This is a very old and primitive-looking(not perfectly round. But slightly oblong in shape and the clay is slightly lumpy) 19th century 3 gallon salt ... moreglazed crock with bold cobalt leaf designs. It is sturdy, solid, and has a molded handle both sides. Due to age, the color of the clay has a slightly patchy appearance from discoloration. One of the handles has a few small flakes, but there are no other chips on the crock. There are three short cracks on the top edge that don't go all the way through the clay and look like they might be splits from firing. One very fine unnoticeable hairline on the top edge is slightly visible inside and out and is probably a true hairline from damage, but it is very difficult to see. All cracks are shown in the photos. There are two yellow streaks in the glaze on the front, also shown in the photos. They are part of the glaze and happened during manufacture. The crock measures 11" in diameter x 10 3/4" H. It will be packed securely in a double box and insured during shipping.

Brown with Cobalt Blue Bird Salt Glazed Stoneware Honey Jar Honey Crock
Salt Glazed Pottery Jar/Crock/Cup This is such a cute miniature like piece. I did the best I could to research it but there was nothing to go by. It does remind me of a Rowe Pottery piece? There are no markings on this item. I believe it is salt glazed and features a cobalt blue bird. I took several pics of the front of this as it was hard to get a good picture. My guess would be that it was an egg cup or a honey jar/honey crock. It is in near mint shape. 3cm tall with a 4cm diameter* weighs 35g* Please message via ebay questions about item/shipping PRIOR to bidding*
H. GILBERT, GENERAL MERCHANT, MANSFIELD Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Crock
H. GILBERT. GENERAL MERCHANT, MANSFIELD" Cobalt Blue Decorated Stoneware Crock Up for sale is this very cool cobalt blue decorated stoneware crock. Marked"H. GILBERT, GENERAL MERCHANT, MANSFIELD. We can't recall seeing this very charming mark before, and can't seem to find any record of stoneware being sold with this mark, so we're guessing it's at least very scarce if not quite rare. Probably dates to the late 1800's, we're also guessing. We're also not sure, but believe this is either from Mansfield, Ohio or Mansfield, Massachusetts. We invite emails with further information that we can add to this listing. Nicely decorated with a cobalt feather like design below the cobalt washed merchant stamp. And a stamped"2" for a 2 gallon crock above it. Measures about 8 and 3/4 inches tall and 9 and ... more1/2 inches across. There is a crack that begins at the top edge left of the decoration and ends on the base as can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, it appears to be in surprisingly good shape. The only other flaws are in the making glaze pops as can be seen in the photos, one just above the g in general(with a bit of cobalt glaze over it) and then there's one on the interior and two on the back side(each about 1/4 inch across) and some minor imperfections, scratches and wear as to be expected with a utilitarian stoneware piece. Please see photos, and let us know if you need more or need more information. Displays wonderfully! We're offering this beautiful piece of stoneware with a starting bid of only $1.00. Antique Stoneware: XL 6Gal. Crock w/ Detailed Cobalt Bird, Upstate NY, ca.1870
A rare 6-Gallon Salt-Glazed Crock from Upstate New York with monumental proportions; featuring an equally impressive Bird. Slip-trailed in very bold Cobalt. Lightly impressed below the rim: RIEDINGER& CAIRE, POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, with the capacity mark to the right. This stamp was used by Philip Riedinger and Adam Caire 1857-1878 in their well-respected Hudson Valley manufactory. These 6Gal. Birds are relatively scarce; their size and weight made them quite difficult to maneuver when full. This Crock, for example, would weigh nearly 70 lbs. with 24 quarts of liquid! Some imperfections to note: there are two hairlines that go through(one in front; one in back) The line on the lower front continues partially into the base(see close-up) this might lighten up with a good scrubbing. There are also some other"surface only" lines on the ... moreglaze surface. The rim has a two chips and some roughness; and there is glaze flaking near the left handle and the interior Albany Slip. See photos for complete details and further description. Measures 13-1/2"W x 12-3/4"H overall with a base diameter of 12-1/4" The inner and outer rim diameters are 11-1/4" and 12-3/4" respectively; 18.2 lbs. A very fine 2Gal. Storage Crock or Jar from Bennington. Vermont, ca.1860. The impressed stamp on the shoulder is Cobalt-Washed and reads: J. NORTON& CO. BENNINGTON, VT. This mark is extremely scarce. It dates to the 3-year period when Julius Norton and his son, Luman Preston(aka L.P. worked together from 1859-1861. When Julius died in 1861, the named changed to the more familiar E. L.P. NORTON. It is very bold, impressive and will not disappoint. Two firmly applied Lug Handles, and rich, brown Albany Slip interior. There is some minor discoloration on body, and a few small nicks, dings and stone pops; otherwise excellent. Offered for your bidding consideration is an antique stoneware crock. This piece was found in the cellar of a 1870's Stockton.
