Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Hand Turned Stoneware Salt Glaze Crock with a Lazy Eight over a Target Decor
For your consideration is a hand turned four gallon salt glaze crock with a hand drawn lazy eight over a target; this decor was hand drawn using the slip cup method. The"tail" of the target is very long and goes to the bottom. This crock has a single trim line; the trim line is slightly more than 3/4 of an inch below the rounded rim. This crock is approximately 12" tall and the bottom is approximately 11" in diameter. This crock has 0 cracks. However it does have a chip on the bottom, slightly left of the front center. Also, there are rough spots on each handle. On the interior, the Albany Slip glaze is missing because of air pockets expanding and bursting during firing. Antique Vintage Salt Glaze Brown Crock Jar 1 1/2 QT Wax Seal
Up for bid is a antique brown crock salt glaze jar used for vegetables or fruit. The lid was sealed to the jar with wax. Such jars date back to the 1200's however this one is probably from the 1800's. This jar is 1 1/2 qt. capacity. Stands 7" tall and is 3 1/2" across. You couldn't ask for a nicer piece for it's age as it has one small chip and wear along the rim and another chip on the side, each about 1/5" and some glaze is missing at the bottom, appears to be a manufacturing flaw. Otherwise there are no other cracks or other chips. This would be a great addition to a collection. Please take a minute and look at my other listings which are varied and different. Up for auction today is a rare Red Wing Salt Gla zed Crock 4 gallon Bee sting mark Absolutely wonderful for this p ie ce being over 100 years old. Made be tween 1877-1 897-has the bee sting or to rnado sty le mark with hand pressed or hand molded handles(elephant ear-I think is what they call that) Red Wing stop ped using the Salt Glaze Process in 1897. So this dates before that. One handle is broken-more like chipped- as shown in the pictures. Other than that. The molted or dimpled glazing is in g reat condition with some marks. As can be seen. There is a white mark that is shown in the pictures-th at is the remains of the sticker from the ant ique store we are closing. Easily can be removed. Other than the handle. Hand Turned Salt Glaze Red Wing Stoneware Crock with Hand Drawn Leaf
For your consideration is six gallon salt glaze crock that was manufactured in Red Wing. Minnesota during the 1880s or the early 1890s. This crock is hand turned and using the slip cup method, the potter(which was also an artist) drew the 6 and the leaf. This crock is approximately 14 1/2" tall and the bottom is approximately 12" in diameter. This crock has a minor chip, a hairline and is badly stained. The chip is on the left side and closer to the back than it is to the front. The hairline is on the right side, further back than the handle, but closer to the handle than the back; this hairline runs downward for approximately 5" The stains are everywhere. Old Antique Primitive Canning Crock Jar Stoneware Salt Glaze Crazing
HELLO and thanks for looking at our auction! Today we have an old antique crock that we think may have been a canning crock many years ago. It looks like a date on the bottom but we can't quite make it out but we have taken pictures of it. It has lots of flaws and chips around the top and lots of staining and crazing. There is also a hairline crack in the top and we have tried to show it in the pictures. This old crock measures 6 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" across the bottom and 4 1/4" across the top. The rim is 1/2" thick around the top and it is very heavy. It weighs 3 1/2 pounds. It is missing the bale but the holes for the bale are still intact. It is also missing the lid. This old Crock is still very pretty even with all the chips. Stains and flaws. It has lots of crazing all over the outside and inside, and would look ... moregood with the old primitives collection. For your consideration is a salt glazed six gallon crock. I am not sure what company manufactured this crock. However there are some clues that could help: It is yellow(or at least I think it would be if properly cleaned) The 6 and th decor around it were stenciled on. The decor around the 6 has an outside diameter of approximately 2" The crock is hand turned. There is a sigle trim line, running not more than 1/8 of inch below the rounded rim and another single trim line approximately 1 1/4" below the rim. This crock stands approximately 13 1/2" tall and the bottom is approximately 12" in diameter. This crock is very stable, but has the following imperfections: In the front and running downward into the decor circle, is a very tight hairline approximately 4" long. Closer to the right handle, than the front is a three ... morehailine"crow's foot" each of the three hairlines are between 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" long and all three are very tight. On each handle, are minor to insignifcant chips. On the backsideare some places where the glaze is missing. This crock is basically in"as found condition; all I did was wipe the dust off. Has cobalt design depicting what I think is either a bee sting or hummingbird and the number 4 for it's 4 gallon size.Measures 14 1/2 inches tall and is 9 inches wide at widest. Opening is 4 3/4 inches in diameter. Very heavy.almost 20 pounds. Has no cracks! Some age-related usage staining and just one chip to top outer rim edge as shown in pictures. Very nice! Antique Blue White Salt Glaze Stoneware Large Milk Crock Bail Bowl RARE! Minty!
