A tall syrup in a slim tankard ... moreform with gorgeous conical lid in stoneware. It has Aged extremley well. Near Museum quality in our opinion and look at the shape. Slight underglaze darkening but glaze beautiful. gorgeous loop hangle with thumbrest. Lid immaculate. Hinge immaculate. Original gold lines on rails bordering collar almost completely cleaned off but an easy restoration. Magnificent the way it is. There seems to be the slightest rub of the lid on the backside shoulder edge and a nick. Perhaps but otherwise, near museum quality to me. The glaze on the top edge of the tankard looks poured on. Image 12 shows the depth of the glaze and crackling depth. Polychromic Hand colored transfer of a stylized water bird resembling a Great Blue Heron wading in flowered wetlands decorating each side of syrup body has great color and is in beautiful condition. Interesting thumb lever appears to be styled or formed as the back of a book and is serrated in a chevron on the thumb side for a sure grip while pouring. Stands 6 1/2" to the top edge of the slim tankard. And 8" to the finial on beautiful conical lid. Handsome slim tankard form with beautiful classic loop handle with great thumbrest. You will not find many of these around in this condition. Stamped"BENNETT'S/ JAN 23. 1873/ PATENT" I would be interested in the patented feature or innovation represented by that patent. Magnificent slim tapering form. Great loop handle, outstanding lid and outstanding condition make this one you will REALLY LIKE. We cleaned the exterior. Inside is very clean. We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Flower Design 2 Gallon Ovoid Crock. This crock is in Excellent Condition with a few spider cracks on the base with 2 going through to the inside. 3 of them extend up the outside bottom of the crock. There are minor shallow chips to the upper rim. Both outside and inside. The crock is 100% structually sound, it rings true when you tap it and holds water no leaks. No other issues at all. The crock measures 12" tall x 10" wide x 8" at the mouth x 6 1/4" at the base and weighs approximately 10lb 10oz. The crock has an incised 2 below the one handle. A lovely large crock with a great ovoid shape and applied handles. It has a heavy and dark cobalt blue flower and leaf design that borders the top half of the crock. Cracks, hairlines or repairs. measures 14" tall 8" at widest point and 5" across bottom and holds 2 gallons. Has manufacturers hole near bottom(see pic) and was probably corked. It measures 15" tall& 11" at its widest point. The condition is very good. There is a hairline on the bottom rim which is about 4" long and runs up the side about 6"please see pictures 7& 8. There was a hairline which started at the top front of the crock went about 1/3 down and then across for about 6" above the stenciled decoration) which has been professionally restored and only noticeable upon close inspection. Excellent D. P. Shenfelder Reading. PA. 2 gallon Stoneware Jug and 1 gallon crock. There are no chips, fleabites or cracks, the glazing shows some wear. There are hairlines in the glazing. Stoneware Jug is 7.5" wide x 14" tall. Gallon Crock is 8" tall and 7.5" wide. Crock does not have the Shenfelder stamp but does support a#1 branding where the jug is stamped#2. Up for auction is an Antique Haxstun Ottman& Co. 4 Gal Fort Edward Decorated Blue Bird Stoneware Crock. This is a lovely large salt glaze crock with a beautiful large cobalt blue bird standing on a branch in the front. The blue design is 9 3/4" long X 6 1/2" high. Each side has the applied ear handles. Which are in excellent condition. This is a very decorative collectible crock. The bird design is eye-catching. Markings: Huxstun Ottman& Co. Fort Edward. NY 4(4 gallon) Circa: 1867- 1872. Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 3/4" in diameter at the rim. Base is 11 1/2" in diameter. Condition: Very clean inside and sturdy but there is a tight hairline that runs half way down the back and into the base. Shown in picture 6& 7 as well as the last two pictures. There are external discoloration stains at the bottom ... moreand on the base as shown in the pictures. The bottom of the base shows a spider hairline, see last two pictures. The rim has a chip, shown in picture 8. The inside and the back have some flakes in the glaze, shown in picture 9& 10. A 19th century blue decorated two gallon open stoneware crock by Hamilton& Jones. Greensboro, PA. It measures just shy of 12.5" tall and the top is about 7.25" across. Not a hairline to be found anywhere, only some rim chips- the largest measuring just over half an inch in length, just right of center on the top rim. Two more which are very tiny- both toward the back on the inner rim, less than a quarter inch each. There is wear to the blue decoration, but the stenciling is plenty legible. There is also some yellowish staining on either side of the crock. Other minor imperfections such as tiny dings and glaze skips, of which we are unsure whether they occurred in manufacturing. A 19th century one gallon blue decorated stoneware crock by James Hamilton& Co. Greensboro, PA. It measures approximately 10" tall and the top is about 5-5/8" wide. There is a three-way hairline on the side toward the bottom, right of center, extending about 1.5-2" each way(part of it extends through the" Co" blue stenciling) and also about 2" inward on the bottom of the piece(please see photos) As to the rim, there is some white paint/residue on the top rim, as well as a chip to the inner rim of less than half an inch in width. There is a tiny chip to the lower 2nd inner rim of less than a quarter inch in width. There are other minor imperfections and small dings which may or may not have occurred in manufacturing. An antique blue decorated stoneware crock which is stamped"1-1/2" gallon on the front. There is no maker's mark or stamp. The crock is approximately 6-3/8" tall and 9-7/8" wide across the top. The blue decoration is in a beautiful state of repair with virtually no wear. There is a large chip to the rim right of center on the side. Measuring nearly 2.25" in length. There is also a hairline on the back of the piece, which starts at the rim and extends about 4" downward. There are virtually no other problems- just some discoloration and the typical glaze skips/tiny dings. Please view the images for condition details. Large antique 19th c blue decorated stoneware jug crock ovoid bees NY 16.25"
A large antique blue decorated ovoid stoneware jug with bee decoration which we believe dates to the 19th century. The handle is big and thick and doesn't look like it's ever been broken off or cracked. Lots of heavy patina in the area of the handle and the top. The crock measures approximately 16-1/4" tall. Condition issues include five surface chips. The largest of which is on the front, just left of center near the top and measures approximately 1-1/2" by 1-3/8" Other surface chips appear on the front bottom(about 1-1/4" in width and 3/4" in width) and on the back about mid-way down(1" and 1/2" There are also five smaller chips to the very bottom edge of the piece, the largest of which measures approximately 1-1/8" in width. It is difficult to see because of the dark color of the jug, but ... morehere is a tight hairline which begins at the top and extends downward about 3-1/4" There are also some small holes. most notably two toward the bottom left of center on the side. There are also a couple areas of heavy wear to the glaze, and the typical tiny glaze skips and other minor imperfections. The bottom of the jug is covered in green felt(therefore we cannot speak to any hairlines which may be on the bottom) and there is a cork in the top with the top broken off- we acquired it this way and have not tried to get it out. There is even something inside the crock- it sounds like a marble but we will never know! We do not know the maker or region of origin, but it seems like a New York piece to us. While it could be restored, the appeal of this piece is largely the sheer size, shape, and the blue decoration, which is in a very nice state of repair. The surface chips are noticeable, and other issues mentioned only for accuracy; this piece still displays very well and has lots of character! Please view the images for condition details.
