1/2 Gallon Stoneware Crock 5" tall by 7" diameter SMALL FRACTURE,ADDS CHARACTER!
This auction is for a vintage 1/2 gallon stoneware crock. This measures right at 5" tall and has a diameter right at 7"across. This has a fracture in the that start part way down the side and continues half way across the bottom. This is a fracture not a break. I am not sure what the crock was used for, I have cleaned it up, you may want to do more. Most crocks will have a fracture and some blemishes, to me it adds character to these pieces. This auction is for a very rare 1 1/2 gallon salt glaize crock that has many production defects and a very unusual size making this crock a great addition to any collection. The crock displays very nicely. Then you look at it with a close examining eye you start to notice the manufactoring errors. The top or mouth measures 7 1/2" across on direction and 8" across in the opposite E-W N-S. The pattern lines around the top are not complete all the way around the crock. Mini Whiskey Advertising Jug 1/2 Gallon New York Liqour House Crock Stoneware
This is one of the neatest Liqour advertising jugs we've put up for sale. It actually has an old four digit phone# on it. And that is very rare. At 8" tall x 5 3/4" this isn't exactly a mini jug, but it is a very nice collectible 1/2 gallon size. The Denver phone service started in 1879. After some research we found that both the Telephone Exchange and The New York Liquor House were on Larimer st. The jug says: The New York Liquor House 2311-13 Larimer Street Telephone 1910- Denver. Colo. The jug is in pretty good shape. No cracks. There is one chip on the upper shoulder. And three chips at the bottom of the jug. All shown in pictures. There are also the usual hand made manufacturing defects that are under the original glaze, blurred and faded stamp, color spots, glaze skips, crazing, debris under glaze, and thats OK because ... morethey show the real age of the jug. This jug comes from a time when the old west days and the Victorian days were mixing together. And they had a telephone. WoW! How cool would it be to call over for a bottle of wine and a guy on a horse delivers it. At the same time when a lot of America didn't even have electricity. Investors this is the real deal. This jug is a collector cross over of several different types. From the wiskey advertising jug, of the old west, to the high tech telephone. Don't miss out. Two years later(in 1878) Frederick O. Vaille obtained rights from Bell Telephone of Boston to develop telephone service in the new Rocky Mountain state. The next year, Denver’s first telephone exchange opened at 1514 Larimer Street above Frick's Shoe Store on the south side of Larimer Street. It housed the 17th telephone exchange in the nation. The office belonged to the Colorado Telephone Company. NICE ANTIQUE 1/2 GALLON STONEWARE CROCK WITH WIDE RIM unknown maker
For sale is a nice antique salt glaze 1/2 gallon stoneware crock. The only damage that I could find was a small chip at the top of the rim that measures a little less than 1/4 inch in length and is less than a millimeter deep. The crock has an unusual large rim that measures 1 and 1/4 inches in width. It stands roughly 6 and 1/2 inches tall and measures 4 and 3/4 inches in diameter on the inside of the rim. There is a small area that did not get glazed on the back side of the crock. There is also a spot that looks like some one pushed in two fingers before the crock was fired. For your consideration is a crock with a 1/2 of a gallon capacity. Debossed into the bottom is MONMOUTH POTTERY CO. This company was located in Monmouth. Illinois. This company was organized on February 1, 1893 and began operations in the spring of 1894. This crock has a tie ring; meaning that a cloth could be placed over the top and there is a groove around the top in which a string can be placed and tied to hold the cloth, which protects the contents from whatever. This piece of stoneware is 6 1/8" tall and the bottom is almost 5 5/8" in diameter. On the rim, are some chips, most of which are insignificant; around the bottom edge are more minor to insignificant chips. Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my auction listing. I have available a very RARE find. It is a salt glazed interior and exterior. 1 1/2" gallon stoneware crock. This hand made crock has not chips or major cracks to speak of. The only noticed damage when inspecting it closely in the light was what I took a picture of in picture#6. It is a hairline spider, that is not all the way through. The height of this unusual crock is 10 1/16" tall x 7 1/2 bottom x 7 1/4" top and has 3/4" walls. When looking inside the interior walls, finger and tool marks are present. The bottom is completely flat, consistent with a piece made in the later part of the 1800's. The interior color is glazed over black and the exterior has stenciled 1 1/2 under glaze in cobalt blue. Antique Blue Decorated 1 1/2 Gallon STONEWARE CROCK J Eberly Strasburg Virginia
This is an Antique Stoneware Crock that is marked J. Eberly& Bro. Strasburg, Virginia. It is a 1 1/2 Gallon Crock with 4 Blue Decorated Flowers on it. From what I have read, this Crock is from the Late 1800s. The stamp is the mark of Jacob Jeremiah Eberly and his brother Joseph who began pottery manufacture in 1874 after buying a share of Keister Pottery. See the discussion in H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, p. 399. This Crock measures 9 5/8" tall by 7 1/2" in diameter and weighs a little over 7 pounds. The Crock is a little more grey in color then my pictures show. I may have had to much light on it when I took the pictures. This Antique Stoneware Crock is in Excellent Condition. Antique Vintage Glazed 1/2 gallon Stoneware Crock Canning Fruit Jar wax seal Up for bid is a very nice antique 1880's era crock made out of stoneware for canning fruit. Preserves, and such prior to the introduction of glass mason jars. There is no marking of the maker or the exact year it was produced. Wax is used to seal these jars. This particular crock was not made with a bale and lid. It measures approximately 5" wide at base and 9" tall. The opening measures 3" wide. This wonderful piece is in normal condition for age with a small chip on bottom edge and has few minor scratches. Scuffs, and surface cracks. The inner glaze remains intact with no concerns. This would be great to use yet if desired or you can start a collection or add it to your current collection. This crock came from an auction in Vermont. It is marked 1 1/2. The crock measures 9 1/4" high and about 8 3/4" in diameter at the widest point. It does not have any cracks. It does have two chips on the inside of the rim. There are a couple of small surface chips. See the 8th picture. One ear has rub marks, the other has a small chip. Rare H. P. Co. Hawthorn Pottery Company pottery crock -- 1-1/2 gallon
This rare 1-1/2 gallon Hawthorn Pottery Company(H.P. Co) crock weighs 5-1/2 pounds and measures approximately 7 inches in height by 13 inches in diameter. During 1899 through the 1920's. The H.P. Company was a thriving industry in the Redbank Valley of Hawthorn, PA. The company relied on local materials, using potters clay from the Redbank creek for its jugs and crocks. In recent decades, these have become treasured collectors' items. This crock is in good condition, with charming imperfections resulting from the manufacturing process plus standard wear and tear over a century of time.

These are rare to find in the 1 1/2 gallon variety, what makes this one really rare in the artist mark inscribed on the bottom. 9 1/4" tall X 7 1/2" wide Condition; Pristine. Water tested with no leaks or cracks. Fresh from local Estate and is a one owner family piece. Was kept in a private collection that was packed away and rarely was out in view. VA antique 1 & 1/2 gallon blue decorated crock
I am selling a VA 1 and 1/2 gallon antique cobalt blue decorated crock. It has 4 separate large feather decorations around the surface. It is a beautiful piece of stoneware. It is 11 1/2" tall and it has a 7" diameter top. There is an insignificant chip around the rim and an age hairline that can be seen from the inside of the crock which can be noted in the photo. I took a photo of the exterior and the age hairline is nearly impossible to see. The crock is in superb condition otherwise. I wrap my items thoroughly to ensure their safety when traveling.
