This auction offers a wonderful antique stoneware crock with a bail wire handle and it's original lid. Overall the crock is in great conditon for it;s age. There are some flaws such as a small chip on the top rim of the crock. And inner rim of the lid. Ware along the top rim of the lid and handle. A small crack on the side of the crock. Antique stoneware bail handle butter crock with lid ND1535
Great old covered butter crock with bail handle. This crock measures 7 3/4" in diameter and 5 3/4" in height to the top of the lid. It is made of a yellow clay with a blue/gray salt glaze textured body and raised blue floral design. The number 3 is embossed in the rim of the base just above the floral design(see photo#2) It is in fine condition having no chips or cracks in base or lid. There is some staining inside the crock but the outside is clean. The lid is embossed with a six-point Star of David. ND1535 13K98 If you purchase this item. Please wait for an invoice before paying. Offered for sale is a cute and functional very old ovenproof clay crock/bowl with a bail handle that we believe dates to the later 1800s. The unglazed exterior is a yellow color. With the band having a bit of an attractive rust colored patina. The interior is highly glazed and a rich dark brown. This was part of the Lockwood Estate up the road from us and has been in my home for over 50 years. I have used it in the oven. But not on the stovetop, since I do not have a gas stove. The wire handle is very handy for carrying and this makes a very nice bowl for warming rolls. Etc. for a casual dinner. Of course it also makes a nice display. Antique Large Stoneware Crock with Wire and Wood Bail Handle - Pat Feb. 11, 1896
Description: This is a stoneware crock with bale and wood handle. The crock has the holes for the wire hanger fired into the stoneware. There was one of these that was smaller that sold recently on eBay that had the same patent date but was only about 2/3 the size of this crock. It measures 9" across x 9 1/4" high and it is 6 1/2" across at the top. There are no markings except for the" Patented Feb 11. 1896" fired into the lower part of one side. It is in good condition for this old crock with the normal firing flaws. It has some crazing on the outside but it is noticeable only at close examination. On the inside it looks like a couple of lines but they do not show up on the outside so I think none of these are cracks and comes from firing as you can see in my pictures. I am not any kind of an expert so I do not know if this is common for old stoneware but I do know that it makes that solid ringing sound when I rap my knuckle on it. And is 9 1/2" tall to the top of the crock. As you can see from the photos, there is a chip around the outside edge of the lip, and the wire bail is bent. Unglazed bottom. Recessed lid with integral knob. Wire bail with center black wood handle. Measures 9" tall with a 9-1/2" diameter at its widest. Most likely used for cream or milk. Or as a kitchen pail. Condition: Very good given its age. The crock is sound with no cracks or breaks-gives a nice bell sound when tapped. There is some crazing inside and some shallow chips on the top rim and on the sides. But nothing that detracts from the beauty of the piece. The wire bail and wooden handle are original to the crock. Roughly measures out to be just under 1-1/2 gallons(6-quarts) No manufacture's marks of any kind. Family providence tells me this crock was made in the late 1890's to 1920's. Measurements: 9" tall x base diameter 9" x top diameter hole 5-1/2" This crock has some fine overall crazing(inside and outside) But overall it is in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. What a great decorator piece for the kitchen or any room of your house. Use it to hold flowers. Kitchen utensils, magazines, newspapers. the possibilities are endless. Vintage Stoneware Pottery Jelly Crock w/ Bail Handle & Partial Paper Label
This auction is for an antique jelly crock with a partial paper label still attached. It is faded and hard to read so I don't know what brand it is. The cover has been broken and glued back together. But the crock is in good condition with a small hairline crack, but no chips. It measures about 6 1/2" tall and about 5 1/2" in diameter at the bottom. Still displays well! Low minimum bid!
