Exceptional quality. Small alkaline or salt glazed, primitive antique crock. 6 1/4 inches high, about 3 inch top diameter, about 4 1/4 inch bottom diameter. ... moreLooks to be just under 5 inches around(diameter) in the middle. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Please ask questions before bidding. Shipping to Lower 48 States only. No international sales. Payment due within 3 days of auction end. If you have a feedback score of 10 or less, you must contact me before bidding. In"as found" condition- this item is vintage, and not new. Photos are as important as my written description. Antique Stoneware: Fine 19thC. PA Redware Crock or Jar, Semi-Ovoid, Lead Glaze
Whether you call this a Cream Jar. Crock or Planter, one thing is for sure: this is a monumental 19thC. piece of Redware! Unmarked, but having a capacity of 4Gal. this extra-large Jar will be at home in any Antique Stoneware collection. This is a well-made piece by a highly skilled artisan; probably a Pennsylvania pottery, ca.1860 or earlier. The Semi-Ovoid form is topped with a slightly-squared lip profile. ANTIQUE ROYCROFT ART POTTERY LITTLE BROWN JUG ARTS CRAFTS OVOID STONEWARE CROCK!
I am selling my highly collectible ANTIQUE early's ROYCROFT SHOPS ARTS& CRAFTS ART POTTERY" LITTLE BROWN JUG" As I need to downsize some of my pottery collections. This darling"Little Brown Jug" stands 5" tall X 4" at the widest point of the jug body. The spout sits 7/8" above the body and the handle is large enough to put a fat finger through. The handle sits 1 1/4" out to the side. This little jug is heavy art pottery stoneware in the traditional Arts& Crafts manner with the typical satin matte glaze. The glaze is a rich coffee brown and there are several decorative"rings" under the glaze at the widest point in the body(see photos) This was made by the Roycroft Shops out of Aurora NY in the early 1900's. The jug is marked on the unglazed underside with the Roycroft" ... moreR" in a circle below the stylized cross. The impression of the stamp is not deep. But legible. The jug is in very good antique condition, it is almost 100 years old! There are no cracks, chips or repairs however the rich brown glaze does have a few little"glaze pops" here and there in the glaze only, not the clay. There are three small glaze pops that are the size of a large pin head and another a bit larger, about 1/8" in diameter. Most of these are in one area so the jug will display nicely. They are old glaze pops that are often found on art pottery, as this is the nature of the glaze. This is not considered damage as these"pops" usually occurred during firing and manufacture. The glazes are never smooth and there are usually little lumps and bumps under the glaze. These pops are tiny and well documented in my pictures. Roycroft shops art pottery is highly collectible and this is a nice size. This would look perfect with your other primitives. Mission setting or for display with dried straw flowers. I have a lot of Mission furniture and this is a nice accent piece. This is a thick, heavy little jug, thus the shipping cost. This is a great price as

