Williams and Reppert GREENSBORO PA Stoneware Crock 2 Gallon 12" Tall, Cracked
ANTIQUE.WILLIAMS AND REPPERT.GREENSBORO PA.STONEWARE CROCK.2 GALLON.12" TALL THIS LISTING IS FOR AN ANTIQUE STONEWARE CROCK. IT IS VERY OLD. BUT I DO NOT KNOW IT'S AGE. THE CROCK HAS A 2 ON THE FRONT. I ASSUME THAT MEANS IT IS 2 GALLONS. IT IS PRINTED IN A BEAUTIFUL COBALT BLUE COLOR. THE PRINT ON THE FRONT SAYS: WILLIAMS AND REPPERT.GREENSBORO PA.2 Condition: This crock has a large crack on one side that goes all the way down and across the bottom. Someone has filled the crack with some type of epoxy. Or rubber cement. There is a smaller crack on the other side that goes half way down the side. Even with this large crack, it still seems very strong and sturdy. I put water in the crock, and it will not hold it, it just drips out. It has several smaller hairline cracks on bottom. The large crack is in the back so it would be hard ... moreto see, if it was for decorating purposes) I guess it would still be a beautiful conversation piece, great for any rustic decor or for holding dried flowers! I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have. Please ask questions PRIOR TO PURCHASING. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!
T.F. REPPERT Greensboro PA Antique Stoneware Crock Jar Grey Blue 2 Gallon Plow
T.F. Reppert antique stoneware crock from Greensboro PA. Sadly this one is broken. It was shipped to my father and didn't survive the trip. He is thinning out his collection beginning with the broken ones. This was broken into pieces and glue repaired. I'm sure a professional repair job could be possible. But this feels pretty sturdy as is. It would not hold water but still displays well. It's a beautiful piece of history that can't be replaced and shouldn't just be thrown away because it's broken. So, in it's AS IS state, with this low starting price I would say this would be a great piece to bulk up a growing or new collection, or for shelf display. Low starting price for a piece that would be worth over $200 in mint condition. This is a 2 gallon crock that measures 7.25" across the top, 12" tall, and ... more7.5" across the bottom. It has a blue band at the top and at the bottom. One squiggly line near top. It says T F Reppert, Greensboro PA, features a plow design in the center and has a number 2 with arrows on each side. I've tried to photograph this in as much detail as possible, so please see pics for exact condition. I will bubble wrap, double box, paper shred or peanut this to make it as safe for shipping as possible. Please ask any questions before bidding, Thank you for looking! Antique Hamilton & Jones Greensboro Pa 1 gal Crock Stoneware Decorated 19thC VTG
Up for auction is this 1 gallon stoneware crock made by Hamilton& Jones Greensboro Pennsylvania in the mid to late 1800s. It is a putty color stoneware with a clean rich color inside. It is 9 1/2 inches tall. 5 3/4 inches across the top and 6 1/4 inches across the bottom. There is a slight hairline that starts at the rim and is hard to see, starts at top and is 2 1/2 inches long and is inside also. The other is what appears to be a glaze stress line on the back of the crock. As I have tried to show you in last two pics, this hairline or stress fracture starts 2- 3 inches from the top and spiders down like a lightening bolt, as you can see in last two photos, it is not inside the crock. It does reach to approx 2 inches from the bottom of the crock near where there is a chunk chip out of the bottom. Overall this crock is a great piece. ... moreThese imperfections are not noticable. I didn't even see what Im calling a stress fracture to the glaze until just now. I list all imperfections because I want you to know what you are getting. ANTIQUE CROCK JAMES B. HAMILTON GREENSBORO PA. 1871 REDWARE ROOF TILE
THIS IS A GREAT PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY- IT IS A JAMES B. HAMILTON. GREENSBORO, PA. REDWARE OR EARTHENWARE ROOF TILE STAMPED JBH 1871 THERE IS ONE EXACTLY LIKE IT YOU CAN SEE ON THE WINTERTHUR MUSEUM WEBSITE. IT IS MUSEUM# 1967.0205.001 HERE IS ALSO AN EXCERPT FROM THE GREENSBORO HISTORY SITE: Albert Gallatin. A partner in the Albert Gallatin Company, purchased lots in Greensburgh in 1795. On a trip to Washinton, D.C. he met a group of German glass blowers who were heading to Kentucky to form their own company. He urged them to consider settling in Greensburgh. The group settled in New Geneva in 1790 and the plant operated there until 1805 when it moved to the northern section