DESCRIP TION: This adorable little vintage crock was a speciality design years ago when they were just starting to market their product. For the Kaukauna Cheese company of Wisconsin, advertising the Kaukauna Klub. See info below for more on this. This crock is in exceptional condition with no chips or cracks, and the design is fired into the glaze. The original seal and bale are here, and the seal remains pliable. Standing about 5 inches tall, and measuring about 3-1/4 inches across, it would be darling in any country or retro kitchen! In 1918 Hubert Fassbender formed his own distributing company in Kaukauna. Wisconsin, which soon became known as South Kaukauna Dairy and eventually Kaukauna Cheese. After years of experimenting, he perfected a cold pack method of cheese production. This consists of grinding natural cheese to a fine texture ... moreand, without heat, combining it with whey solids, dry milk, and flavors such as wine and spices. The flavors come through, and the product remains spreadable at room temperature. Fassbender chose a ceramic crock as the distinctive container for his new product. His cheese was served in hotels and clubs in the area and acquired the nickname"club cheese. The Kaukauna Klub brand was introduced and copyrighted in 1933. The year the firm also began to market the product in the gray stone crock. It is now produced in vacuum sealed plastic containers in step with more modern production methods. It says copyright 1933, but I'm not sure if that actually means it was made in 1933. I can tell you it had ALOT of dust on it, when I bought it. I washed it by hand. And am pleased to tell you there are no chips, cracks or crazing. There is one spot on the side of the lid, where the blue didn't quite get all the way painted. I tried to show that in picture# 7. You are bidding on a vintage butter crock with lid. Wire bale and rubber seal in excellent condition- no cracks or chips. The small crock jar measures 3 ¼” deep and 3” wide. Not including the bale. The seal is in good condition– no cracks. This came from my family's estate sale. It has been gently used and stored on a shelf for over 40 years. CUTE Kaukauna Klub Mini Crock. Wisconsin
This is a cute little[3 1/4" wide X 2 3/8" high] miniature crock which probably held cream cheese or some sort of spread at one time. Age is unknown. But it can't be new. How many companies package their goods in little stoneware crocks these days? There is no maker's mark, but the crock is marked: KAUKAUNA KLUB MADE[ somewhat illegible] BY SOUTH KAUKAUNA DAIRY COMPANY KAUKAUNA WISCONSIN. There is a hole on either side of the crock which probably held a bail-type mechanism to clamp on a lid, such as you see in some old canning jars. Excellent condition. Super clean. Shipping Weight: about 1 pound, 6 ounces.
