The Cowden family made pottery under a number of business names in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania, from 1861 to 1923. The Cowden& Wilcox portion of this history operated from 1870 to 1881. During this period the pottery was directed by John W. Cowden and Isaac J. Wilcox. Cowden, who died in 1872, was succeded by his son Frederick and Wilcox. The firm was known for its blue decorated salt glazed utility ware such as churns, crocks, jugs, pails and the like. An impressed company mark was used and cobalt blue decorative motifs included florals and foliage, birds, figures and other devices. Slip trail decorated wares ... morewere also made in smaller quantities. Frederick Cowden continued the business after 1881(until 1888) as F. H. Cowden. He introduced more pieces with straight shapes and stenciled decoration.Internet Antique Gazzette. Buyer Pays Shipping. Texas Residents Add 8.25% Sales Tax Or Provide A Resale Certificate. Cowden and Wilcox Harrisburg Pa. decorated stoneware jar, 2 gallon
Wonderful 2 gallon jar from Cowden& Wilcox from Harrisburg Pa. Stands 11 1/2" tall by about 8 1/4" across the base. Great dark blue cobalt decoration with double flowers on the front and accents of blue on the handles. One rim chip as shown and about a four inch tight line up the front and about an inch and a half across the bottom. One tiny under glazed chip on the one handle. Someone has written what appears to be an inventory number on the base probably out of someones collection at one time. Has what appears to be a few spots of super glue on the inside crack to apperently stablelize it at one time. Great for that Cowden collection. Very solid and sound. Displays wonderfully. 18$ shipping and fully insured.

SMALL MARKED COWDEN AND WILCOX STONEWARE CROCK MISSHAPENED 1/2 GALLON MINT !!
Here is a small. About a half gallon, old COWDEN& WILCOX STONEWARE CROCK. It isn't decorated at all, measuring just 7 inches in height, 4 1/2 inches across the top, and 5 inches the base. It is in MINT CONDITION, unless the fact that it is a bit misshapen at the top hurts the appearance. I, personally, think that is its best feature. Nice old jar. Buyer pays $15.00 domestic shipping and handling. International S&H will be more.
