Antique Stoneware, Salt-Glazed Brown Crock, Catawba Valley, Carolina Primitive
Exceptional quality. Small alkaline or salt glazed, primitive antique crock. 6 1/4 inches high, about 3 inch top diameter, about 4 1/4 inch bottom diameter. Looks to be just under 5 inches around(diameter) in the middle. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots ... morearound the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. Antique primitive Vintage Dark Brown Crock Jar Wax Seal?
Antique dark brown crock jar used for vegetables or fruit. The lid was sealed to the jar with wax i believe. Such jars date back to the 1200's however this one is probably from the late 1800's- to the early 1900s. It is in very good condition considering it's age. The inside rim is rough and has small chips. As you can see in the picture. There is some discoloration at the bottom, appears to be a manufacturing flaw. Otherwise there are no other cracks, other chips and the glaze is in good condition. This would be a great addition to a collection. Pictures are part of description also. I will combine postage I have considerable inventory I need to consolidate and doesn't help that I keep adding to it. If you find something you like remember I will combine postage.

Please excuse flash on photos. See all specifics below. SPECIFICATIONS: Maker/Item Name/Pattern# za820) Information: This is a wonderful. Rustic old crock. It has a rich, dark brown glossy glaze with a silvery/green iridescence. The 1st and 2nd photos are the closest in color to the actual. The shot of the interior is not as dark as my photo. It is not marked. Size: 7 1/8"d X 5"h- approx. dimensions Quantity: 1- Crock Condition: VERY GOOD- no cracks but there are couple. Shallow chips on the top lip. One is just inside the lip, and the other is on the outside. Neither are bad(1/4"d) and they just add to it's primitive appeal. There are many tiny scratches in both the exterior and interior from years of use. The glaze is fabulous and there are bubbles, glaze pops, skipped glaze, and flakes- all factory flaws. There is fine ... morecrazing all over. It is one of the nicest, rustic crocks I've had in a long time.much nicer than my photos show. I always pack items carefully and am happy to combine shipping. When possible and refund difference in costs after packing. I list items that are in great, usable condition. 3 Vintage Primitive Stoneware BUTTER CROCKS Blue, Brown, Plain
These heavy old butter crocks are in wonderful condition- the brown and the blue one have no chips or cracks. The plain colored one looks a little older and a little rougher. And has a 2" line that looks like a crack, but only on the inside, under the glaze. All three are 5 1/2" in diameter and 3 3/4" tall. No visible markings on the bottom, but the blue one still shows traces of markings from a long time ago(see picture) They all have the same shape and will look beautiful on display in a country kitchen.

PROBABLY GRAY AT ONE TIME NOW IT IS FADED ON ONE SIDE TO BE ALMOST TAN. THE INSIDE IS DARK BROWN GLAZED NOT PERFECT BUT IN SURPRISINGLY GOOD CONDITION. THE BOTTOM SHOWS THIS WAS RED STONEWARE. VERY OLD BROWN CERAMIC/CLAY POT WITH LID. POT STANDS 8" HIGH AND IS ABOUT 7" DIAMTER AT THE BOTTOM. IT HAS NICE SHINY FINISH-HAS A FEW GLAZE POP PITS ON THE OUTSIDE BUT NO CRACKS OR CHIPS. THE TOP EDGE AND THE LID ARE NOTT AS SHINY- THE UNDERSIDE OF THE LID APPEARS TO BE PARTIALLY GLAZED. THE LID HAS A COUPLE OF SMALL CHIPS ON THE EDGE. THE BOTTOM OF THE POT IS VERY INTERESTING; IT HAS LOTS OF SWIRLS AND MULITPLE GLAZE BUBBLES. HE POT IS A LITTLE MISHAPED ON ONE SIDE AT THE BOTTOM- IT IS NOT DAMAGED BUT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS BUMPED A LITTLE BEFORE THE CLAY WAS DRY. NO MAKER MARKS THAT I CAN SEE. Up for consideration is an Antique Primitive Brown Glazed Redware Crock/Bottle. The crock measures approx. 8" tall and the bottom diameter is approx. 4 1/2. It has a nice shiney brown glaze. There is one little small"dig" on the side. The imperfections in coloring around the bottom area are not chips or cracks or anything- they are just the result of the initial glazing. This auction is for a nice antique short stoneware crock. Classic in color. This crock measures 5.25" tall and 9.75" wide. The last two photos show both sides of one hairline crack that starts at the top and goes a few inches down. The two photos before that show an indent in the bottom that may be an old chip that has browned from age or may be from manufacturing. It is shallow and does not go through. Large Old Brown Jug Antique Primitive Piece Salt Glaze Stoneware Vintage Whiskey
This old antique Whiskey Jug is a fresh find from a garage in a fine old home near Birmingham. Alabama. It is probably from the Mid to late 1800's and has the character to prove it. I see no cracks on the piece anywhere, but it does have some minor bumps near the base and various staining all on the surface from over a hundred years of sitting in a garage. Most folks would call this patina, and it enhances the beauty of this piece. Please review the photos carefully and ask any questions that you may have.
