Here are 2 vintage brown glazed butter or cheese crocks The first one the left does not have a lid or bale. But there are factory depressions for the bale to attach. There is a small chip on the bottom edge. It is 3 1/2" tall x 4 1/2" wide. No marks. The one on the right has the lid. Gasket and bale and is in working order. It has few minor glaze flakes on the bottom edge and inside the rim. It is about 5 1/2" tall including the bale x 3 1/2" wide. It is stamped on the bottom in purple-20822 $F139. This is a small but great old crock. It has no identifying marks. It has lovely character marks and signs of age. The is one very fine crack less than two inches long extending from the rim down and is visible in the enlarged picture of the inside. We have this old Redwing butter churn crock to offer in good as found condition. It is marked with the wing and Union Stoneware logo. It has wire handles. No lid and a nice 4" wing. The crock has a flaw on the bottom that looks like it was made this way. Just a hole, small. not a chip. There is a 1" crack that is on the bottom rim that is also a firing crack. Only shallow and not seen inside. This is a good Redwing Churn and is a hard to find piece. It is in good clean condition and is 16 1/2" tall. The embossed writing on the bottom, says: MINNESOTA STONEWARE CO. RED WING; I have bought, sold, traded and collected stoneware since 1973 and have literally owned hundreds of pieces that were bottom marked MINNESOTA STONEWARE; as for the mark being distinct and readable, this butter crock has to be in the top five of embossed MINNESOTA STONEWARE marks. This company existed in Red Wing, Minnesota from 1883-1906. The glaze indicates this butter crock was manufactured between 1895 and 1906. This butter crock has a tie ring, which means it has an indented ring close to the rim in which a string can be placed to hold a cloth or paper that is stretched over the top. This has a raised lid, as is often with a salt box or crock. These came marked both as Salt or Butter; also unmarked, as is this one. We think the condition of the crock is good. But please check the pictures for your own determination. It does have a very fine crack on one side, running from the top, 3 in. down the side, not very noticeable; it has only one chip. This is a unique cheese or butter crock. Picture 8 shows a chip in the lid. But it may have been during the manufacturing process. There are also some other imperfections from the making of this piece as you can see in photos. There are two very fine hairline cracks on this crock. Pictures 11 and 12 show these. Large Blue and White Daisy and Waffle Butter Crock with Lid Coming to you from Doc's Crocks. America's Source for Antique Stoneware. Is this gorgeous Blue and White Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid in the Daisy and Waffle Pattern. This beauty features a Trellis Background that Hosts Four Daisies under a Swirl Border. The lid repeats the trellis background. The designation"large" is warranted because this piece is larger than any piece in this pattern that I have ever had to sell- 5 1/4" tall and 7 1/4" wide! Some would call it a pastry crock. This crock is discussed in Terry Taylor and Terry& Kay Lowrance. Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware, pp. 111-112. Excellent Condition. The base has one 3/16" chip inside the rim. The lid has some pinhead-size nibbles and two chips(1/8" 3/8" ... moreon the underside edge. No hairlines. Offering antique 19th century large covered stoneware salt glaze butter crock with mold fruit and floral decoration on the body of the crock and the lid. The condition of the crock is excellent. The lid has one small flat flake on the ede only. The background of the surface has been decorated with molded wave pattern- see pictures. The name BUTTER is molded on the front of the crock.There is original metal wire handle. It is 6 3/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" deep. Measures with the lid the covered butter crock is 4 1/8" tall and the lid is 6 5/8" across. Weight before packing is 3.12 lbs. This is old item and demonstrate characteristic of age including wear on the bottom and top edge. As identified in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This auction is for a common pattern Daisy And Trellis Butter Holder. It measures 6" wide by 4.75 tall. Mint value $125- $175. There are six large daisies on a close trellis background. This is missing a lid and a bail which it held at one time. Bail holes for this mold were not made to go through to the interior. There is one fine hairline crack on the interior of bail hole placement that extends from top down approx 2.75" it is not visible on outside surface. The opposite bail hole has an old chip on the ear approx 1/2" long. Please refer to pics as details of description of condition and ask any questions before bidding. Up for auction is a stoneware cheese or butter crock. It is a darker brown color with bail and rubber seal. It measures approx. 3 1/4" in diameter and 4 1/4' tall not including the bail and the highest pont of the top or the knob.It has 175 and the cent mark on the bottom. It is in good used condition however it does have some scuffing or scratches on the one side. It does not take away from its use or even its appeal. These may have come from perhaps the label being removed. Winner to pay shipping charges. Insurance has been added as it is a breakable piece. Antique Stoneware Blue Advertising Lambrecht Butter 12 Cent Crock
