I was told it was designed that way because there is suppose to be a wax seal placed between? The lip of the pot did have a very sticky substance on it that I cleaned off for selling purposes. No dominate maker marks, but inside could be a"1" There is crazing. No hairline cracks noted, lots of imperfections on the side which is normal, there is a ring on the underside and what appears to be some metal flaking. A small green spot is on the rim. Vintage 2 gal.stone ware crock / jug with brass faucet ICE WATER
Estate sale find. 2 gallon stone ware ICE WATER crock. This was very dirty when found. I took the faucet out and thoroughly washed it with dish detergent. It came out beautiful. I believe the original washers were leather and sealed with pine pitch. That is gone(outside original washer included) I put a rubber bushing and two new hose washers on but is not water tight. The glazing on the inside is a little rough and only hand tighten the faucet on.It leaked. The faucet holds but the glazing is too rough. Aquarium sealant or pine pitch would fix that. The bottom looks cracked but no cracks appear on the inside. No maker marks. Could be a factory second. See pictures and ask questions. I"ve been a picker for over 50 years.

Crock is a med to small size about the size of a jumbo pickle jar and very heavy. I bought this at a local flea market. Washed it, and shined it up. It may still need extra cleaning. Perfect for decor any home, add to any collection, or used to hold dry goods. Crock is about 6 inches tall and about 4 inches tall. I thought it was special since it still had a lid. Flea bites, paint on the top ridge, there is a hairline crack that is 6" long on the outside and approximately 3" long on the inside. The top of the hairline crack is more noticeable than the bottom part. no other damage noted. Other than normal wear, the crock has been gently cleaned. I accept returns with prior authorization. 1800's Primitive Salt Glaze Stone Ware Canning Crock Wax Seal Yellow ware
This is a very old wax sealed crock from the 1800's. It has a great primitive look and is good condition.But has two fleabites on sides, see pics. It's nice especially considering its very old. These were used for sealing and preserving food before glass mason type jars. Think how much healthier they were back before all those plastics.
