Beautiful, Antique, Stoneware Crock with Bail Wire Handle & Original Lid
This auction offers a wonderful antique stoneware crock with a bail wire handle and it's original lid. Overall the crock is in great conditon for it;s age. There are some flaws such as a small chip on the top rim of the crock. And inner rim of the lid. Ware along the top rim of the lid and handle. A small crack on the side of the crock. We have pictured all of these flaws, so please look at the photos before bidding. All and all this antique is in great condition. It is approx. 11" high from the top of the handle to the bottom. The diameter is 6" at the top and 7 1/2" at the bottom. The crock is approx. 7" deep. This crock would make a great addition to any stoneware collection, or as a decorative item in a country kitchen. The bottom white part has a mottled finished, which I do not know much about- is it designed that way or are they flaws? Still, this piece has a lot of character. Lid fits nicely. Up for sale is an Antique whiskey? apple cider Jug/ Crock Jug. It measures 9" tall by 7 1/2" wide by itself. Its 12 1/2" tall with the handle up. This is a great looking jug but it does have a few issues. there is the chip on the lip of the spout, it only shows on the one side you can spin it around for display and it does not show. Antique Pottery Ceramic Crock Teapot Pitcher with Spout and Handle
An Estate Sale acquisition: Ceramic pot with pouring spout and handle. There is a makers mark on the end of the handle. But I'm unable to determine what it says. Measurements: 5 3/4" high. Mouth is approx. 4" across at the inside, and crock at the widest point is approx. 6 1/2" Crock does not have any chips. No visible cracks from use, and is sold as found. Could use a good cleaning. The top ri. Is a solid blue and has a nice design on the bottom edge. The maker is unknown but the blue marks on the inside near the top were probably their marks. There are a couple chips on the top edge but they have been there awhile as they are very smooth and the one seems to have some ... moreglaze in it also. The biggest flaw is a crack in the bottom of the bowl going about 1/4 of the way around the bottom. This crack can also be seen on the outside(in pic) This is a great old piece of history and would have great visual appeal for a collection. It's unmarked and I believe very old; from the mid to late 1800's(purchased from a local dealer) It has a rough(concave) bisque bottom and some glaze infractions, but is without chips or hairlines. Weight is slightly over 2 pounds, and the crock measures 6-1/4" height with a base diameter of 4-9/16" by 4-1/2" and the ovoid top is 5-1/2" diameter by 4-3/4" diameter. Tonight's Auction is for a Redware Ovoid Type Crock with a handle and about 5 3\4 inches high. About 6 1\4 inches wide top to the outside and about 4 1\4 inches wide on the base. Crock originates in Pennsylvania area, made in the late 1800's mostly to hold apple butter and had inside glazes.It tapers in on the outside from the lip about an inch down and has a groove there all around horizontally. It's in very good condition totally with only two tiny nicks on the outside top lip,and several wear spots inside near base which is typical for redware insides,just so you know, no surprises. It measures 8" tall. 5' opening.6" total diameter of top opening.Excluding the handle, the circumference is 28"The handle is another 9" long and is 2 1/2 inches from the crock.There are no chips or crazing on this crock. It can both serve as a jug or a storage crock.It weighs about 6 1/2 lbs as is before packaging. I have had it now for well over 10 years and it was originally purchased in upstate NY at a tag sale. I. Literally, tripped over this crock jug, while hunting, in S.C. It was buried under pine straw and I cleaned it up, best I could. It has a Heart, with#2 on one side, and that's all the markings I see. It's about 14 in. tall, and the handle is broken off. One Gallon Ovoid Crock. Ear handles, 9 1/2" H on a 5 1/4" base D. Dark cobalt at the handle base connections. Incised bands. In 1823 the pottery business owned by William(W. States on pottery) was taken over by Ichobod States and Joshua Swan. Financial problems ended their pottery production in 1834. But by then the mark" Swan& States" Stonington" was familiar all the along the New England coast. Condition of this old crock is very good. Hardly ever see one with lids anymore. The spout has some chips that almost look like glaze misses. The top is a slightly different color but could have been glazed at a different time. Nice etched design on it but unmarked. Almost 11" tall with lid. I thought I took a picture with the lid, will have to add it later. Grrr. old age strikes again! PLEASE SEE MY PHOTOS.
