Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. But slightly oblong in shape and the clay is slightly lumpy) 19th century 3 gallon salt ... moreglazed crock with bold cobalt leaf designs. It is sturdy, solid, and has a molded handle both sides. Due to age, the color of the clay has a slightly patchy appearance from discoloration. One of the handles has a few small flakes, but there are no other chips on the crock. There are three short cracks on the top edge that don't go all the way through the clay and look like they might be splits from firing. One very fine unnoticeable hairline on the top edge is slightly visible inside and out and is probably a true hairline from damage, but it is very difficult to see. All cracks are shown in the photos. There are two yellow streaks in the glaze on the front, also shown in the photos. They are part of the glaze and happened during manufacture. The crock measures 11" in diameter x 10 3/4" H. It will be packed securely in a double box and insured during shipping.

Antique New York Stoneware Blue Flower Salt Glazed 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock
Up for auction is an Antique New York Stoneware Deep Blue Flower Design 4 Gallon Crock. The New York Stoneware Co and the number 4 is impressed. The flower design is a very dark cobalt blue. Each side has an applied elephant ear handle. Circa: 1859- 1885. Fort Edward. NY) Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 1/2" in diameter at the top. Base 11" in diameter. Floral decoration is about 5" wide X 6" tall. The blue floral decoration has dots and circles. Condition: This crock is being sold AS IS. This is a solid crock but it has issues. Large Blue decoration has excellent dark cobalt blue color but has a chip at the top branch. Shown in picture 2. There is a large chip at the rim above the ear handle, picture 8. The same ear handle has a chip underneath the handle, shown in the same picture. On the outside, there is a spider ... morehairline that starts on the bottom and runs up the side, see close-up picture in picture 5, 10& 11. I would not trust this crock to hold water. There is one small chip in the dark brown glaze on the inside, last picture. Picture 5 shows a raised dark spot on the outside which appears to be from the manufacturing process. See all pictures. It has a 2" very thin surface glaze hairline coming off the rim on the inside. Several pitted spots in the clay around the outside of the bowl, which probably originated when the bowl was originally fired, some glaze nicks and some original glaze flaws. The bowl is a bit dingy and the inside is stained and yellowed from age and use, which only adds character to the piece and is the reason I love old pieces like this! Great looking old glazed BLUE AND WHITE salt crock decorated with cherries. Also an unusual marking on sides(see photo) no sure what it represents. Truly an old piece I would date to the late 1800s. Back scalloped flange or extension used for hanging it has been partially broken off. See photos for results. The line that looks like a crack along back edge under flange is actually a mark left from the mold. There is also a hole drilled in bottom most likely for water drainage if this was used as a planter. No chips or cracks. Few tiny nicks around base. This vintage stoneware was most likely made in the late 1800s to early 1900s when kitchenware pieces like this were a household staple. The crock measures 4" tall and just about 5 3/4" in diameter. The walls of this straight-sided round crock are 1/2" thick. The bottom and the top rim are unglazed. There is no marker’s mark to identify which pottery manufactured this stoneware crock. There were many potteries in the United States that made utilitarian salt glazed stoneware. It was not unusual. Vintage Antique Primitive Salt Glazed Crock Blue Tulip Double Loop Handles 2L
Offering this great primitive stoneware two handled crock. The crock measures approx. 6 3/4" tall by 7 1/2" across. There are discolorations throughout this old utilitarian piece which appear to be in the glaze from the firing process. Each side is decorated with a hand painted tulip and scrolled leaves topped and based by a blue band. The handles are decorated with vertical painted brush strokes. This wide mouth jar has no makers marks but does have"2L"2 liter) incised on the side. I believe this to be European made. Possibly German. California buyers must add 7.5% sales tax. Antique Salt Glazed#4 Stoneware Butter or Cake Crock with Raised Floral design and textured surface. It does not have Lid or Bale Handle. It measures about 8" in diameter by 5-1/4" high. The crock has old chips on inner lip but a lid would still rest on top if you could find the right size. There are also imperfections on bottom that were probably done in the making. Bursts splits while firing. Also has crazing. The bottom of crock may clean up nicely, I have not cleaned it. Any questions please ask before end of auction.

Antique ca.1850s Blue Cherries Salt Glazed 5.75T Stoneware Lidded Salt Crock
Offered is a very pretty. Made in America old salt crock with relief embossed cherry clusters and scrolls in vivid beautiful mid to dark cobalt blue over a light blue ground color. The lid is original to this salt holder crock that I purchased in 2004 from an antique shop in Perry. Missouri. Per“The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware” The cherry cluster pattern is extremely rare and desirable. Condition: Good antique condition. With distinct mold pattern, good blue color, and shiny glaze and no cracks, but has some firing flaws and one 1” x 3/8” chip to front of the top of the arched loop for hanging, which also wraps around and down ¼” on the back of this. There are the usual quite a few glaze pops. Linear impressions and excess pot stones. In particular. The inside has what appears to have been part of the upper chip, ... morewhich may have flaked off and fallen inside during the firing. We say this. Because the surrounding white angled area of the chip in front is fully glazed, which is odd if this was due to later damage. And on the back the surrounding area. Also at an angle is semi-glossy and what appears to be a curved ¼” long hairline crack running downward from that spot, has the glaze pooled into it and so is NOT a subsequent hairline crack. But was a firing flaw. Approximate Size: Height: 5.75” Top Opening Inner Diameter: 4 7/8” Base Diameter: 6” Lid: 5.25” diameter x 1.75” tall to top of knob· Weight: 3lbs before packaging Although unmarked. Up for sale is this very early two-handled salt-glazed crock with a cobalt blue leaf design. Over 160 years old. It is stamped L. B. G. CHACE, SOMERSET, and the letters are enhanced with cobalt blue as well as the ends of the handles. The crock dates to some time between 1847 and 1856, and was made in the Pottersville area of Somerset, Mass. a community on the river south of Taunton. Around 1847, Asa Chaces' grandsons, Benjamin G. Clark and Leonard built a stoneware kiln on the family lot and incorporated as Somerset Potters' Works. The interior of the crock has an Albany type slip glaze, and there are 2 incised lines surrounding a decorative deep groove that circles the crock toward the top. The handles are excellent and very solid, and the overall condition is very good and solid, with only one old rim chip and an old tight hairline. ... moreSee last two photos. Antique BUTTER CROCK salt glazed blue decoration replaced lid - no damage
19th Century Butter Crock This butter crock is a light gray salt- glazed with a blue decoration that says"Butter" And a decoration that goes all the way around the crock. Minor pitting from the glaze and a few areas where the glaze flaked off and it is dark. But no chips, hairlines, or cracks. No major damage. The crock measures 6 1/4" in diameter and 4 1/8" tall. The lid has been replaced with a wooden lid. Much nicer than my pictures show. Please see photos. I am items from my own collection. Because they deserve to be seen and enjoyed. Gray outside. It is in good used condition, it has no major damage and no repairs. It has a few faint age cracks along the base but nothing deep or visible unless closely inspected. I don't know anything about this. Bought it years ago. It looks like other crocks on ebay that are listed as German or Westerwald. But I do not know if those are correct descriptors. It is 8" tall with a"4" on the side of it. Heavy with bright cobalt design.
