Vintage Spirit Of '76 Cheese Butter Crock w/ Wire Closure Stoneware Drum Fife !
This is a unique cheese or butter crock. Picture 8 shows a chip in the lid. But it may have been during the manufacturing process. There are also some other imperfections from the making of this piece as you can see in photos. There are two very fine hairline cracks on this crock. Pictures 11 and 12 show these. The one in picture 11 hardly goes through. If at all. And, the one in picture 12 shows about half of the crack going all the way through to the inside. About 5 1/2" Tall to the top of the wire. Antique Vintage Weir Stoneware Brown Canning Crock with Wire closure
This is a Weir Canning Crock with a Patent March 1st 1892 as identified on the lid. It still has the original working wire closure but it is rusty. There are no noted chips or cracks. The inside is clean. With the vintage age there is some crazing on the cream colored area of the crock. I personally took this piece out of my grand mothers old farm house kitchen basement crawl space. It was sitting beside several old crocks and several large bolders(rocks) which were supporting the old house so I know they have been there for years. The house has been in the family for 100 years. As far as I can see there are no cracks only surface chips as I have tried to show in the photos. On the bottom edges there is some chipping off of the glaze. A very hard to find beautiful piece. The rubber seal is missing. A great addition to any collection. This auction is for a beautiful brown stoneware canning crock. It is in great shape with no cracks. It comes with what I believe is the original lid. The date on the lid is marked June 24 1884. It measures 6" tall and 5" wide. The only issue is that the bottom of the lid has a small chip in the bottom side. I almost didn't even notice it. It comes complete with the hanging wire.
