1896 DUNDEE Marmalade Jar James Keiller & Sons Stoneware Crock London Vintage
This is a very old ironstone ware crock-type jug from Great Britain. It is marked James Keiller& Sons. Dundee. It once held marmalade. It was found in the 1970s at a dumpsite which had been closed in 1896, so the assumption is that it dates back to the late 1800's. I've seen others like it on Ebay but this one indicates the"Contents 1 lb. Nett. instead of"Net. I don't know if that helps pinpoint its age. The jug or crock itself has"Grand Medal of Merit Vienna 1873. Item measures 3" in diameter x 4 1/2" tall. It has what looks like crazing on it as well as some discoloration; see all my pictures. It will be packed carefully and insured which is reflected in the S&H amt.

Large. 2 gallon size rustic, glazed transferware advertising crock in cream color, brown script and border design. There are no cracks, or chips! Very old but in pristine shape. Bottom marking states: 2 GAL indented into the stoneware with a makers mark of: Crown Stoneware. Measures 6 1/2" tall, 6" diameter. The advertising on the front says"Grand Medal for Marmalade James Carberry Marmalade. London England" There is a holly leaf wreath design around the advertising, all in a brown font. James Carberry Trade Mark Marmalade Crock Grand Medal for Marmalade London 1886 Corona Stone(printed on bottom) 1/2 Gal(engraved on bottom) Color: Cream with Blue Printing Size: 6-5/8 Inches Tall X 6-1/8 Inch in Diameter Condition: No Chips or Cracks. There is some blue paint splashes inside and out from when they printed the crock. I guess that was common since it was only a food container and not a decorative piece. Moira Pottery Works England Stoneware Miniature Marmalade. Cheese Crock With Lid Listed for sale is this early. Stoneware marmalade crock or pot by Moira Pottery Works, England. Moira Pottery was in business from 1922-1972 and produced mainly utilitarian stoneware. Measures 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" and includes the cover making this little crock a very rare gem based on it's scarce diminutive size and the inclusion of the rarely found unbroken cover. Dates to the 1920's or 1930's as indicated by the early stamp on the base. see photos) In tip-top condition with no chips or cracks. Including the cover. HERE IS A SMALL VINTAGE CROCKERY JAR THAT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH MARMALADE. IT HAS BOLD BLACK LETTERING THAT SAYS: GRAND MEDAL OF MERIT VIENNA 1873 JAMES KEILLER& SONS DUNDEE MARMALADE ONLY PRIZE MEDAL FOR MARMALADE LONDON. 1862 GREAT BRITAIN. ALONG WITH THE LETTERING IS A WREATH OF LEAVES WITH A BOW. THIS CUTE LITTLE STONEWARE JAR IS 4 1/2" TALL& 3" IN DIAMETER. CONDITION IS GOOD BUT I DO NEED TO POINT OUT THAT IT DOES HAVE A CLUSTER OF CRAZING ON THE UPPER TO MIDDLE RIGHT SIDE OF THE JAR. THIS CRAZING SHOWS ON THE INSIDE AS WELL. THE BACK SIDE OF THE JAR HAS A SMALL CHIP FLAW ON THE RIM BUT IT'S UNDER THE GLAZE SO I FIGURE IT CAME OUT PRODUCED THAT WAY. LOWER DOWN FROM THIS ABOUT THE MIDDLE OF THE JAR IS A SMALL AREA OF STONEWARE THAT'S ON THE SURFACE. THEN THE LAST PHOTO SHOWS A DARK LINE THAT IS GOING DOWN ALONG ... moreTHE EDGE OF THE PRINTING. I'M WONDERING IF IT COULD BE INK FROM PRINTING THE ADVERTISING. IT DOESN'T EASILY WIPE OFF. IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY"FEEL" TO IT. IT ISN'T A CRACK. Wm. P. Hartley's Marmalade 1 Lb. Jar Crock with Partial Paper Label, England
4-1/8" high. 3-1/8" in diameter. On the label: Fresh Seville oranges, made only from fresh fruit and finest sugar and no other ingredients whatever. Made in England, 1 lb. net. There was other writing, but the label is partially gone. On the bottom: Not genuine unless bearing Wm. P. Hartley's Label. There is a 3/8" chip out of the jar at the base. The bottom shows excellent age wear. Please wait for my invoice before you check out. So that I can give you a correct amount for shipping and insurance.
