We can't recall seeing this very charming mark before, and can't seem to find any record of stoneware being sold with this mark, so we're guessing it's at least very scarce if not quite rare. Probably dates to the late 1800's, we're also guessing. We're also not sure, but believe this is either from Mansfield, Ohio or Mansfield, Massachusetts. We invite emails with further information that we can add to this listing. Nicely decorated with a cobalt feather like design below the cobalt washed merchant stamp. And a stamped"2" for a 2 gallon crock above it. Measures about 8 and 3/4 inches tall and 9 and ... more1/2 inches across. There is a crack that begins at the top edge left of the decoration and ends on the base as can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, it appears to be in surprisingly good shape. The only other flaws are in the making glaze pops as can be seen in the photos, one just above the g in general(with a bit of cobalt glaze over it) and then there's one on the interior and two on the back side(each about 1/4 inch across) and some minor imperfections, scratches and wear as to be expected with a utilitarian stoneware piece. We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Flower Design 2 Gallon Ovoid Crock. This crock is in Excellent Condition with a few spider cracks on the base with 2 going through to the inside. 3 of them extend up the outside bottom of the crock. There are minor shallow chips to the upper rim. Both outside and inside. The crock is 100% structually sound, it rings true when you tap it and holds water no leaks. No other issues at all. The crock measures 12" tall x 10" wide x 8" at the mouth x 6 1/4" at the base and weighs approximately 10lb 10oz. The crock has an incised 2 below the one handle. Thank you for your interest in our auction of an ANTIQUE BLUE DECORATED. HANDLED, STONEWARE CROCK BY F. H. COWDEN OF HARRISBURG, PA. VINTAGE 1881-1888. This is a used item, that has been in my family from the beginning, in the 1880s, passed down from my great grandmother. It is still in fine condition. There are no cracks any where on it. There are two points on the bottom of the crock that my be chips out of it, or it may be that they were manufacturing flaws, but in any case, as can be seen in our photos, they are insignificant faults, and would have no effect on the use of the crock. What's more, they are on the bottom of the crock, where they wouldn't even be seen in normal usage. This wonderful antique crock comes to you in the highly collectible three gallon size. A size with great appeal to collectors as it will display just about anywhere. The interior is lined with a typical chocolate brown Albany Slip. Condition: Excellent for a crock over 150 years old. The only distraction are three exterior flake type chips at the back of the rim and one large at the inside rea of the rim along with some tiny nicks along the rim edge. This is a lovely large salt glaze crock with a beautiful large cobalt blue bird standing on a branch in the front. The blue design is 9 3/4" long X 6 1/2" high. Each side has the applied ear handles. Which are in excellent condition. This is a very decorative collectible crock. The bird design is eye-catching. Markings: Huxstun Ottman& Co. Fort Edward. NY 4(4 gallon) Circa: 1867- 1872. Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 3/4" in diameter at the rim. Base is 11 1/2" in diameter. Condition: Very clean inside and sturdy but there is a tight hairline that runs half way down the back and into the base. Shown in picture 6& 7 as well as the last two pictures. It has not broken through to the surface. The stoneware is still very intact. There are small divits in the stone, but they have not broken through to the inside. 1986 Signed "Pennsylvania" Blue & White Decorated Pottery Crock- 6 1/4 x 5 1/2"
This crock is signed with a script signature on the bottom that I can't make out but it is dated 1986. Great grey speckled pottery with a single blue band and the top and what looks like a pumpkin( on the front. Also. At the bottom edge there is a symbol of some kind that may mean something. Excellent shape it measures 6 1/4" across the top and is 5 1/2" tall. Great shape with no chips or cracks. Antique Cobalt Blue Salt Glaze Stylized Swirly 3 Gallon Decorated Crock
Up for auction is an Antique Stoneware Salt Glaze Decorated Cobalt Blue Stylized Swirly 3 Gallon Crock. Circa: 1880's. The large blue Stylized Swirly 3 decoration is lovely. The decoration is 3" long X 2" wide. This 3 Gallon crock is tan with dark specks in the glaze. Measurements: 10 3/4" tall. 10 1/2" in diameter at the top rim. About 10 1/2" in diameter at the base. 3 Gallon crock. Condition: No chips or hairlines. Nice ring when tapped! Clean inside but there are flakes in the glaze and what feels like sand on parts of the glaze inside. See last 4 pictures. The last two pictures were taken with a flash. The outside has spots of red paint on the side with the extra manufacturing drips of glaze on the handle, shown in picture 7& 8. Applied handles are in very good condition. This is a gorgeous crock to use ... morefor display. The Stylized Swirly 3 decoration is a nice size and has a lovely blue color. Shown in the second picture.
