Left to right as you are looking at them. 1 KNIFE for cheese cutting- 7" difficult to read mark but as best I can see'epns' there are small symbols in front and underneath I believe it is"England" 2 SPOONS- just over 6.5" mark- 2 circles. One with'JB' and the other'S' epns' made in England' these sweet spoons have cute etching on the border of the bowl of the spoons, 1 SPOON- just under 6.5" same marks as the other spoons with some etching also. The band is not the same as the other 2 spoons, 1 KNIFE for spreading- 3/4" with nice decorative etching onthe one side of the knife- the other side is plain- the top of the band which is very decoative dsays"sterling" I see no marker mark, 1 Fork(pickle or olives. Vintage Stoneware Six Gallon Salt Glaze Crock with Stenciled 6 and Decor
For your consideration is a salt glazed six gallon crock. I am not sure what company manufactured this crock. However there are some clues that could help: It is yellow(or at least I think it would be if properly cleaned) The 6 and th decor around it were stenciled on. The decor around the 6 has an outside diameter of approximately 2" The crock is hand turned. There is a sigle trim line, running not more than 1/8 of inch below the rounded rim and another single trim line approximately 1 1/4" below the rim. This crock stands approximately 13 1/2" tall and the bottom is approximately 12" in diameter. This crock is very stable, but has the following imperfections: In the front and running downward into the decor circle, is a very tight hairline approximately 4" long. Closer to the right handle, than the front is a three ... morehailine"crow's foot" each of the three hairlines are between 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" long and all three are very tight. On each handle, are minor to insignifcant chips. On the backsideare some places where the glaze is missing. This crock is basically in"as found condition; all I did was wipe the dust off. Up sale is a very nice vintage 6 gallon salt glaze hand turned crock stoneware. The inside has the brown slip interior, and the hand turned rigid( see picture) The croc k is in very good cond ition. Ther e are two very small chips on the inside top rim o f the crock( see picture) And one small chip on the outside bottom rim. On the left handle side( see picture) There are no cracks, the salt glaze clay is beautiful, the crock has elephant ear handles, and two incised lines going around the crock at the handles area( see picture) The design of the crock is just wonderful, it is a cobalt blue eagle with spreading wings, the wing spand is 8" long, the eagle is standing on a very nice cobalt blue design ... morewith the word E PLURIBUS UNUM, also in cobalt blue, this word is found on the back of a dollar bill, the word is Latin, the word mean"out of many" under the eagle design, at the bottom of the crock is more cobalt blue design, it is the number 6 the gallon of the crock, inside blue cobalt design very nice( see picture) It is nice to see a 6 gallon crock with the eagle design, usually find it in a 3, or 4 gallon size, the cobalt designs are ver y vi brant. It is almost"pretty" but it's not suppose to be. None of them were manufactured to be pretty and dainty. However. They truly are IMPRESSIVE pieces to own. When you own one of these, you own a part of history in America. You are almost like a museum owner, or a curator of time pieces on a small level. The factory workers smudged the brown glaze before putting it in the kiln. Milky" glaze covers lower half. PHOTO 3. The bottom is"unglazed" for traction purpose. Glaze is too slippery like glass. Bare stoneware won't slide. Notice the bottom is very solid. PHOTO 4. Here we see the inner covering of dark brown glaze. Easy to clean for re-use and it seals in the contents. Not like Gramma's china. But it works perfectly.

GREAT DISPLAY PIECE. NOT SUITABLE FOR FOOD BECAUSE OF A THIN"Y" SHAPED CRACK IN BOTTOM. It could possibly have another 1/2 moon shaped one on the bottom but it may just be the rustic coloring. Either way. The crack is directly on the bottom and does not show from anywhere. This belonged to my Husband's Mother(who married in 1918)She purchased it new, sometime before 1934. My husband who is now 84, remembers it from way back when he was a child. I think I remember her lining it with waxed paper and storing her home made cookies in it with a heavy plate on top.After 1953)She kept it in her bedroom closet) It has resided on the step of our enclosed patio in our smoke free home since 1987.THE PICTURES DO NOT SO IT JUSTICE, but as you can see, it has a 6 on it and has wonderful brown rustic color variations. It measures approx. 17" ... morex 10" My husband uses a shortened shovel handle as his walking stick and somehow,over the course of time, some one dropped the stick in there instead of placing it.I will try to get at least one better picture. Pottery has faded writing on the bottom from the previous owner. This may or may not bother you but it's there(see pictures) Churn is 6" tall and the mouth is about 3 5/8' There is a wooden dowel instead of the dasher. This darling churn is in excellent condition with no cracks. Crazing or chips. There are two manufactures defects one where the pottery popped during firing and a small rough rim spot along top edge. For auction I have an antique brown Crock lid. The lid is almost perfect condition with no cracks but one small chip. Only on the inside. You may see other imperfections but there from the factory. I dont know what pottery company made this lid because I can't find any markings. Possibly a red wing, fort dodge or western. As far as what size it fits i cant tell you for sure im guessing 6 8 10 or 12gal. Best thing to do is measure your crock then look at where I have my tape measure laid out on the lid and see if you get a close match. Long as its close it will most likely work for you. Lot of 6 Vintage Brown Cobalt Tan Stoneware Crocks With Lids Bails and Wires
Lot of 6 nice crocks- 2 are the darker brown approx. 5" x 6" one of them has a small chip on the top of the lid which I've shown in the pictures. 2 are cobalt blue approx. 4" x 5" I've shown how they close today with the seals- the seals seem dried so they do not seal well and shift to the side when you clamp the wire down- if you replace the seals I believe they'll be just fine. 1 dark brown approx. 4" x 5" and 1 tan approx. 4" x 4" Some have seals. Some do not(refer to the pictures) They seem in really nice condition please refer to the pictures.
