ANTIQUE ROYCROFT ART POTTERY LITTLE BROWN JUG ARTS CRAFTS OVOID STONEWARE CROCK!
I am selling my highly collectible ANTIQUE early's ROYCROFT SHOPS ARTS& CRAFTS ART POTTERY" LITTLE BROWN JUG" As I need to downsize some of my pottery collections. This darling"Little Brown Jug" stands 5" tall X 4" at the widest point of the jug body. The spout sits 7/8" above the body and the handle is large enough to put a fat finger through. The handle sits 1 1/4" out to the side. This little jug is heavy art pottery stoneware in the traditional Arts& Crafts manner with the typical satin matte glaze. The glaze is a rich coffee brown and there are several decorative"rings" under the glaze at the widest point in the body(see photos) This was made by the Roycroft Shops out of Aurora NY in the early 1900's. The jug is marked on the unglazed underside with the Roycroft" ... moreR" in a circle below the stylized cross. The impression of the stamp is not deep. But legible. The jug is in very good antique condition, it is almost 100 years old! There are no cracks, chips or repairs however the rich brown glaze does have a few little"glaze pops" here and there in the glaze only, not the clay. There are three small glaze pops that are the size of a large pin head and another a bit larger, about 1/8" in diameter. Most of these are in one area so the jug will display nicely. They are old glaze pops that are often found on art pottery, as this is the nature of the glaze. This is not considered damage as these"pops" usually occurred during firing and manufacture. The glazes are never smooth and there are usually little lumps and bumps under the glaze. These pops are tiny and well documented in my pictures. Roycroft shops art pottery is highly collectible and this is a nice size. This would look perfect with your other primitives. Mission setting or for display with dried straw flowers. I have a lot of Mission furniture and this is a nice accent piece. This is a thick, heavy little jug, thus the shipping cost. This is a great price as

Antique 2 gal G I Lazier Picton CW Ontario Cobalt Flower Decor Stoneware Jug
G I Lazier. Picton, Canada West, circa 1850, 2 gallon Stoneware Jug THIS JUG HAS NO HANDLE and is being offered AS-IS. The notes that ceramic tablewares were primarily imported into Canada from the UK and France all through the 19th century. And that only utilitarian wares were actually produced domestically, and only from the mid-century on. George Lazier, and others like him, were the pioneers of the industry. The same article notes that in the early stages of the industry in Canada, the clay itself was as often as not imported, much of it from south of the border. This stoneware jug. Ever so slightly lopsided, thrown in the pottery of George I. Lazier, in Picton, Canada West, sometime around 1850, has only one problem. its handle was broken off. The jug is 11-1/2 inches(29.2 cm) tall. 9-5/8 inches(24.5 cm) in diameter at its widest point ... moretapering to 8-1/2 inches(21.6 cm) in diameter at the base. The tapered form of the jug is noteworthy because by the 1860s stoneware potters on both sides of the border had given up the ovoid form in favor of straight-sided jugs and crocks; in ten or fifteen years potters had learned two important things, how to modify the clay mix so that it would slump less during firing and to take advantage of the fact that more straight-sided vessels could be fitted into the kiln each time they fired it. Although well on the way to being a straight-sided vessel, this is still a relatively heavy jug(9.04 pounds/ 4.1 kg) slightly ovoid, thick-walled, and it did slump somewhat during the firing, all implying that it reflects production in the early part of the period, closer to 1850 than to 1867. What is most interesting is that the scar the broken handle left where it should have been joined to the body is completely smooth, indicating that the handle was never adhered properly to the body in the first place. At the neck there was good melding with the handle so that scar is appropriately rough, but the only thing that ultimately held the handle onto the body was the layer of glaze

ANTIQUE 19THC ENGLISH STONEWARE LUSTRE GLAZED STONEWARE POTTERY CROCK JAR JUG
WHAT A CROCK OF. Gooseberry Preserves. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. It is in sound fine condition with no damage, no chips, no hairlines. nothing beyond the the usual firing scratch in the making or tiny rough clay blob on rim glazed over. I know this is English having travelled to the UK buying fields myself seeing these on offer occasionally, and this lovely example was deacessioned last week from a retired English Dealer in Gettysburg, PA who purchased it