In the years that I have owned this bowl I have never seen another one. The best I can tell from my internet research and consulting the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This is an Apple Blossom on diamond waffle patterned salt glazed stoneware milk crock. It is missing the bail. Aside from that, this piece is near mint. There is a imperfection in one of the bail ears that appears it may have occurred during the firing process because it looks glazed over. No other cracks, no chips. It measures 10" across(or just under 11.5" from bail ear to ear) 5" high and 6" wide across the base. Milk crocks this size in other patterns are in the book. The molding on this is very sharp and crisp. The apple blossom on diamond waffle is shown on other pieces such as butter and salt crocks, however I cannot find this ... morepattern on this bowl anywhere. For you consideration is a ten gallon hand turned salt glaze crock that was manufactured by Macomb Pottery of Macomb. Illinois. This company was incorporated in 1880; on April 10, 1906, the paperwork was signed to sell this company to A.D. Philpot of Chicago, so the manufacturing facility could beome Plant 4 of Western Stoneware. This crock was manufactured during the 1880s or 1890s. The words MACOMB POTTERY MACOMB ILL. the 10 and the decorations, are blue and were applied with a stencil before firing. All writing and decorations are permanent and cannot be washed or scraped off. There is a single trim line approximately 1 3/4" below the rim. This crock is approximately 16 1/4" tall and the bottom is approximately 14 1/4" in diameter. On the rim are two minor insignificant chips. Running down the front, from top to bottom is ... morea major crack; at the rim, this crack is quite wide and at the bottom is very tight. At different places, are offshoots or tributary cracks. Offering antique 19th century large covered stoneware salt glaze butter crock with mold fruit and floral decoration on the body of the crock and the lid. The condition of the crock is excellent. The lid has one small flat flake on the ede only. The background of the surface has been decorated with molded wave pattern- see pictures. The name BUTTER is molded on the front of the crock.There is original metal wire handle. It is 6 3/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" deep. But I have been led to believe that stoneware pieces with upturned hand drawn leaves were manufactured by North Star Stoneware Company. This company was located in Red Wing. Minnesota and existed from 1892 to 1896. The 3 and the upturned leaf are hand drawn by the slip cup method and are in black. This crock has an Albany slip glaze on the interior. This crock has the"ear" type handles. This crock is approximately 10 1/4" tall and the bottom is approximately 9 5/8" in diameter. This crock has one minor chip on the interior of the rim; this chip is approximately 1/2 of an inch wide and less than 3/8 of an inch tall; this chip is approximately halfway between the side and the back. As identified in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt Glaze Stoneware. This auction is for a common pattern Daisy And Trellis Butter Holder. It measures 6" wide by 4.75 tall. Mint value $125- $175. There are six large daisies on a close trellis background. This is missing a lid and a bail which it held at one time. Bail holes for this mold were not made to go through to the interior. There is one fine hairline crack on the interior of bail hole placement that extends from top down approx 2.75" it is not visible on outside surface. This auction is for a Fantastic Antique Robin's Egg Blue Salt Glaze Butter Crock with its original lid. The crock has a neat block shaped pattern around the top and bottom and is beautifully colored in a Soft Blue Salt Glaze. The crock has two side holes for a handle. Both the lid and the crock are in very good condition. Especially considering their age. There are no chips or cracks. Which is rare for crockery of this era. There are several condition issues from th e manufacturing process. Such as glaze drips and roughness around the edges. There is also a firing line around the lid handle(see last photo) It is not a crack as it doesn't go through to the other side. This is a wonderful small salt glaze crock surrounded by hearts. There are 5 large blue hearts in total. The crock is a great size measuring 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" The crock has the name Ellis indented on the bottom. I bought it in the 1970's. It has never been used and has been in a display cabinet behind glass. There are no chips. Cracks or breaks in this salt glaze. Would make a great crock for dips or other snack foods. Vintage Stoneware Three Pound Salt Glaze Butter Crock
