Slight underglaze darkening but glaze beautiful. gorgeous loop hangle with thumbrest. Lid immaculate. Hinge immaculate. Original gold lines on rails bordering collar almost completely cleaned off but an easy restoration. Magnificent the way it is. There seems to be the slightest rub of the lid on the backside shoulder edge and a nick. Perhaps but otherwise, near museum quality to me. The glaze on the top edge of the tankard looks poured on. Image 12 shows the depth of the glaze and crackling depth. Polychromic Hand colored transfer of a stylized water bird resembling a Great Blue Heron wading in flowered wetlands decorating each side of syrup body has great color and is in beautiful condition. Interesting thumb lever appears to be styled or formed as the back of a book and is serrated in a chevron on the thumb side for a sure grip while pouring. Stands 6 1/2" to the top edge of the slim tankard. And 8" to the finial on beautiful conical lid. Handsome slim tankard form with beautiful classic loop handle with great thumbrest. You will not find many of these around in this condition. Stamped"BENNETT'S/ JAN 23. 1873/ PATENT" I would be interested in the patented feature or innovation represented by that patent. Magnificent slim tapering form. Great loop handle, outstanding lid and outstanding condition make this one you will REALLY LIKE. We cleaned the exterior. Inside is very clean. This is a antique stoneware pottery lid for a crock which measures approx. 10 1/2" in diameter and is approx. 1.5" tall. The measurement underneath from the lid's rim at bottom which fits inside the crock measures from outside edge to opposite outside edge approx. 8.75" across. This antique stoneware lid has a lovely number"3" inscribed on center underneath lid on bottom which is in a hand-inscribed stylized'curly' font(see close-up pic included) The color is'mottled' meaning that there are other colors including black on its surface with a'striped' affect(see pics) The lid has its finial knob on top(see pics) which is undamaged. The lid is in very good ... moreperiod condition with no repairs and no cracks, it has some chips-there are no chips on finial knob, on the inside raised rim on top of lid there are only a few tiny minute flea bites or abrasions there(see pics) there are few chips on the surface of the sides of the inside bottom(underside) rim which do not go very deep(see pics) and last on the top of the outermost rim's edge there are 4 chips as shown in pics-please view this and all pics as to condition and color patterning. Ruckel's Stone Ware 2 Gallon Crock Up for your perusal is this antique Ruckel's Stoneware 2 gallon crock. It has a white glaze and stamped in cobalt blue'Ruckel's Stoneware' mark and'2' for 2 gallon size. Established in 1870 in White Hall Illinois. Ruckel's Pottery was popular at the end of the 1800s and into the early part of the 1900s. It is in great condition and very clean. It measures 9.5" tall and 9.5" in diameter. No glaze pops but there are a few chips on the bottom and a crack on the outer top(see pics) Normal wear from use. Age and storage. Found at an estate sale. Now is your chance to make a shrewd, discriminating purchase-most surviving examples of this type of liquor jug are much smaller than this example, or are priced in the $250 range- are usually shattered& found in pieces, during excavataions. Wheel-thrown pottery body with applied ring-finger handle. Most probably from the latter half of the 1800s. Overall measurements of about sixteen inches high& nine inches inches acrosss. No discernible hallmarks. But a good quality, utilitarian piece brought back from Maine, about three years ago. No cracks. Dings or bruises; very nice& clean& thoroughly presentable. It has a rich, dark brown glossy glaze with a silvery/green iridescence. The 1st and 2nd photos are the closest in color to the actual. The shot of the interior is not as dark as my photo. It is not marked. Size: 7 1/8"d X 5"h- approx. dimensions Quantity: 1- Crock Condition: VERY GOOD- no cracks but there are couple. Shallow chips on the top lip. One is just inside the lip, and the other is on the outside. Neither are bad(1/4"d) and they just add to it's primitive appeal. There are many tiny scratches in both the exterior and interior from years of use. The glaze is fabulous and there are bubbles, glaze pops, skipped glaze, and flakes- all factory flaws. This old crock holds one gallon and measures 8-1/2' tall with a diameter of 7" at the top and 5" at the bottom. The crock features a glazed interior. A 1/2" deep indented and slightly flared rim, and several incised decorations below the rim. Perhaps the best feature of this old crock is that it is in excellent condition with no cracks. This auction is for an Antique. Primitive, Blue& White Stoneware Butter Crock. The bottom half is white, while the top half and inside has a soft blue color. This is 5.75" diameter and 3.75" tall, making it very displayable on a country kitchen counter or step back cupboard shelf. The butter crock was the normal means of buying butter in the early 1900's. And this is one of the more decorative colors. This is near perfect no cracks. ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND PRIMITIVE FARMERS' KITCHEN LIDDED BROWN HANDMADE CLAY STONEWARE POTTERY ONE-HANDLE BEAN-POT CROCK. Old antique handmade farmers' clay stoneware pottery crock has its original lid. It is a one-handled bean pot from a New England farm, and was made that way-handle is undamaged. The clay pot has damage-it has a flattish chip along the side of the top edge(see pics) and it has a crack going vertically down one side which branches below it to a horizontal crack near bottom-I have included close-up pic and several other pics identifying this damage for your inspection, this crock is not vintage but is older and antique(please see pics and be aware of the damage-sold'as is' Perhaps this old bean pot could be re-purposed into another piece or for use in a rustic art project. Old Vintage Antique Primitive Pottery Crock Georgia Alabama Maybe Sand Mountain
We found this 5 gallon crock at the Summerville flea market recently. And were told it was bought at an estate sale in Whitwell, Tn, which is at the tail end of Sand Mountain just outside Alabama. It measures just under 16" high, and is in good condition with a couple nicks and chips around the upper rim, and that hairline crack that goes all the way around the rim base(not sure if it has been re-glued or not, as the crack is REAL tight, and its hard to tell) Otherwise terrific, and as the title implies, this piece has many of the attribute we associate with Sand Mountain pottery-the thumbprint handle, the smooth ground bottom, the salmony colored clay, and the handle being attached just short of the upper rim. There is a number 5 incised next to the handle, and oddly, a number 3 on the bottom. We have had a dozen or so SMP pieces over ... morethe years, and we think this one has a pretty decent chance of being the real deal. If you do NOT think so, please do not bombard our e-mail with your opinion, as even with the REAL pieces we have listed over the years, we get a dozen or so folks telling us we are wrong, and to take down the listing immediately(even on the $10K crock we sold on here about 6-7 years ago, which went on to sell for over $30K at a local auction house) Again, not to sound rude, but please do not send e-mails unless you are inquiring about something besides who made it.
