Rare 2 Gallon Red Wing Minnesota Stoneware Crock Birch Leaves Bottom Marked
This is the first birch leaf Red Wing crock that I have seen that is also bottom marked. In the 3rd picture there is a dark"x" on the inside I'm not sure. But think it may be a hairline. There is also an"x" hairline on the outside as well, it is not in the same spot as the one on the inside. Also has a few chips around the base. Bottom Marked Minnesota Stoneware Co. Red Wing Crock with Shiny Glaze & Tie Ring
For your consideration is crock with a tie ring. This crock has a capacity of slightly more than one gallon. The tie ring is a groove around the top for a string or twine to hold in place a cloth. That is placed over the top, to shield the contents from whatever is in the atmosphere around it. This crock was manufactured by Minnesota Stoneware Co. This company was founded in Red Wing, Minnesota in 1883; in 1906 it merged with Red Wing Stoneware Co. to form Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. This crock has a shiny brown glaze that is almost black; which I assume was originally intended to be brown, but there was metallic elements in the clay or glaze that melted during a firing, causing the shiny, almost black appearance. The bottom marking, is probably the most distinct I have ever seen. This crock is slightly more than 6 3/4" tall and the ... morebottom is approximately 8" in diameter. This crock has glaze skips. On the rim is one very minor chip. On the bottom edge are nine minor to insignificant chips. On the rim, on the bottom edge and on the bottom are marks made with a marker. This auction is for an antique rustic brown stoneware crock marked J. Moran 1. We were unable to discover anything about the maker. This primitive crock stands about 7 inches high and is 4.25 inches in diameter at its base. Judging from the positioning of two chip marks on the side of the crock. It may have had a single bail handle at one time. Otherwise, the crock is solid and in good used condition, particularly given its age. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. For your consideration is a two gallon crock made by Buckeye Pottery. The debossed writing on the bottom says: BUCKEYE POTTERY CO. MACOMB ILL. This company was founded in 1882 and existed until 1941; the glaze on this crock indicates it was made in 1896 or later. The glaze is a dirty white and the 2 is blue. This crock has a tie ring. Meaning a cloth could be draped over the top and held in place by a string ran around the crock and held in place by this groove. The height is 9 1/4" and the bottom is 9" in diameter. On the top rim, is a small chip; this chip is directly above the 2. On the bottom edge, are 3-4 chips that are larger and some minor to insignificant imperfections; the largest chip is approximately one inch wide and approximately 3/4 of an inch tall. On the interior's bottom are some very tight hairlines that cannot ... morebe seen on the exterior. On the bottom's exterior is a very tight hairline that cannot be seen on the interior. But this piece is possibly 1800's Victorian Old English Two Tone Glazed Stoneware. This super-sturdy. THICK crock weighs approximately 4.5 pounds and features straight sides with a flared top. Gray salt glaze stoneware inside and out with ochre(tan) colored glaze over the gray on the top 3" of the rim and around the inside flared opening at the top. Crock stands 8½" high and measures ... more5½" in diameter at the base x 5" across from edge to edge at the flared opening. This great. Primitive crock is in fantastic condition. Other than what appears to be one small chip on the underside of the base rim, it is in superb condition with no other nicks, chips, cracks, crazing or other condition issues. See close-up photo of bottom. Piece is marked with an impressed'17' in the center of the foot within a circular indent that looks to be formed from alpha characters that I cannot make out. This company was organized on February 1, 1893 and began operations in the spring of 1894. This crock has a tie ring; meaning that a cloth could be placed over the top and there is a groove around the top in which a string can be placed and tied to hold the cloth, which protects the contents from whatever. This piece of stoneware is 6 1/8" tall and the bottom is almost 5 5/8" in diameter. On the rim, are some chips, most of which are insignificant; around the bottom edge are more minor to insignificant chips. There is one small round hole on the front of the crock. Which is about 1" in diameter, and one crack on the side which is about 6"s long, and one 3 1/2" crack at the top! None of these are all the way through. The overall size of this crock is: Base: 8 1/2" diameter, Height: 15" tall, 13" Inside Depth, Mouth 8" diameter, 21lb Weight by itself. Crock probably dates to the late 1800's. The top of this stoneware crock is marked, 2 J. Swank& Co. Johnstown, Pa. The 2 being the gallon size of this crock. The crock has nice fluted sides as well. There is one rather large chip on the back side top of the crock and one small one around the top rim. There are no cracks though and it is a strong, sturdy piece that weighs almost 10 lbs. An antique blue decorated stoneware crock which is stamped"1-1/2" gallon on the front. There is no maker's mark or stamp. The crock is approximately 6-3/8" tall and 9-7/8" wide across the top. The blue decoration is in a beautiful state of repair with virtually no wear. There is a large chip to the rim right of center on the side. Measuring nearly 2.25" in length. There is also a hairline on the back of the piece, which starts at the rim and extends about 4" downward. Does have a lid and there are two numbers on the lid 4 and 8. Not sure how old this butter churn is. It is in very good condition. There are several darker spots/colors on it. On the logo by the N, worn off. The band that is in between the colors on one side looks like it run. Tried to show as much as possible in picture, wear from age. This is a nice antique salt glazed bottom marked Red Wing 1 gallon stoneware crock. There are no cracks and only a few small chips on the top edge and one tiny chip on the bottom. The salt glaze is shiny and even and has a rich dark color. The bottom is clearly stamped Minnesota Stoneware Co Red Wing. There are two nice dark turkey droppings coming down from the top edge. The crock measures 8" H x 8" in diameter. It will be packed very well and insured during shipping.