of Greensburgh, later called Old Glassworks. By 1807 the quality of Glassworks Glass was recognized as superior throughout the country. Old Glassworks did a booming ... morebusiness and prosperity filled the streets of Greensburgh. Albert Gallatin sold his interest in the glass factory to the Kramers. Who operated it until 1849. Although the Glassworks Glass Factory closed in 1849. By 1859 the town, now known as Greensboro, was flourishing with 500 inhabitants. Much of the success of the town was due to river trade and travel and other industries such as the pottery business and the Tile Manufacturing Company which produced roof tile. Souvenirs of both industries are still treasured by many residents in the form of Greensboro Crocks and roof tile with the inscription JBH-Patent 1871. THIS TILE IS IN GREAT CONDITION. WITH ONLY MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE. THE LAST 2 PICTURES WHERE IT LOOKS DARKER IS JUST WHERE IT IS STILL WET FROM WHERE I CLEANED IT. I HAVE 6 OF THESE- HOWEVER THIS AUCTION IS ONLY FOR 1- IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER AND WANT MORE THAN 1 OR ALL 6 I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO TRY TO WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH YOU. IF YOU ARE A CROCK COLLECTOR. YOU NEED AT LEAST 1 OF THESE TO DISPLAY WITH YOUR COLLECTION! THANKS FOR LOOKING!

We found this information about the Hamilton companies from Greensboro on Wikipedia: Early on in the town’s history. Pottery became an important part of Greensboro’s economic base, with the first operation owned and operated by Alexander Vance. Vance settled in Greensboro in the early 19th century, while still very young, and began a small pottery trade operation with his brother James. The stoneware was unique in that it was manufactured from local red clay and thus had a very distinctive coloring. The ... moreVances eventually began to expand their operations. Bringing in David Boughner, who took over the business in 1819 when the Vances left for Ohio. Boughner was the first operator to fire the stoneware in a salt kiln. Although Boughner’s operation may have been among the earliest and most advanced stoneware operation in the area. It was by no means the only one. James and William“Leet” Hamilton arrived from New Brighton, Pennsylvania, in 1850 and started a pottery manufacturing company of their own. The remains of their endeavors, which operated under the name James Hamilton and Company, can still be found along Water Street. The original James Hamilton and Company did not last long. However, and in 1866 was sold to Leet’s son Frank and a son-in-law named John Jones. Together Frank Hamilton and Jones expanded the business and began selling their wares on a grander scale. With this information. You can see that this crock dates to before 1866 when the company was sold. Wow! Amazing! This little crock is a hard-to-find size crock. Western PA "T. F. Reppert" 1 Gallon "Successor" Churn from Greensboro, PA
This is an unusual western Pennsylvania 1 gallon churn. Notice how the"T. F. letters are a larger size than the letters in the"Reppert" name. What happened here is that this churn was manufactured in 1884 shortly after T. F. Reppert bought out his partner W. T. Williams. Instead of Reppert creating his own new stencil. He used the old"Williams& Reppert" stencil and cut out the"Williams" name from it. He then created a new stencil to insert"T. F. in front of the Reppert name. Why the letters were larger I don't know- perhaps he was in a hurry and had to do something quickly- or, he delegated it to one of his workers to remove"Williams" since it was now solely his company. It's obvious that the larger"T. F. was an"add-on" which makes this one of the very first pieces ... moreof stoneware that Reppert produced after buying out Williams. This really is a nice piece of stoneware history which reflects the buyout of Williams by Reppert in 1884. This churn is approx. 9.5" tall and 6.5" in diameter. It does have a 7/8" by 1/2" chip on the bottom edge(see pictures) A few minor nibbles on the inner rim, no cracks, and no repairs. Nice cobalt blue color. This is a great opportunity for all of you collectors to add a unique conversation piece to your collection. Money back if I inadvertently misrepresent the condition of the stoneware. Buyers pays return postage and churn must arrive in the same condition as when I shipped it. I pack carefully to insure crock arrives safely and I provide insurance. No reserve for this item.
