Offering this nice old vintage brown crock that was probably pre-1930's that I found at a recent estate auction. There is a chip in the outside rim that appears to be a factory defect otherwise it is a very solid old crock. This would look nice in the kitchen holding utensils or other related items. Old Antique Redwing 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock Jug Butter Churn Red Wing
We have this old Redwing butter churn crock to offer in good as found condition. It is marked with the wing and Union Stoneware logo. It has wire handles. No lid and a nice 4" wing. The crock has a flaw on the bottom that looks like it was made this way. Just a hole, small. not a chip. There is a 1" crack that is on the bottom rim that is also a firing crack. Only shallow and not seen inside. This is a good Redwing Churn and is a hard to find piece. It is in good clean condition and is 16 1/2" tall. For your consideration is a bottom marked butter crock of the five pound size. This butter crock was made by Minnesota Stoneware Co. which was located in Red Wing. Minnesota. The embossed writing on the bottom, says: MINNESOTA STONEWARE CO. RED WING; I have bought, sold, traded and collected stoneware since 1973 and have literally owned hundreds of pieces that were bottom marked MINNESOTA STONEWARE; as for the mark being distinct and readable, this butter crock has to be in the top five of embossed MINNESOTA STONEWARE marks. This company existed in Red Wing, Minnesota from 1883-1906. The glaze indicates this butter crock was manufactured between 1895 and 1906. This butter crock has a tie ring, which means it has an indented ring close to the rim in which a string can be placed to hold a cloth or paper that is stretched over the top. The cloth ... moreor paper is to shield the contents from whatever is in the atmosphere. This butter crock has a height of approximately 4 7/8" and the bottom has a diameter of approximately 6 5/8" This butter crock has 0 cracks, however it does have a chip on the inner rim and another chip where the side meets the bottom. Vintage R.R.P. CO. Rosville. Ohio U.S.A. Tan stoneware crock.4.5” in diameter and 3.125” high and weighs approx 1 pounds 6 ounces. It is in used condition. There is a rough spot on the bottom inside in the glaze and otherwise. There are no cracks or chips. I have included a full group of pics showing all sides top& bottom. The bottom mark is the R.R.P Co. Roseville. O. U.S.A. in an oval stamp. A bit of history for those interested: R.R.P. Co. Rosville. Ohio U.S.A the beginning: Frank Ransbottom. A successful jobber of stoneware and pottery, decided to started his own company(with his brother) in 1900 to distribute pottery products made locally Ohio. The brothers had been exposed to making pottery by their father, Alfred, who operated the Bluebird Potteries in Ohio. By 1916 the Ransbottom Pottery Company was the largest producer of stoneware ... morejars. Merged in 1920: Wanting to diversify. Ransbottom merged with Robinson Clay Products Co, a producer of tile and bricks. The product lines were expanded and included gardenware. 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Crock 5" tall by 7" diameter SMALL FRACTURE,ADDS CHARACTER!
This auction is for a vintage 1/2 gallon stoneware crock. This measures right at 5" tall and has a diameter right at 7"across. This has a fracture in the that start part way down the side and continues half way across the bottom. This is a fracture not a break. I am not sure what the crock was used for, I have cleaned it up, you may want to do more. Most crocks will have a fracture and some blemishes, to me it adds character to these pieces. For sale is an Antique Pickle or Kraut Jug 4/5 Gallon with a Wide Mouth. This is a piece of North Carolina Stoneware circa 1900 made for domestic use. The jug is 8" tall and 5.75" in diameter at the base. It is 2.75" at the opening. The jug is in good antique condition with no real chips and only manufacturing flaws and related ageing defects. The jug still holds water. There are markings on the base but they are indistinguishable either from wear or age. Please examine the photos carefully. On the outside it is blue washed with a floral design It also has blue on the handles This stoneware crock is a hair under 4.5" tall and is 6" across the brim. I do like to list any flaws that I am aware of on any listing that I post and with this one there are some small chip marks at the bottom but I am not sure they were not made during the manufacutuing of this item.