Antique Salt Wall Crock. I purchased this crock at auction 15 years ago. It measures 5.5" tall by 5.5" in diameter. It is old and does have some light pitting and yellowing consistent with use. This is a working kitchen item and was used several times a day. See pics as I tried to show any issues- there is one chip by the bottom hole in the back. I got it that way. And you really don't see it when the lid is on. I made the lid. And it is very functional but not real pretty- does its job though. Ask questions. This piece is a larger stoneware crock that is marked with a large blue number 2 on the side. The small crock measures 9-1/2" tall and 9-1/4" in diameter. And it has a lip that protrudes around the top. There are no markings other than the number 2, and the 2 is just about 2" tall. This is a great vintage piece that has some wear and patina, it would make a great addition to your home décor and would make a great planter or vase for your home or garden! Condition: This is vintage and used with some wear. There ... moreare some small nicks in the stoneware surface. And some discoloration from age and use. The glaze is crazing in places, but there are no cracks in the stoneware that we could find. Bottom Marked Minnesota Stoneware Red Wing 3 Gal. Elephant Ear Crock w/ Blue
For your consideration is a three gallon crock made of stoneware with an elephant ear marking and an oval that is almost 2 1/2" from L to R. The writing(all markings and writing are in blue) in the oval says: UNION- STONEWARE CO. RED WING. MINN. The writing in the oval indicates this crock was manufactured before Red Wing Stoneware formally merged in 1906. The embossed writing on the bottom says: MINNESOTA STONEWARE CO. RED WING. I find the bottom marking crisper, cleaner and more readable than most bottom markings by this company. This crock has a height of almost 10 1/2" and the bottom is almost 10" in diameter. The rim has some minor chips; all but one are inside and that one is not on the outside. On the bottom edge are minor chips and cracks where it is possible that another chip could develop. In the bottom is a very ... moretight crow's foot hairline; of the three hairlines, the longest is less than 1 3/4" long. The elephant ear leaves and the oval were applied less than ideally, when this crock was manufactured. Please carefully examine the pictures; as the pictures are part of the description.

Antique 2 Gallon Red Wing Stoneware Bottom Marked Birch Leaf Elephant Ear Crock
This is a nice antique 2 gallon Red Wing stoneware crock with crisp. Bold cobalt markings including birch leaves and a union oval, and the bottom of the crock is clearly marked Minnesota Stoneware Co Red Wing. There is one hairline crack that forks up the side and wraps around the bottom edge, and comes up around the bottom edge in the front(very faint) but there are no other cracks and chips other than some tiny flakes in the glaze around the inner top edge(not noticeable unless very closely inspected; shown in the last photo) The crock is clean, the glaze is shiny, and it would display beautifully. It measures 9 3/4" W x 9 1/4" H. It will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Nice old stoneware(redware? crock in a glossy dark caramel brown glaze. One handle; no lid. Marked on bottom with an"S. Looks like it might hold 1 quart. This piece measures approx. 4.5" tall and 4" in diameter across the base. There are some significant bare spots in the glaze. Where the reddish colored base is exposed.