For your cosideration is a salt glazed butter crock of the three pound size. This crock does not have a manufacturer's mark on it. In 1894 a few of the stoneware manufacturer's started using white glaze instead of salt glaze; by 1902 salt glaze was a thing of the past. Salt glaze was made by shoveling salt into a kiln of unglazed stoneware when the temperature is well above 2000 degrees Farenhiet and the salt vapors adhere to the unglazed stoneware. Albany slip glaze was used on the inside of the container. Because with the container upside down on another container, salt vapors could not reach the inside of the container. This butter crock is slightly more than 4" tall and the bottom is approximately 5 3/4" in diameter. This butter crock has 0 cracks, however where the sides meet the bottom is a small chip; this chip is ... morebarely visible when the butter crock is placed on a level, smooth and firm surface. The Albany slip interior is flaked off in places, but most of the light colored places in the picture are from 0 or little glaze applied. Bottom Marked Red Wing Stoneware Salt Glaze Crock with Hand Drawn Target
For your consideration is a bottom marked two gallon Red Wing Stoneware salt glaze crock made in Red Wing. Minnesota. This decoration was hand drawn on stoneware pieces during the 1890s. Red Wing Stoneware ceased using salt glaze in 1895-1896, which means this crock was manufactured during the early or middle 1890s. This crock is almost 10" tall and the bottom is slightly over 9" in diameter. This crock has an X shaped very tight hairline, this hairline is on the left side and the center of the X is approximately 3 1/2" above the bottom; these hairlines are very tight and the longest of the two lines is approximately 4 1/2" long and I can see neither hairline can be seen on the inside. Around the bottom are some chips; these chips are all pictured in at least one picture. Hand Decorated Red Wing Stoneware Salt Glaze Crock w/ Kiln Stacking Marks
For your consideration is a two gallon crock with a salt glaze exterior and Albany slip glaze on the interior. This crock was made by either Red Wing Stoneware or Minnesota Stoneware. Both companies were located in Red Wing. Minnesota and they used the same designs often. The two companies merged in 1906, but that was 10-16 years after this crock was made. The 2 and the target were both hand drawn with a slip cup; a slip cup is like a squeeze bottle that will not squeeze. On the bottom of this crock are marks that show it was placed atop smaller items while being fired. This crock is almost 9 3/4" tall and the bottom is 9" in diameter. This crock has 0 cracks, however it does have three chips around the edge of the bottom; two of the chips are quite large and one is very small. On the interior, is a white substance that I have not identified. This 2 gallon crock measures 8¾" in diameter and is 9" high. Overall Condition is Excellent. Dark brown interior is clean. No cracks. Difficult to tell from the pictures. But crock has beautiful glaze, very shiny. There is a very tight crack along the rim that follows down the side 1½" Also another tiny crack near one side of one handle. Please see close-up photos. Be aware that cracks appear much more pronounced in the closeup than actual. No other cracks. No chips noted with magnifier. This will be very well-packaged with packing peanuts and bubble wrap. Antique Butter Crock Blue & White Salt Glaze Pottery; 1890's
Up for bid is a salt glaze blue and white pottery butter crock. It was made during the 1890's. Most probably in Ohio. It is missing the wire bale, but there is a vintage turned wooden handle that we will provide if you want it. The pottery is in excellent condition, there is an expansion crack on the surface near the knob that occurred when it was made. The design has an American eagle and shield. It is 4 3/4 inches tall and 6 3/4 inches across.
