Beautiful stoneware cake crock WITH lid. The cobalt is beautiful on this. 10 3/4" by 10 3/4" 6" tall This has had it's share of use and does have some issues. Chips. Some large, and a crack on one side going down onto the bottom of the crock and also running sideways off of it. See 4th pic. chips and thin tight cracks on lid. The lid was on this when I purchased this several years ago and I am assuming it is the original.it fits. Old metal wire band around crock apparently stabilizing it. Looks like its been on there a long time. LOOK at PICTURES! This is a utilitarian piece and it has been used! Cobalt design is very elaborate and beautiful! NOT MINT! Sold as used. As-is. This 19th century stoneware cake crock was made by the Whites Pottery of Utica. NY. It has an embossed hunting scene which goes completely around the crock and has 3 deer or stags on then lid as well. The crock measures 7 inches in diameter and is 5 1/4 inches to the top of the lid. It will display nicely. The cobalt is a rich deep blue with no fry to the glaze. The crock has only one very, very slight hairline to the right and above the kneeling hunter. see photo) There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a couple of slight shallow small chips to the top inside rim, chips to the rim of the lid's handle, a chip to the raised rim on the inside of the lid, and a tight old secure hairline or spider line on the base. The last two photos show both sides of one hairline crack that starts at the top and goes a few inches down. The two photos before that show an indent in the bottom that may be an old chip that has browned from age or may be from manufacturing. It is shallow and does not go through. This is the largest and best cobalt color on any crock I have owned. I absolutely am positive that there are no repairs. The interior looks like it has never been used. But the bottom edge is as smooth as a babys bottom from wear. It is probably from the Baltimore area. The diameter is 12' and it is 6' tall. This is an exceptional crock, not a chip any where. The mark under the handle.I believe is a capital I rather than a 1. It weighs 11 lbs. before packing. I will be adding insurance to the final value. I will pack it very well, but I don't want it to be damaged. So don't click pay until you get an invoice from me. Thanks for looking. Antique Salt Glaze Stoneware Blue and Gray Butter(Cake) Crock with Lid Hunter and Deer Scene in Relief by White's Utica N.Y. 7 Inches Diameter x 5 Inches High ca. 1870-1890(This antique butter(cake) crock by White's Utica dates from the mid to late 1800s. And is in very good condition. There is a very tight intermittent hairline on the inside of the crock. It does not carry all the way through to the outside and may have neen in the making. It is not uncommon for stoneware of this age and type to be sold by the maker with hairlines. Chips, etc. On the outside. Only a half-inch very tight hairline can be detected at the rim. Above this. There are two small dimples or inperfections which are glazed over and in the making. When tapped. T he crock rings solidly. So I don't believe the inside hairline comes through. There is also a ... morevery small. Shallow flake on the outside rim which is difficult to detect. As with stoneware of this age and type. There are some imperfections of the glaze in the making. Antique Stoneware Cake Crock w/ Original Lid - Cobalt Blue Decoration
We are very pleased to offer an antique stoneware cake crock. With the original matching lid, a shaped rim, slightly concave sides and two semi-circular applied handles, It's wheel-thrown, with an exterior salt glaze and interior pale brown slip. The crock and lid are both decorated with a cobalt blue floral and leaf pattern encircling the perimeters, and scoring around the rim of the pot itself. These crocks were used for storage of cakes and other perishable foods, and were always sold with a matching lid. Very few existing cake pots still have these matching lids. The crock measures 5" tall by 8-1/4" in diameter. The crock itself is in good, as-found condition with a chip on the bottom rim, a shallow spider crack on the bottom(see photos) and otherwise minor surface wear. UP FOR AUCTION IS ONE BLUE AND TAN CAKE? CROCK WITH LID. HAS A DIAMETER OF 7 3/4" 4 1/2" TALL. IT APPEARS TO HAVE HAD A BALE HANDLE AT ONE TIME. HAS HOLES FOR THIS ON EACH SIDE. IT IS NOT WITHOUT FLAWS. AT FIRST GLANCE IT LOOKS TO HAVE A CRACK ON THE OUTSIDE. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS A CRACK I THINK IT IS A FLAW IN FIRING OR THE PAINT. IT DOES NOT GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
