Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. But slightly oblong in shape and the clay is slightly lumpy) 19th century 3 gallon salt ... moreglazed crock with bold cobalt leaf designs. It is sturdy, solid, and has a molded handle both sides. Due to age, the color of the clay has a slightly patchy appearance from discoloration. One of the handles has a few small flakes, but there are no other chips on the crock. There are three short cracks on the top edge that don't go all the way through the clay and look like they might be splits from firing. One very fine unnoticeable hairline on the top edge is slightly visible inside and out and is probably a true hairline from damage, but it is very difficult to see. All cracks are shown in the photos. There are two yellow streaks in the glaze on the front, also shown in the photos. They are part of the glaze and happened during manufacture. The crock measures 11" in diameter x 10 3/4" H. It will be packed securely in a double box and insured during shipping.

WHAT A CROCK OF. Gooseberry Preserves. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. It is in sound fine condition with no damage, no chips, no hairlines. nothing beyond the the usual firing scratch in the making or tiny rough clay blob on rim glazed over. I know this is English having travelled to the UK buying fields myself seeing these on offer occasionally, and this lovely example was deacessioned last week from a retired English Dealer in Gettysburg, PA who purchased it

SMALL BROWN GLAZED CROCK JAR POTTERY STONEWARE 1860 VIRGINIA WEST INCISED RING
Here is a MOST INTERESTING OLD CROCK from WEST VIRGINIA OR VIRGINIA I THINK. I know that it is old. Probably pre CIVIL WAR around 1860- It has a an INCISED RING down to about the middle that sets it apart from most others of its type. It is small, even diminutive, measuring just 6 1/4 inches in height, 4 inches across the top and 4 1/4 inches across the base. The bare clay on the base indicates that it is REDWARE. Now the GOOD NEWS- It is in MINT- PERFECT CONDITION. I cannot find one thing wrong with it. For the age that is REMARKABLE. You will notice that one of the photos make the pot look like blue. That is where the sun was hitting it, a reflection. The interior shows the EXACT SAME BROWN GLAZE AS THE OUTSIDE DOES. GREAT LITTLE JAR. Buyer pays $8.00 domestic shipping and handling. The walls of this straight-sided round crock are 1/2" thick. The bottom and the top rim are unglazed. There is no marker’s mark to identify which pottery manufactured this stoneware crock. Early glazed stoneware pottery crock with cover and handle
Been in our barn for generations. I tried to research its manufacturer without much success. It is probably early 1900's. The piece is all light gray measuring 7 1/2" in diameter on the bottom. The jar tapers at the top to an outside diameter of 6 1/4" with a 4 1/2" opening. The 5" cover fits nicely. While examining the jar. I believe the base of the jar and tapered top were formed separately and joined while still green before firing. A turned wooden handle is connected to tabs formed on the jar with wire. It stands 7" high. There are 2 chips on the jar, one on the top rim and one on the outside of the base. There are no other cracks and the glaze does not show any crazing. We are clearing out our 4 generation house& barn. Up for auction is a Vintage Glazed 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock with Lid. The crock is two tone(wheat and dark brown) in color on the outside. And a dark brown on the inside. Jug measures approximately 11.5" High x 9" inches in Diameter and weighs over 10.5 lbs. Overall good condition with some wear to the dark brown glaze around the top of the crock. There are also a couple of small chips at the base of the crock and on the lid. Please closely review all of the photos for the material condition of the item. The condition is very good to excellent with no cracks and no chips it has a little rough spot on the inner rim but not an actual chip. It measures 8" high and 8-1/4" in diameter at the widest part.

Vintage Old MONON Railroad Train Railway Glazed Stoneware Pottery Water Jug Just one serious collector and this water jug will be gone! Acquired in upper Central Indiana from an estate. This is a glazed stoneware crock that is marked MONON ROUTE in blue letters across the front. These were used to carry water for the engineer or crew. This jug holds approximately one gallon of liquid. No cracks. One filled in chip on the bottom(which does not go through to the inside) and with a few small chips around the bottom edge and the usual minor mold flaws and that are commonly found on these items. The surface has a mottled look in places. But this is normal and common for these utilitarian items. A must-have for the Monon collector. Or for someone who ... morespecializes in collecting railroad-marked pottery pieces. As far as I know, there are only a few railroad-marked water jugs from perhaps 6 or 7 railroads. These crocks were never meant to last very long and to find one in this great condition is unusual. Imagine these being moved around and set in any given place on a moving train; the chances of their survival with that kind of use is minimal at best. These are not easy to find and I personally will suspect I will never find another as many were simply broken or tossed away when better ways of carrying water came along.
