This is an Antique A.P. Donaghho Stoneware Canning Crock. It has a couple of pretty good cracks in it so you won't be able to make your favorite sauerkraut recipe with it but it will make an incredible display and addition to your collection. About 1/3 of the top lip is damaged also so please be sure to inspect each picture carefully for the current condition of this item. The lettering is a little lighter than most but legible and has no worn spots or peeling. It measures 9 3/4" tall x 4 3/4' in diameter at the top x 6" in diameter at the base. Thanks for looking! Very Handsome and is in Very Good Condition with 1 tight hairline! It stands 18" tall and measures 9" across the top opening and 9 1/2" across the bottom. The cobalt blue Stencil decorations covers most of the front with a large number"5" at the top and the Zipper decorations across the middle and reads, A. P. Donaghho- Parkersburg, W. Va" across the bottom. The hairline crack runs about 7" from the top rim- down. Over the years, someone has put the coated rubber wire around the crock when the Crock was moved from W. Va. to Ohio. This was done as a precautionary measure. This is a Very solid Crock but I will leave the wire on to help ensure safe transport. It has a capacity of 2 gallons as indicated by the 2 below the name. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks except I see a hairline on the lower rear but cannot feel it and cannot certainly cannot see anything coming through the interior(See pic) There are a couple of spots of discoloration to the outer surface which can be seen in the pictures provided. Antique A P Donaghho Stoneware Crock This fine early stoneware crock is marked A P Donaghho Parkersburg WV. The bold/ crisp cobalt blue letters jump off the light gray stoneware body. It is about 9 1/2" tall and is in very good to excellent condition. A light brown spot on the bottom front(no chip or surface damage) and a very shallow flake along the top inner edge where I believe the wag seal wood set is the only noticable defects. It is otherwise free of chips/ repairs. The shallow falke as noted is an old flake and not readily noticable. see photos to fully appreciate form. Detail work and condition. Antique Stoneware Crock A. P. Donaghho Parkersburg WV West Virfginia
A. P. DONAGHHO Stoneware maker Alexander Polk Donaghho moved to Parkersburg. West Virginia, from Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, in 1870, and built his kiln at what became known as Pottery Junction because of the area's deposits of clay. Pottery Junction is now the intersection of Murdoch and Emerson Avenues, just below Terrapin Park. His factory closed around 1903 or'04. This stoneware jar, which is in excellent condition, is typical of the storage jars he made meant to be sealed with wax- the incised lines on the top were part of the sealing system. The jar stands about 10 1/2" tall and measures about 6" in diameter. I see no cracks or chips on this lovely salt-glazed piece. The front is marked in cobalt with the maker's name and town. The precious own put the pads on the bottom to protect furniture. In 1926 apparently, ... morethe crock was given to or bought by someone who painted on the bottom. It looks as if it were a Volunteer Fire Department? EMVF? Don't know about that, but the pot was clearly made before 1 903 and probably around 1880. A great piece of Americana. Two Antique stoneware crocks A P Donaghho Parkersburg Wv.
Up for auction. Are 2 canning jars, the smaller jar has no cracks, a couple very small chips, has some green paint around the top, and some of the original wax seal around the rim also. Very, very cool. I believe that is why they never removed the paint, do to the wax) the second jar is larger, and has some roughness around upper inner rim, no cracks, a few very small chips, a glazing flaw, that you can see in pics. Must of gotten to hot in kiln. Both jars are in beautiful shape, and has some factory flaws and bless. Normal ware and tear. Factory flaws, blemishes& flakes* If there are any questions. Please ask!
