Old Antique Primitive Canning Crock Jar Stoneware Salt Glaze Crazing
HELLO and thanks for looking at our auction! Today we have an old antique crock that we think may have been a canning crock many years ago. It looks like a date on the bottom but we can't quite make it out but we have taken pictures of it. It has lots of flaws and chips around the top and lots of staining and crazing. There is also a hairline crack in the top and we have tried to show it in the pictures. This old crock measures 6 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" across the bottom and 4 1/4" across the top. The rim is 1/2" thick around the top and it is very heavy. It weighs 3 1/2 pounds. It is missing the bale but the holes for the bale are still intact. It is also missing the lid. This old Crock is still very pretty even with all the chips. Stains and flaws. It has lots of crazing all over the outside and inside, and would look ... moregood with the old primitives collection. Have a Marvelous Day and Very Happy Memories. Please email us with any questions that you have and THANKS for looking at our items! Many Items we sell are Old, Vintage, and Used. Vintage Antique Stoneware Canning Crock w / Lid Handpainted Pottery Estate Fine
Vintage Antique Stoneware Canning Crock w/ Lid Handpainted Pottery Estate Fine This is a from an old estate sale. It is almost 9.5" tall. 5 3/4" acrossed the opening, andabout 7" acoss bottom, I would say this would hold over a gallon, There are no cracks to this crocks sounds great, There is some chipping to the bottom and the underside of the lid, If I am correct these crocks were used for storeing meat, you would fry it and place it in the crock and pour fat drippings over the meat and store in a cool place, you could then pull back some of the fat and get your meat out, then put the fat back on this would keep for a good spell. If you have any question please ask, please refer to pictures, Thank you for looking.

Antique Vintage Weir Stoneware Brown Canning Crock with Wire closure
This is a Weir Canning Crock with a Patent March 1st 1892 as identified on the lid. It still has the original working wire closure but it is rusty. There are no noted chips or cracks. The inside is clean. With the vintage age there is some crazing on the cream colored area of the crock. I personally took this piece out of my grand mothers old farm house kitchen basement crawl space. It was sitting beside several old crocks and several large bolders(rocks) which were supporting the old house so I know they have been there for years. The house has been in the family for 100 years. Measure 8" tall with 4 1/4" diameter. This would be a Great Addition to your Vintage Collectibles. I will combine shipping on all items but email me that you are bidding on other items as I do ship quickly once payment is received(within 3 days of purchase) ... moreThanks for taking a look! 1800s Gray Saltglazed Stoneware Canning Crock - AS IS but grt colors & usable
This is a salt-glazed crock from the first half of the 1800s and more than likely made down around the Carolinas as this is where that old gray clay was most prevalent. It is a canning crock designed with the ridge where they put the hot sealing wax and then pressed a metal piece or fabrics into that to seal it and keep out bugs. It has that wonderful leathery texture that the glazes assumed in the firing when salt was thrown on them to create that lustre and to seal the finish. This one is 9" tall. 5 1/2" across the bottom and 4 1/2" across the top, rim to rim. The colors on this are wonderful as it is not a solid gray but one side during the firing for some reason shaded into golden brown hues- these early pieces sometimes did this and in my opinion it's like a piece of art. The rim on this is about 1/2" and is decorated ... morewith 3 incised rings around the outside. Then about 1 1/2 down the side there is another plain incised ring circling the crock. FLAWS: The poor old thing is not perfect and has suffered trauma. There are 3 cracks. Each equidistant from the other and each beginning on this thick rim and going down the side. One goes at an angle and around the side(and this one has a chip along the crack just below the rim where it starts- you can see it in the pics) and meets the other crack which goes all the way to the base but NOT into the bottom. Then there is a third which starts and goes down about 4" The saving grace is that they are all tight but I wouldn't put anything in it like wooden spoons which might stress these with pressure. My last 3 pictures show the cracks I have described and my next to last picture with the 3 fingers pointing to the top of each crack and my 2 fingers in the last one point to the distance between the two which converge. Hope this helps. HOWEVER. ALL THAT BEING SAID, it is a great piece to use for dried flowers or simply to display up on a shelf or cabinet to add'that look' that is so hard to get with newer items which just don't h