ANTIQUE 19TH C FULPER & BROS FLEMINGTON NEW JERSEY STONEWARE PRESERVE CROCK JUG
A FULPER WELL"PRESERVED" FOR YOUR COLLECTION! Near and dear to Garden State Stoneware Collectors. Is this very nice estate fresh pickin' from our own back yard.a FULPER& BROS FLEMINGTON NJ double stamped Preserves shape Stoneware Crock with thick well formed rim to hold yesteryear's stash of pickles, condiments, horseradish, jelly, chowchow or whatever Grandma cooked up on the iron stove for winter food preservation to feed her family and the farmhands that worked our land in the century past, better known as, The Good Old Days, to those of us born, before the button pushing e-techno-tronic digital age. Back in those days, if you said"mouse" we meant that little fur critter, not a plastic thing a ma jig. And a"screen" was a wire mesh you sifted with, not something you peered at plugged in. Likewise, ... morethe"cookie" was something Grandma baked, not some computer part. Ahhh, yes. Times past, the days when this Crock was new, selling for pennies at the country store as a utilitarian object now elevated to collector status desired by every Watcher out there reading this. This Fulper& Bros is clean. Mean, and keen inside and out with well stamped blue-touched Signature on the front upper shoulder, so well, that almost double stamped; look closely to see potter artist impressing crock with die tool didn't quite catch first try, and second attempt to capture strong readable signature resulted in a shadow of first failed try with some repeated letters. Quite understandable, given it is wrought on a curved surface. We don't call it a Fulper unless it IS, we don't beleive in"Fulper attributes" in my mind, my book of rules, and my guarantee to buyer, it is not Fulper, unless it SAYS Fulper, and there is no question here. One sees a coil helix, a bird, but a plain true clearly marked simple Fulper, is just a gem on her own merit here for your browsing and buying pleasure. Crock stands 9.5" tall on a 7' diameter base. The thick stand up rim is a

OLD RED WING 15 GALLON BIG 6" WING PRE-1915 CROCK STONEWARE POTTERY GAL JUG JAR
F or your consideration is a Red Wing crock. Pre 1915, which is this one is clearly before the handle patent. These big wing crocks are getting tougher to acquire. This one is crack and damage repair free, but does show some bottom edge chippers in pics# 10& 12. Number 11 shows a factory clay dimple. Always allow for stoneware glaze skips. ANTIQUE HANDMADE STONEWARE TWO HANDLED FLASK/JUG VERY EARLY PRIMITIVE
ANTIQUE HANDMADE STONEWARE TWO HANDLED FLASK/JUG VERY EARLY PRIMITIVE I am not a stoneware expert so I am just going to tell you what I see. I have had this piece in my personal collection for years and have not been able to identify it. Any experts out there are welcome and encouraged to comment on this piece. This is a stoneware jug or flask. It is made with gray colored clay with a Bennington type glaze. It is defiantly handmade. It appears to have a base that the top was applied on to. The neck is very thin. The inside hole is only about the size of a pencil. The opening is approximately 1.5” on one side and the other side is crimped in measuring about 1” It has two applied handles. It has coggle lines. Two on one side and three on the other as it looks like they got off track with the coggle. This piece has many imperfections that were ... morea part of the making process. There are bumps. Dips, missing glaze etc. Please see pictures. I think that these imperfections are what make it so amazing. There are no cracks. It stands 8” tall, aprx. 3” wide and 4” long. CONDITION: SEE DESCRIPTION SIZE: 8” X 3” X 4” SHIPPING WEIGHT INCLUDING PACKING MATERIALS: 2.5 LBS. Payment should be sent within three days of auction end. If you will not be able to meet this requirement please let us know by email. We will be happy to work with you. WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE THE MOST ECONOMICAL SHIPPING POSSIBLE. WE USE ONLY PRIORITY MAIL TO PROVIDE TRACKING NUMBERS. THIS PROTECTS YOU THE BUYER AND US AS THE SELLER. WE DO NOT CHARGE EXTRA FOR HANDLING OR PACKING SUPPLIES.
