ANTIQUE CROCK JAMES B. HAMILTON GREENSBORO PA. 1871 REDWARE ROOF TILE
THIS IS A GREAT PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY- IT IS A JAMES B. HAMILTON. GREENSBORO, PA. REDWARE OR EARTHENWARE ROOF TILE STAMPED JBH 1871 THERE IS ONE EXACTLY LIKE IT YOU CAN SEE ON THE WINTERTHUR MUSEUM WEBSITE. IT IS MUSEUM# 1967.0205.001 HERE IS ALSO AN EXCERPT FROM THE GREENSBORO HISTORY SITE: Albert Gallatin. A partner in the Albert Gallatin Company, purchased lots in Greensburgh in 1795. On a trip to Washinton, D.C. he met a group of German glass blowers who were heading to Kentucky to form their own company. He urged them to consider settling in Greensburgh. The group settled in New Geneva in 1790 and the plant operated there until 1805 when it moved to the northern section of Greensburgh, later called Old Glassworks. By 1807 the quality of Glassworks Glass was recognized as superior throughout the country. Old Glassworks did a booming ... morebusiness and prosperity filled the streets of Greensburgh. Albert Gallatin sold his interest in the glass factory to the Kramers. Who operated it until 1849. Although the Glassworks Glass Factory closed in 1849. By 1859 the town, now known as Greensboro, was flourishing with 500 inhabitants. Much of the success of the town was due to river trade and travel and other industries such as the pottery business and the Tile Manufacturing Company which produced roof tile. Souvenirs of both industries are still treasured by many residents in the form of Greensboro Crocks and roof tile with the inscription JBH-Patent 1871. THIS TILE IS IN GREAT CONDITION. WITH ONLY MINIMAL SIGNS OF USE. THE LAST 2 PICTURES WHERE IT LOOKS DARKER IS JUST WHERE IT IS STILL WET FROM WHERE I CLEANED IT. I HAVE 6 OF THESE- HOWEVER THIS AUCTION IS ONLY FOR 1- IF YOU ARE THE WINNING BIDDER AND WANT MORE THAN 1 OR ALL 6 I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO TRY TO WORK SOMETHING OUT WITH YOU. IF YOU ARE A CROCK COLLECTOR. YOU NEED AT LEAST 1 OF THESE TO DISPLAY WITH YOUR COLLECTION! THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Early American REDWARE Stoneware Ovoid CROCK Jar Incised BEST Glaze RARE Handled
Lg. Early ANTIQUE REDWARE Stoneware OVOID CROCK Jar Jug Incised- RARE Handles This listing is for an early antique stoneware redware ovoid shape handled crock or storage jar with primitive. Out of round form. The handles on this crock are very unusual and rare. They look to be formed or pulled from the piece. Rather than applied as is commonly seen. The crock is indented, creating a recess behind each handle that allows for carrying. The handles are joined to the main body of the crock on each end. They have an arched shape that makes them easy and comfortable to hold on to. It seems to be an ingenious design. Yet I have not seen this type of handle before. And cannot find another example in any of the American stoneware pottery books. This utilitarian crock or jar was given some beautiful decorative touches with both incised and raised banding ... morearound the body of the piece. At the mouth. There is a rolled rim with two incised bands beneath. In the middle, at handle height, the crock has four raised bands that encircle it at the widest point. The glaze on this jar is stunning. With a wide range of color. There are shapes formed by the glaze that look almost like letters, perhaps a mark of some sort? Or maybe just a happy accident. I believe this piece is quite old. Dating to the early to mid 19 th century. Possibly even the late 18 th century. Though I don’t know the exact age. It measures approx. 12” tall and 12” across the widest point. The mouth is approx. 8-8 ½” across and the base measures 6 ¼” in diameter. The handles are approx. 3 ¼” long x ½” thick. The jar is in very good antique condition. It has appropriate wear for a utilitarian pottery piece of this age. The piece has no cracks or other structural damage. The lip of the crock shows a fair amount of age related wear. Most of the wear is superficial only. With a number of areas where the glaze has flaked or chipped off, but there are just a couple of shallow surface chips as well(please see pictures. The exterior body of the piece is

Antique Redware Bowl Pennsylvania Crock Interior Glaze
ANTIQUE REDWARE BOWL CROCK WITH INTERIOR GLAZE This very nice large redware bowl. Belongs to a 94yr old lady that lived in the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania and tells me this is redware and it belonged to her grandmother? It measures 4-1/2' tall 9" across top and 5" at the bottom. The bowl features a dark pumpkin color glazed exterior. Incised rim. And a tan crackled interior. Perhaps the best feature of this old bowl is that it is in wonderful condition for its age. No cracks or hairlines but possible crazing or this is just the way it was made. But you can definitely tell it is an antique. In picture you will see a defect but it is not a whole or crack. A wonderful piece of nineteenth century Pennsylvania redware! Antique Primitive Salt Glazed Crock Dark Clay Redware? Stoneware
This is an Antique crock in good condition. Good primitive condition and glaze. The base clay is a dark color, perhaps Redware, but I'm no expert. The biggest issue with this piece is some unusual stones and lack thereof on the bottom. The chips on the bottom appear to be pre-firing clay loss. See photos for yourself. This weighs over 6 pounds. So I will pack it very well, and apoligize for the shipping cost. Crock measures 7-1/4" high x 9-3/8" diameter at top and 6" diameter at base. Please look at the pictures carefully. Antique 9 1/4" Unglazed Redware Crock
A very Early Unglazed Redware Crock dating to the 19th. century. The crock stands 9 1/2" tall and 10" across the top. It is a very attractive piece of Redware. With lots of character. The crock does have three minor chips in the rim. When looking at the bottom of the crock it would appear that it has several hairlines, but they were probably there at the making of the piece. They do not come through to the inside of the base. An overall great piece of Redware. Please email me with any questions that you have.