This advertising piece of stoneware has a lovely ivory color with cobalt blue writing. A great bowl to keep keys and your wallet in or use in the kitchen. It is advertising Lambrecht Butter made in New Jersey and has a 12 cent deposit. Has no chips or cracks that were not original flaws in the making. There is a three veined crack at one of the 12 cent deposits area where the blue ink has flowed into. But then again this was done in the making. It holds 1 1/2 cups so it can be used as a measure. Nice old butter crock with blue stenciled lettering- stands 4 1/2" tall and about 7 1/2" across. I do not know who the manufacturer would be. Crock is shiny inside and out with no chips; however. There are two hairline cracks on opposite sides which are visible inside and out. On the outside the cracks are only 1 1/2" long; however, on the inside the cracks extend for about 3" See the last four photos. Because the cracks are almost straight across from each other, I am wondering if this damage was initially caused during the manufacturing process. Antique Butter Churn Stoneware 6 gallon Catawba NC Two Style Handle Rare 18'5"
Up for auction is this rare and complete Catawba Valley butter churn in excellent condition. It is the largest size made and few still exist so its quite a fine piece of history. Catawba pottery is famous for the alkaline stoneware made from the river valley of western North Carolina. Has number 6 imbedded below handle and comes with churn lid and wooden dasher. This also tells me with the style and location of the number that it is a Reinhardt piece. Another tell tale sign its a Reinhardt is the ribbing or rings that you can see and feel going around the base of churn. I captured that in the 6th picture on the inside. I couldnt get a good picture of the ribbing on the outside but it is noticable and adds more character. The handles are of two styles. One of a pig ear or lug. The other is a large loop handle. This style of churn handle was ... moredeveloped to make carrying such a large churn easier. The bottom of lid has a one inch chip/crack that was done prior to glaze and firing so its a mfg default. Its the way it was made, not at all noticable(I felt it before I saw it) but please see picture for reference. The small crack/chip is filled with glaze and is nice and smooth. Measures 18.5" tall with lid on. Top rim measures almost 10" across. Bottom measures 10.25" across. The middle is a bit wider than both top and bottom but difficult to get accurate dimention. Handle to handle is 13" I took pictures outdoors. Just want to be sure you get to see accurate pictures and colors. Also the 41" dash has a crack in the bottom portion of the wood handle. Would not be seen when inside churn. Churn alone weighs 26lbs. It will be shipped carefully with foam ect and have listed it at 30lbs for packing/box weight. The dash will have to be shipped separate and would be around $15.00 extra. I will refund any shipping costs over my cost for materials. I get boxes free, but nothing else. Ruckel's Pottery was popular at the end of the 1800s and into the early part of the 1900s. It is in great condition and very clean. It measures 9.5" tall and 9.5" in diameter. Vintage Stoneware Three Pound Salt Glaze Butter Crock
For your cosideration is a salt glazed butter crock of the three pound size. This crock does not have a manufacturer's mark on it. In 1894 a few of the stoneware manufacturer's started using white glaze instead of salt glaze; by 1902 salt glaze was a thing of the past. Salt glaze was made by shoveling salt into a kiln of unglazed stoneware when the temperature is well above 2000 degrees Farenhiet and the salt vapors adhere to the unglazed stoneware. Albany slip glaze was used on the inside of the container. Because with the container upside down on another container, salt vapors could not reach the inside of the container. This butter crock is slightly more than 4" tall and the bottom is approximately 5 3/4" in diameter. This butter crock has 0 cracks, however where the sides meet the bottom is a small chip; this chip is ... morebarely visible when the butter crock is placed on a level, smooth and firm surface. The Albany slip interior is flaked off in places, but most of the light colored places in the picture are from 0 or little glaze applied. Vintage Antique Lambrecht Butter Crock Stoneware Dairy Advertising
Crocks were originally used for storing foods and were once the backbone of a winter food supply for our ancestors. Large ones were used for brining and curing meat after butchering. Food could be kept cold for 60 days in a crock. This small crock was for Lambrecht Butter. Famous For The Flavor. Measures 5 1/2" across the top and 3" tall. Marked on bottom C 1 1/2, likely 1 1/2 pounds of butter. Hairline noted and small chip at base. Otherwise great antique!

up for bid is this neat stoneware butter crock. It is 3 3/4 inches tall. 5 1/2 inches across. It has neat rounded interior and is 3 1/2 inches deep. It has a nice rounded lip going around the top edge. The bottom is marked with the numbers C-2. It does have 3 chips around the bottom section. This crock has a different apperance as far as its molding goes, it has a really wavy appearanceto the way it was molded which leads me to believe it is really an old piece. I can find no imperfections in this early piece apart from the fact that there is no bale it is in pristine condition. It has the American Indian Swastika decoration on both the lid and the base. Cracks, repairs or breaks The lids are removable- has no chips. Cracks, or breaks in them. Two small stains on underside of the tan crock lid and discolor on inside of tan crock. The Wire handles and latch to keep lid secured are intact and operational. The Blue/White crock rubber seal is not the greatest and lid slides forward some. I am including both rubber seals.
