Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots around the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. The Wing ... moreon this crock is much larger and brighter than I have seen on many crocks. Beautiful. The crock itself is very clean and in wonderful condition especially for being almost 100 years old. It is dated by the right handle. Patented, Dec. 21st, 1915. There are 2 cracks on the inside bottom that are about 3/4 of an inch long if that. One, a surface scratch and the other is a bit bigger. There is one turkey track on the back. There are some surface cracks around the crock, nothing serious at all. The Salt Glazed Lid has a light#10 on the top of one of the petals. It has some surface cracks on it, again nothing serious. It also has a few turkey tracks. The crock has one 1/2" chip on the bottom edge and the lid has one chip the same size approx. on the round lip underneath the lid. This crock is wonderful. I am maybe being to cautious about the details. It is 16& 1/2"s tall and approx. 16"s wide across the top. I also have a#12 and#8 crock listed. Please pay within 3 Days of the Ending Date of Auction. If you need more time just let me know. I am very flexible. I prefer payment through paypal, however if you need another method of payment let me know and we will see what we can do for you. Antique New York Stoneware Blue Flower Salt Glazed 4 Gallon Stoneware Crock
Up for auction is an Antique New York Stoneware Deep Blue Flower Design 4 Gallon Crock. The New York Stoneware Co and the number 4 is impressed. The flower design is a very dark cobalt blue. Each side has an applied elephant ear handle. Circa: 1859- 1885. Fort Edward. NY) Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 1/2" in diameter at the top. Base 11" in diameter. Floral decoration is about 5" wide X 6" tall. The blue floral decoration has dots and circles. Condition: This crock is being sold AS IS. This is a solid crock but it has issues. Large Blue decoration has excellent dark cobalt blue color but has a chip at the top branch. Shown in picture 2. There is a large chip at the rim above the ear handle, picture 8. The same ear handle has a chip underneath the handle, shown in the same picture. On the outside, there is a spider ... morehairline that starts on the bottom and runs up the side, see close-up picture in picture 5, 10& 11. I would not trust this crock to hold water. There is one small chip in the dark brown glaze on the inside, last picture. Picture 5 shows a raised dark spot on the outside which appears to be from the manufacturing process. See all pictures. There are no markings on this item. I believe it is salt glazed and features a cobalt blue bird. Exceptional quality. Small alkaline or salt glazed, primitive antique crock. 6 1/4 inches high, about 3 inch top diameter, about 4 1/4 inch bottom diameter. Looks to be just under 5 inches around(diameter) in the middle. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots ... morearound the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. This is an Antique Lord Stoutenburg& Co. Chicago Stoneware Crock. This is a cool old crock and it really shows it's age. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any information on this company. I did find a bunch of Stoutenburg genealogy information but nothing that led to this business. There are a couple of hairline cracks and one major repair to this crock so please inspect the pictures very carefully. It has a couple of minor chips out of the top lip. It is quite obvious this crock will not hold liquids and cannot be used for canning or sauerkraut but for a collector, it would be a great find as I have yet to see another like it. It holds one gallon filled to its brim and measures approximately 9 3/4" high. 6 1/4" wide at the bottom& 5 1/2" wide at the top. The opening is 4" wide and it has a tapered neck. The glazing on this crock is in beautiful condition, inside and out. The crock has no markings on it but I suspect it was made locally as S.E. Ohio was/is well known for its good clay soils for producing pottery, ceramics& glass. Within one half hour of where I live is where the homes of such companies as Roseville Pottery, Hull Pottery, Hall Pottery, Anchor-Hocking Glass, Hocking Glass, Fenton, McCoy Pottery, etc. were located. VTG 1910s 1920s Primitive Salt Glazed Stoneware Crock Bucket Cincinnati Ohio
Very interesting salt glazed heavy bucket. Found at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati. Ohio when working on recent renovations. This bucket was black with oil and dust. It was found in the mechanical room where it was used to refill the oilers. It took some doing, but we were able to cut the grime. As you can see, the bucket is in fantastic condition. We estimate its age to be 1910s/1920s era or possibly earlier(the theatre was built in the early 20s and this bucket has been there since that time) The edge has a small lip that comes off of it. There is a tight crack along one side which is typical of this type of crockery. Also some glaze slips- also typical. No maker's marks on the piece. Very nice primitive item. Stands 7 1/4" tall with a 7.5" measurement across at the top and 5" across at the bottom. Wonderful piece of ... morehistory! Rare Primitive Stamped 3 Gallon Crock Antique Salt Glazed Crock W Cobalt -Fisher
Unique hand painted three gallon salt glazed crock with beautiful cobalt blue markings. This is one from my personal collection that I need to whittle down a little bit. Its absolutely beautiful! The cobalt blue flower and number three richly stand out. The front of the crock is STAMPED"J FISHER LYONS NY" and was made sometime between 1872 and 1902. It measures 9 3/4" tall and 11" wide not including the handles. There are two cracks on the back that are pictured. Since they are on the back they do not affect the ability to display this piece. Due to age and use there are some imperfections. There is a good sized chip on the outside, top, edge(picture 5) chip with a hairline crack top edge(pictures 6) and a small chip on the inside edge(picture 7) There are also a hairline crack in the body of the crock(picture 3) and a small chip where the handle inserts(picture 4) The crock also has some crazing. This auction is for a very rare 1 1/2 gallon salt glaize crock that has many production defects and a very unusual size making this crock a great addition to any collection. The crock displays very nicely. Then you look at it with a close examining eye you start to notice the manufactoring errors. The top or mouth measures 7 1/2" across on direction and 8" across in the opposite E-W N-S. The pattern lines around the top are not complete all the way around the crock. It is whitewashed on the inside and the outside has mineral deposits. Probably caused by water and weathering. The glaze is good though. There is no reserve on this antique salt glazed crock. We are featuring. At auction, this one gallon sized wax sealer crock. There is a narrow neck with the wax seal closure and it is a really nice color. It has a salt glaze and is in excellent condition. There is one small chip on the lip and a couple normal small kiln pops on the side. On the bottom are some marks where the potter slid it across a kiln stand. But they are not cracks. We believe it is Pennsylvania origin. This is a really handsome crock and would be a nice addition to any collection. Please enjoy the photos; we think you will like what you see. Antique German Stoneware Salt Glazed Mustard Pot 19th-20th Century Crock
This is a late 19th- early 20th century salt glazed mustard pot made in Germany. Bears the Matthias Girmscheid mark on the bottom. Looks like a mini stein but the pewter lid has a small cutout for a spoon to protrude and there is no capacity mark as you would see on a stein. Stands 4" high to the top of the lid. 4 5/8" to the top of the thumblift) and 3" wide including the handle. I've included a picture of it next a can of soda for size reference. Bears three cartouches featuring a cross. An anchor and a heart, a common symbology in Victorian times. The cross represents faith. For Sale is a RARE Vintage DONAGHHO CO WEST VIRGINIA CROCK. It has a few chips in the glaze and a few hairline cracks in the Glaze. They are not through the crock and is a very old crock and rare to have the Co after the Donaghho logo. Nice Rim top with no chips and solid on the inside. Antique Primitive Salt Glazed Crock Dark Clay Redware? Stoneware
This is an Antique crock in good condition. Good primitive condition and glaze. The base clay is a dark color, perhaps Redware, but I'm no expert. The biggest issue with this piece is some unusual stones and lack thereof on the bottom. The chips on the bottom appear to be pre-firing clay loss. See photos for yourself. This weighs over 6 pounds.
