Old Antique Primitive Canning Crock Jar Stoneware Salt Glaze Crazing
HELLO and thanks for looking at our auction! Today we have an old antique crock that we think may have been a canning crock many years ago. It looks like a date on the bottom but we can't quite make it out but we have taken pictures of it. It has lots of flaws and chips around the top and lots of staining and crazing. There is also a hairline crack in the top and we have tried to show it in the pictures. This old crock measures 6 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" across the bottom and 4 1/4" across the top. The rim is 1/2" thick around the top and it is very heavy. It weighs 3 1/2 pounds. It is missing the bale but the holes for the bale are still intact. It is also missing the lid. This old Crock is still very pretty even with all the chips. Stains and flaws. It has lots of crazing all over the outside and inside, and would look ... moregood with the old primitives collection. There is a small chip on the lid as puctured, it is very small. 6 3/4 inches tall and 4 inches wide. The jar has a clamp that closes it and a gasket between the lid and jar. Antique William Hare Fruit Canning Crock Jar Wilmington DE 1850s to 1880s Note: All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Here is a great antique stoneware crock/jug for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. This piece was probably made in the mid to latter 1800s period. The crock/jug was made by Wm. Hare of Wilmington. DE. William Hare had come up with a new way of doing fruit canning with his jars. Look online and you will see interesting advertising that this fellow did back then to sell his wares. The jug has no handles and is most likely of a half gallon size. I do not see or hear(when thump it) any indication of major cracks in the jug. There is a chip on the outside lip of the jug opening just above the place opposite where the name ... moreof the jug maker is impressed into the jug. I can see a hairline crack that runs about 2" on the bottom of the crock and continues about 2" up the side of the crock. Various wear and stain marks over the jug surface. Clear impression of the Wm. Hare name on the crock. Same with Wilmington DE. But the WI did not take. Nice piece to add to one's collection as he is the only known potter in Wilmington during this time period that signed his work. The jug is 8-5/8" tall. By 5.5" across. The opening is 2-3/8" across on the inside and 3.75" on the outside. I would guess that this jug is a one gallon size. But you be the judge. Wm. Hare Stonewear Crock with incised name at top. Wilmington. Delaware circa 1850- 1870 1814- 1885 The only Wilmington potter known to have signed his work. This crock is approximately a 1/2 gallon size. Measures almost 9 inches tall and 3.5 inches across the rim on the outer border. With a 2.25 inch opening. This is a"second" with a slumped side and has been broken and repaired and is missing one small triangular piece in the repair. Rim has large chips. Please see photos and email with any questions. Hare’ s was a long-lived enterprise(1839-1885) relative to the common nineteenth century pattern of shops closing or changing ownership every few years. Antique vinage Weir 1901 stoneware pottery fruit jar canning crock lid latch
A vintage stoneware fruit canning jar/crock with lid and metal latch. It measures just shy of 8" tall. There is a chip on the outer rim of the lid of about one half inch in width. And another of about 1/4" in width on the lid on the opposite side of the first chip. please see photos) There is also a small chip on the bottom edge of the jar measuring about 1/4" in width. There are some chips on the underside of the lid(not visible when the jar is assembled) The metal hinge is in good working order. The chips are small and mentioned only to be thorough; this jar displays very well. No hairlines or cracks. There are some minor imperfections such as crazing and skips in the glaze, some of which we are unclear on whether they are manufacturing flaws or occurred later. This is a true antique canning/food storage jar made by the C. HERMANN COMPANY of Milwaukee(1856-1886) Actual exact date of this piece is unknown due to lack of information on the production from this company. This crock was painted gold at one point by a previous owner. paint stripper does not harm the jar and I used it to strip the paint off until I could find a side stamp into the clay. Identifying it as a C. HERMANN CO. MILWAUKEE item. After using this item to store long handled kitchen utensils for a few years I no longer have the space for it so it needs a new home. The jar itself is 6 inches tall. There is a makers stamp on bottom, but it is blurry. The spot you see on one of the photos is a drip/ run from when it was made.

This is na great. Antique, Weir(Western Stoneware) canning crock. The lid says"The Weir Patented April 1 18? and on the side if the crock at the bottom is impressed Pat. Feb.11, 1889. It is in very good condition. There are a few, thin age cracks on the lid, please see pictures, and the wire bail is gone. Other than that it is very good condition for its age. A nice early canning crock to add to your collection.

Antique Vintage Glazed 1/2 gallon Stoneware Crock Canning Fruit Jar wax seal Up for bid is a very nice antique 1880's era crock made out of stoneware for canning fruit. Preserves, and such prior to the introduction of glass mason jars. There is no marking of the maker or the exact year it was produced. Wax is used to seal these jars. This particular crock was not made with a bale and lid. It measures approximately 5" wide at base and 9" tall. The opening measures 3" wide. This wonderful piece is in normal condition for age with a small chip on bottom edge and has few minor scratches. Scuffs, and surface cracks. The inner glaze remains intact with no concerns. 800x600 We are offering a very nice antique salt glaze stoneware crock with cobalt blue decoration in a hard to find size. It measures approximately 7 ¼” tall with a 4 ½” diameter. The crock does have old rim chips: One approximately ½” Two about ¼” each Tiny nicks to small to measure or see in a picture. The yellow area is in the glaze. The bottom has a few rough spots but no chips. The body has several glaze bubbles and manufacturer’s imperfections that are normal for stoneware of this age. Brown Stoneware Canning Crock Storage Jar Primitive Rustic Farmhouse Vintage
We believe this larger size stoneware crock was made as a canning or storage jar. It has a raised lip at the opening to accommodate a lid of some sort. The glaze is a slightly reddish dark brown but it seems to have some darker– maybe green– streaks either under or over the brown. They show up better in the photos than to the naked eye. The interior surface has distinct horizontal ribs. Possibly indicating that this crock was made by the coiling technique. This crock is about 11” high and the top opening is about 2 ½” across. It measures about 6” across at the base. It appears to have a volume of about one gallon. It is in fairly good vintage condition. It has several minor chips and at the top opening and at the rim of the base. But we don’t detect any cracks.