The size is approximately 7 inches high and a 4 inch diameter top and bottom. There is a tight 2 inch hairline starting at the rim and a yellow line that appears to be in the glaze. The crock has the normal flaws you find in early stoneware. Shipping will include double box and insurance. Please check photos carefully and ask questions. We describe our items to the best of our ability. But we are not an expert in any field. We will not always detail each flaw the same way that you may view it. Antique Jas. Hamilton Greensboro, Pa. Stoneware Canning Crock
Antique Jas. Hamilton Greensboro. Pa. Stoneware Canning Crock This is an Antique Mid 1800's Jas. Hamilton Greensboro. Pa. Stoneware Canning Crock with Brushed Cobalt Stencil. The Crock measures 8 1/4" tall x 4" in diameter at the top x 5 1/4" at the base and weighs almost 4 lbs. before packaging. It holds 2 quarts. The Jas Hamilton Company was in operation from 1850-1916, so it is unusual to find a Crock in this good condition. There is over-glaze with a hot spot on the side during the making and a series of nibbles around the wax sealing lip, other then that, it is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. Very appealing. Please view the photos for further description. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*05e54c%3E-1438150b811-0xf8-

PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE~1881 WEIR #4 BALETOP SALT GLAZED STONEWARE CANNING JAR w/LID
Wonderful early 1800s WEIR#4 1 gallon antique stoneware crock features a patented iron bale and stoneware lid. This heavy stoneware"jar" was used for canned foods. Likely put away on some rural farm, and probably in the root cellar. Romantic notions aside, these jars, full of preserved goods, were essential for survival during the winter months for a 19th century farm family. Glazed in a putty color, this jar's finish crazed so long ago, that it looks like a Raku pottery piece, for a lovely effect. The wire bail is rusty, and there are factory flaws and a couple of"owwies" but nothing serious. The number 154 is impressed into the bottom. The lid reads(as best I can tell) THE WEIR, PAT'D APRIL 18TH 1881, and then more that I cannot make out at all. A great old piece! In remarkable shape for its age and usage; there ... moreare a number of very small chips on the lip of the jar. As well as several factory flaws and glaze misses. The only real damage is a spot that looks like an hard-boiled eggshell when it gets hit; it dents and the shell cracks, but doesn't break. See photos. No damage anywhere that I can see. Except for what I already described. 9 3/4" tall x 8 3/4" in diameter. PLEASE ALSO VISIT MY SISTER STORE. CROSS CREEK MARKET! I am always happy to combine shipping to save buyers money. Antique Western Stoneware Canning Crock Weir Seal 5 gallon
This Western Stoneware canning crock appears to be from the early 20th century. There are no markings indicating the size but from my research and the measurements it appears to be a 5 Gallon crock. Not very common to find this style and size canning crock. It does not have a lid. I've spent a little time online looking for a replacement but I'll let whoever buys it take care of that: CONDITION: As you can see from the pictures there are a few chips. Which is expected from a crock of this age. Besides that everything appears to be solid. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. I'm no expert on this item but will do my best to research and answers questions! SHIPPING: I'll be boxing this item up myself and will make sure to pack it well! I'll be using Fed Ex to ship this item out and will have insurance ... morematching the final bid price. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! Salt Glazed Canning or Storage Stoneware Crock, Waxed Seal Design, Circa 1900’s
I am so pleased to offer this wonderful antique salt glazed canning or storage crock. The vintage crocks of long ago were used mainly as storage for foods that had to be kept for a lengthy period of time without refrigeration. The knowledge of refrigeration and preservatives were not known when most of these crocks were used. This crock is designed to be sealed with wax to make it air tight for storage. This crock is in great condition with no cracks or repairs. There is one small chip about 3/4 inch in diameter at the outside edge of the top rim. The measurements of this jug are 9.25 inches tall. 7 inches in diameter across the base, and circumference around the middle is 22.75 inches. The glaze is in perfect condition with no firing imperfections. I see no variation in the light gray color of the glaze of this crock. There is one color ... moreaddition to describe; this crock has a tobacco spit spot decoration on the shoulder rim at the top of this jug. Tobacco spit glaze marks are not considered an imperfection. Frequently, the potters would apply these tobacco spits as decorations. This jugs texture has a slight sandy texture. The glaze was formed by throwing common salt into the kiln during the higher temperature part of the firing process. Sodium from the salt reacts with silica in the clay body to form a glassy coating of sodium silicate. This jug is heavy
