many areas. The chair was said to be from the late 1800's or so. Antique stenciled Hitchcock side or parlor chair. Uncommon"turtle back" shape has characteristic gold stenciling over a black finish. The main design features a group of fruits with additional geometric accents across the chair. The chair also has a rush seat and turned legs and stretchers. The company signature on the back of the seat dates this chair between 1825 and 1832. This chair is in very good condition considering its age. There is some breakage to the rush seat as well as damage to the painted finish. Mostly at edges and corners. See pictures. No other breaks or repairs. The chair stands 34" tall and measures 18" wide. The seat is 15.5" deep.

Shabby Antique Victorian Hand Painted Floral Rush Seat Baby Child Doll Chair
This is a fantastic. Charming original Victorian hand painted floral chair with hand turned legs and spindles and woven rush seat. The chair was made for a very small child(toddler-size) and would work well for a larger doll. It is in all original condition with many areas of chipped paint, and one of the wooden spindles is missing(between the legs in the front) and all joints could use some new glue because they all seem a little loose. Nothing is broken and the rush seat is entirely intact. It measures 13 1/2" L x 12" W x 24" H. It will be packed very well and insured during shipping.