ANTIQUE OVOID STONEWARE JAR, OPEN HANDLED, COGGLE MARKS, HAND PAINTED
ANTIQUE OVOID STONEWARE JAR. OPEN HANDLED, COGGLE MARKS, HAND PAINTED I am not a stoneware expert so I am just going to tell you what I see. I have had this piece in my personal collection for years and have not been able to identify it. Any experts out there are welcome and encouraged to comment on this piece. This is an interesting ovoid stoneware jar. It has no lid. It holds almost 1 gallon. It has a very nice coggle design under the hand painted design. I think this crock may be from the North East as the design is of a river running into the sea with the waves crashing on to the high cliffs. If it were from the south east you would think it would be less green and lower beach area. But this is only a guess. There are a few condition concerns, two hair lines emanating from the upper rim and some minor paint loss. There are a few glaze ... morepops near the lower rim. Early American REDWARE Stoneware Ovoid CROCK Jar Incised BEST Glaze RARE Handled
Lg. Early ANTIQUE REDWARE Stoneware OVOID CROCK Jar Jug Incised- RARE Handles This listing is for an early antique stoneware redware ovoid shape handled crock or storage jar with primitive. Out of round form. The handles on this crock are very unusual and rare. They look to be formed or pulled from the piece. Rather than applied as is commonly seen. The crock is indented, creating a recess behind each handle that allows for carrying. The handles are joined to the main body of the crock on each end. They have an arched shape that makes them easy and comfortable to hold on to. It seems to be an ingenious design. Yet I have not seen this type of handle before. And cannot find another example in any of the American stoneware pottery books. This utilitarian crock or jar was given some beautiful decorative touches with both incised and raised banding ... morearound the body of the piece. At the mouth. There is a rolled rim with two incised bands beneath. In the middle, at handle height, the crock has four raised bands that encircle it at the widest point. The glaze on this jar is stunning. With a wide range of color. There are shapes formed by the glaze that look almost like letters, perhaps a mark of some sort? Or maybe just a happy accident. I believe this piece is quite old. Dating to the early to mid 19 th century. Possibly even the late 18 th century. Though I don’t know the exact age. It measures approx. 12” tall and 12” across the widest point. The mouth is approx. 8-8 ½” across and the base measures 6 ¼” in diameter. The handles are approx. 3 ¼” long x ½” thick. The jar is in very good antique condition. It has appropriate wear for a utilitarian pottery piece of this age. The piece has no cracks or other structural damage. The lip of the crock shows a fair amount of age related wear. Most of the wear is superficial only. With a number of areas where the glaze has flaked or chipped off, but there are just a couple of shallow surface chips as well(please see pictures. The exterior body of the piece is

Antique Burger and Lang -Rochester NY-Salt Glazed Stoneware Ovoid Crock
This is a Burger and Lang ovoid crock.
Large antique 19th c blue decorated stoneware jug crock ovoid bees NY 16.25"
A large antique blue decorated ovoid stoneware jug with bee decoration which we believe dates to the 19th century. The handle is big and thick and doesn't look like it's ever been broken off or cracked. Lots of heavy patina in the area of the handle and the top. The crock measures approximately 16-1/4" tall. Condition issues include five surface chips. The largest of which is on the front, just left of center near the top and measures approximately 1-1/2" by 1-3/8" Other surface chips appear on the front bottom(about 1-1/4" in width and 3/4" in width) and on the back about mid-way down(1" and 1/2" There are also five smaller chips to the very bottom edge of the piece, the largest of which measures approximately 1-1/8" in width. It is difficult to see because of the dark color of the jug, but ... morehere is a tight hairline which begins at the top and extends downward about 3-1/4" There are also some small holes. most notably two toward the bottom left of center on the side. There are also a couple areas of heavy wear to the glaze, and the typical tiny glaze skips and other minor imperfections. The bottom of the jug is covered in green felt(therefore we cannot speak to any hairlines which may be on the bottom) and there is a cork in the top with the top broken off- we acquired it this way and have not tried to get it out. There is even something inside the crock- it sounds like a marble but we will never know! We do not know the maker or region of origin, but it seems like a New York piece to us. While it could be restored, the appeal of this piece is largely the sheer size, shape, and the blue decoration, which is in a very nice state of repair. The surface chips are noticeable, and other issues mentioned only for accuracy; this piece still displays very well and has lots of character! Please view the images for condition details. As they are part of the description and they are of the actual item you will receive. Shipping is FREE to the continental U.S. only(lower 4
Miniature Ovoid Stoneware Crock - 19th Century - Ohio
Miniature Ovoid Stoneware Crock- 19th Century- Ohio A wonderful early miniature salt glazed stoneware crock of ovoid form. With applied handles decorated in cobalt blue. Direct from a collector who originally purchased it from an Ohio bottle dealer. Who had acquired it at an Ohio farm auction. Included is the salt glazed stoneware cover lid that was with it at the farm sale. But I am certain that the lid is not original to the crock, even though it is of the same period. The cover lid's color does not match the crock, and I see no indication whatsoever that the crock ever was originally meant to have a lid. Nevertheless it will be included for you to perhaps match up with another piece down the road. The miniature crock is in perfect condition without any problems whatsoever. And is 3 5/16" high by 3 3/8" in diameter. The cover ... moreis 2 9/16" in diameter. Thanks for looking m1648-nodd Please pay for your winning bid within three days of the auction ending. Antique Sidney Risley Stoneware Ovoid Jar Made in Norwich Connecticut Mid 1800's
This is an antique Sidney Risley stoneware Jar made in Norwich Connecticut in the mid 1800's up for your consideration. Description- This Jar is about 10 inches tall and about 7.5 inches at its widest point. It weighs close to 5 pounds. It has a chip out of the outer rim. And another imperfection also on the outer rim that looks like it happened during the firing process. History- In the"Norwich Directory" of 1857 is the advertisement of"Sidney Risley. No. 4 Cove St. Manufacturer of Stone Ware in Every Variety. The Trade supplied with all kinds of Stone Ware, at the lowest market prices. Risley at first leased the property. But in 1856 purchased it and continued the business until his death on April 26, 1875, at the age of sixty-one years. His son. George L. Risley, then continued the works until his tragic death on the ... moreday before Christmas, 1881. He had gone to the pottery to light the fires under an upright boiler, which blew up, and, going through the roof of the building, landed in the cove about 120 feet away. It is said that the force of the explosion was so great that the 1500-pound boiler passed completely over a fifty-foot elm tree at the rear of the pottery. Mr. Risley was so badly injured that he died that evening. An account of the accident appeared in the"Scientific American"

