For sale is a Antique Albany Slip Stoneware Pottery Jar or Crock. This is an old Wax Sealer sometimes referred to as Earthenware. The jar is 4.75" tall and 4.75" in diameter. The jar is in good antique condition with some edge chipping and a ghost hairline on the base that does not show on the inside. The jar will still hold water. I rarely find these pieces in this size. I have tested it for lead so I would date it to about 1880 to 1900. Glass jars were still quite expensive so stoneware jars were still in use during the late 19th century especially in the South. Please examine the photos carefully. I take great effort to take quality photos of all angles and a picture is worth a thousand words. I guarantee the item to be as described. Wire Snap shut sealable small kitchen storage crock earthenware clay pottery
This is a small sealable kitchen crock. It is only about 3 3/4" tall(about 5 1/4" with lid and wire) And about 3 1/4" wide. If you make your own cheese or butter, this would be a great item. It is like those old crocks, made out of what I think is clay, and has a grayish color finish or glaze on it. On the front is an ivy growing out of a pot. The gasket is still in good shape, wire has no rust on it, and still snaps the lid down tight with no problems. There are a couple of small chips on the inside of the lid on the bottom, please see photos for detail. No chips or cracks that I can tell on bottom or on topside of lid that I can see. Early snuff crock from Weyman's The stamped name"Weyman's Snuff" predates the company's name change in the 1860's. Buff colored earthenware body likely made along the Ohio River. Interior glazed with Albany slip. Body was painted red at the factory. The crock is sound with no cracks. Please note the chips around the rim. I didn't see any other damage. Vintage(Antique? 2 Gallon Crock Can't find a maker's mark on this one- and no similar styles on ebay or online elsewhere that I can find for the font of the number 2 to help identify. If you're a collector. Maybe you can help me! This crock is pretty condition. But you can tell it's old so there are some dings around the lip and such. Also staining at various places. Bottom shows some felt protective spots- wonder if something was once upon a time glued to those, or if they served a different purpose. You can see the pictures for yourself.
