Exceptional quality. Small alkaline or salt glazed, primitive antique crock. 6 1/4 inches high, about 3 inch top diameter, about 4 1/4 inch bottom diameter. Looks to be just under 5 inches around(diameter) in the middle. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots ... morearound the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Please ask questions before bidding. Shipping to Lower 48 States only. No international sales. Payment due within 3 days of auction end. If you have a feedback score of 10 or less, you must contact me before bidding. In"as found" condition- this item is vintage, and not new. Photos are as important as my written description. Please review all the photos carefully, including at close-up magnification.

Antique Lord Stoutenburg & Co. Chicago Illinois Stoneware Salt Glazed Crock IL
This is an Antique Lord Stoutenburg& Co. Chicago Stoneware Crock. This is a cool old crock and it really shows it's age. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any information on this company. I did find a bunch of Stoutenburg genealogy information but nothing that led to this business. There are a couple of hairline cracks and one major repair to this crock so please inspect the pictures very carefully. It has a couple of minor chips out of the top lip. It is quite obvious this crock will not hold liquids and cannot be used for canning or sauerkraut but for a collector, it would be a great find as I have yet to see another like it. It measures 10 1/4" tall x 5" in diameter at the top x 6 1/2" in diameter at the base. Thanks for looking! Questions welcome. ANTIQUE~LG. Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug w/Cobalt Stripes
This large. Heavy antique salt-glazed stoneware jug with a corncob stopper is a throwback to moonshine days and Prohibition, and a great slice of American history! VTG 1910s 1920s Primitive Salt Glazed Stoneware Crock Bucket Cincinnati Ohio
Very interesting salt glazed heavy bucket. Found at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati. Ohio when working on recent renovations. This bucket was black with oil and dust. It was found in the mechanical room where it was used to refill the oilers. It took some doing, but we were able to cut the grime. As you can see, the bucket is in fantastic condition. We estimate its age to be 1910s/1920s era or possibly earlier(the theatre was built in the early 20s and this bucket has been there since that time) The edge has a small lip that comes off of it. There is a tight crack along one side which is typical of this type of crockery. Also some glaze slips- also typical. No maker's marks on the piece. Very nice primitive item. Stands 7 1/4" tall with a 7.5" measurement across at the top and 5" across at the bottom. Wonderful piece of ... morehistory! ANTIQUE 19THC ENGLISH STONEWARE LUSTRE GLAZED STONEWARE POTTERY CROCK JAR JUG
WHAT A CROCK OF. Gooseberry Preserves. Lemon Curd, or perhaps Clotted Cream, Dear Collectors, this is a genuine 19th c antique English lustre glazed Preserve Stoneware Crock Jar peculiar to those made across the big pond for food preservation of yesteryear in the British Isles. Every respectable farmstead would sport several in the kitchen and buttery/pantry for daily use and storage of preserved foodstuffs well before the days of modern refrigeration made these charming sturdy stoneware vessels outmoded and relegated to collector status. Quite similar to American Albany slip brown glaze. The exterior of crock is covered lavishly in pearl brown lustre wash glaze giving it a soft lustre reflective pearl shine with life that dances off the surface at all angles. It features twin lug handles at upper side to aid gripping crock during cooking ... morewith a decorative stamped incised single beaded ring running around the upper middle kissing lower handle extensions. It has a most gentle chamfered base bevel, then the bottom is simply unglazed stoneware clay patina. A thick well formed rim likely once had a lid no longer present, but no matter, clean sage gray green glazed interior is happy to hold your wooden spoons and kitchen utensils in period style. Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. It is in sound fine condition with no damage, no chips, no hairlines. nothing beyond the the usual firing scratch in the making or tiny rough clay blob on rim glazed over. I know this is English having travelled to the UK buying fields myself seeing these on offer occasionally, and this lovely example was deacessioned last week from a retired English Dealer in Gettysburg, PA who purchased it

Venetian Wet Drug Jar tin-glazed stoneware majolica circa 1560-70 Italian
This item is a Venetian Wet Drug jar. A very large one in ovoid form and maybe unique with the seamonster handles. The bad news is the loss of the glaze on the most decorative part of it, which would be the bare-breasted mermaids or female figures that form side A. I have come to believe that this happened due to actual use of this as a working jar. It is 16 inches high and weighs 12 pounds empty and I believe what they did when pouring was to stand it up and roll it on itself to pour into the receiving vessel, and mostly faced the mermaids against the wall so they would be seen by the customer. This would have loosened up the glaze over time and then the owners before me wiped it as if it were glass thereby causing the loss and explaining why that area does not look too aged as opposed to the other more common areas of loss such as the foot ... moreor the lip where the exposed areas have aged nicely. This is why when you buy contemporary tin-glazed stoneware it says not to be used for eating. The good news is that this is a very large and unusual example, because it does have the bare-breasted women, and dolphins and opposing lions and dolphins and a cherub in a medallion. I assume it has royal symbolism, which could be another reason it faced the wall after a change of government. In any case it is a nice decoration to have on one of these. The B side is a stylized floral design, which is also nice. For those of you less familiar with early maiolica, they were not as concerned as modern folks with both sides being the same or having the same pattern. What is really great about this one is the seamonster handles. I am not a absolute pottery expert but I know more than most and I can't remember seeing this on any other jar. In fact the form and size makes it rare. I have included some some pictures from an auction catalogue date friday, may 20 1988, and they had a very similiar in size and shape jar, but with different painted decoration and without handles. The jar in the catalogue is described as 15 inches high and

Blue & White Salt Glazed Stoneware BlueBird Mug...Rare
This is one of the cutest small pieces of blue and white stoneware I have ever owned. At one point I acutally had three of these and this is the last one available for sale. It has been in my collection for over 34 years. It is in very good shape and is sound with no chips. It does have a small hairline up by the top of the handle. It appears to be from a spot in the clay that might have happened during firing of the glaze. Normal age and craze lines in surface. Color is very nice and the detail of the bird is excellent. Measure right at 4" tall

It is in very good condition. There is one small chip at the base. Almost invisible unless turned upside down. There is an interesting effect on one side where it looks like the glazing was applied unevenly. With some of the stoneware surface still showing through. There is no lid.