This will ship for $35.00 more or less depending on your location. I accept all forms of payment.

Vintage Speckled Ovoid Crock Stoneware Tan Brown over 2 Quart Heavy 3.6 Pounds
This glazed stoneware crock came from an auction in Vermont. It has a wonderful tan speckled design. I'm not sure why there used to be a handle on the crock since there is not a spout. But the handle is completely broken off. There are chips on both the top and bottom rim, no cracks. There is some orange paint on the outside bottom around the base that seems may come off. The crock is heavy. It weighs 3 pounds, 6 ounces. It measures 9 1/4" high and about 7" in diameter at the widest point. It holds 10 cups. I do not have a lid.

Cobalt Decorated Stoneware Churn Crock Baltimore West Virginia Incised Ovoid
Beautiful stoneware churn with cobalt decoration. Double incised ring around top. Ovoid shape with two applied handles. I have checked all over for a stamp but cannot find a makers mark. Looks like a"7" stamped on side but may be a coincidence. Small stone pop and dent which occurred during firing. Other small imperfections around bottom as pictured. Measures 12 1/2" high. 6 1/2" across bottom, 6 3/4" across top, and approx. 27" around widest spot. I wish I could find out more about this churn. My guess is it is Baltimore or West Viriginia in origin.

Unique Wm. Hare Ovoid Stoneware Crock - Brattleboro, Vt. - A. J. Blair's Label
Tis very rare surviving Wm. Hare crock is a must have for the serious collector. Less than 10% of Wm. Hare crocks were made in the ovoid shape. This crock travelled to Brattleboro. Vt. and was used by A.L.s Blairs company from 1892- 1905 to pack all kinds of fruit and vegetable products. A.J. Blair's company in Brattleboro, Vt. went out of business in 1905. This ovoid crock could have been in us 20 years after Wm. Hare's business closed in 1885. This ovoid crock is 7" high, the base is 31/2" wide and the middle is 5 1/2 wide. There is a chip on the underside of the lip about 1/8" in length and there are two 1/4" shallow chips opposite each other on the base. I would love to keep this rare Wm. Hare crock, but have decided to let it go into a serious collector's hands where it belongs. My price indicates the ... morerarity of this ovoid Wm. Hare crock. On E-bay, the A. J. Blair labels are selling for $7.50 alone. See jelly company.com The shipping will be $15.00 for most locations. But if the shipping is less, I will immediately refund the difference to the buyer.
