Vintage 10" tall wide neck stoneware thermos crock jar/jug liner.
Up for auction is a vintage wide neck stoneware pottery thermos crock jar/jug liner. Has quite a few larg chips that are shown in the pictures. Measures 10" x 7" x 3 1/2" No maker's mark. The outside has a flat unglazed surface and the inside has a glazed surface. I have no idea as to the age of this jar. I don't see any surface cracks. I don't have any idea what the thermos may have looked like or been made of. A helpful ebayer gave me the thermos info. Please email me with any questions you might have. WHAT A CROCK OF. Gooseberry Preserves. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. It is in sound fine condition with no damage, no chips, no hairlines. nothing beyond the the usual firing scratch in the making or tiny rough clay blob on rim glazed over. I know this is English having travelled to the UK buying fields myself seeing these on offer occasionally, and this lovely example was deacessioned last week from a retired English Dealer in Gettysburg, PA who purchased it

This one is crack and damage repair free, but does show some bottom edge chippers in pics# 10& 12. Number 11 shows a factory clay dimple. Always allow for stoneware glaze skips. And glaze runs which are possible. This one does have a noticeable skip by the"5" Piece rings very well. The block letters are unique also as this changed shortly after this period also. This is an early big 6 gallon crock from Ohio. OH) It's ovoid form tells you it probably mid-1800s. This big pot is in great condition with just one little tiny line near the lower side that is more of an age line than a knock or drop line. The crock is solid and rings true and would be beautiful beside your fireplace with your other primitives or pottery. It's heavy thick wall pottery. The 6 is incised on the front. more pictures below description* This large pot is a bit of a mystery. I believe it is oriental or middle eastern. It has a Naga, serpent or dragon on it. It is 16" tall, 17" across top and 11.25" across the bottom. It weighs 37 pounds- it's big& heavy! There are indications that say this might be handmade, like how the glaze does not entirely cover all areas, especially on the outside near the bottom and some other glaze flaws. Also, the brown drip marks present around the outside top. There are many abrasions and marks but still displays well. I'm not sure of it's age or origin or exactly what it's made of-its like a stoneware material. Could be used as a place for your canes and umbrellas, flower pot, etc. Selling as is. GREAT ITEM. Rare stamped 2 gallon"Riedinger& Caire Poughkeepsie. NY" stoneware bird crock. This is from about 1855. The body of the crock is near perfect but it has 4 rim chips of various sizes with a tiny bit of rub on the lug handles. This storage jar has a thick heavy salt glaze. You don't find them like this very often with a beautiful cobalt blue bird setting on a branch.so the chips don't hurt it much. The crock is 11" tall.28" around and 8 1/4" on the base. Here we have a Vintage 10" Tall Lidded Glazed Stoneware Preserves Fruit Jar. The color in photos is accurate. Someone painted some yellow flowers on it but it could be removed in wanted. The lid fits securely with a little rocking but ok. There is wear here and there and a small chip on the bottom edge. As shown. Measures 7-1/2" in diameter(handle to handle) It's fairly clean inside. This vintage piece is 6-3/4" tall x 4-5/8" across the top x 4-5/8" across the bottom. The unglazed top rim is worn and scaling. The inside bottom glaze is gone and some flaking as well as the bottom wear. There are some glaze pops and although there is a crack in the bottom glaze is not showing inside. This is an exquisite antique 19th century handmade salt glazed stoneware bean pot. it is completely handmade with nice detailing and has a beautiful hand applied handle. there is a high gloss thick brown salt glaze finish. it has a nice shape and has acquired a lovely patina from age. It has a recessed edge inside the rim to avoid spilling over. it is in very nice antique condition and measures 7 1/2 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches tall. Nice little crock/ jug with two finger hole handles which are NOT BROKEN OFF. GLENMORE is the title name on the jug with a lot of additional writing in script form. Small graphic of a man in the small oval. It is about eight inches tall and four inches across. It would have had a cork in the top. Which is not there now.
