It was used ... morefor smoothing and shaping butter in a wooden bowl. This one measures 8 1/2" long x 2 3/4" wide measuring at the widest part of the scoop section. It is made of nice hardwood. One side has narrow vertical ridges which make this tool more versatile in the kitchen. The reference book I use states that the fine grooves(in this one) is better than the coarse. They make nice grooved"balls" of butter. The opposite side is smooth and has a nice feel to the wood. Due to use. It has some tiny chips and scrapes of the edges of the wood. One side has a small piece that has broken off of the wood but it is smooth and not sharp. It has various other normal use marks. Very nice for your country kitchen. Many years. Top casting has the number 83 and an"H" inside of a circle. The wooden paddles and the crank's wooden handle have no splitting that I can see. The churning mechanism works perfectly as you turn the handle. PLEASE NOTE: There is a scratch/gouge on the bottom of the jar. You can feel it on the outside with your fingernail but you cannot feel it on the inside of the jar so it is only an imperfection on the outside surface. It is more of a gouge than a crack. And I really believe it was probably there when it was made. I got it to show up very well in the picture of the bottom by using the flash on my camera. Please look the pictures over. This is an impressive butter churn which has the ideal amount of rust and loss of plating to validate it's age and make it the ideal accent for your Country Kitchen or Farm display/ collection. A 6 1/2" tall antique pottery Ye Olden Time figural jug of a liquor bottle in a wi cker cover with a n old clay to bacco pip e leaning on the top side of it. This jug is a true antique. It was hand-made in a mold and dates back to the late 1800's. Jug reads: YE/ OLDEN/ TIME" Condition: Jug is in nice clean condition. On close inspection. The tip of the pipe is broken off and there is a small nick in the side of the lip. Otherwise jug has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Age: An antique hand-molded crock. Ca. late 1800's. Offering antique 19th century large covered stoneware salt glaze butter crock with mold fruit and floral decoration on the body of the crock and the lid. The condition of the crock is excellent. The lid has one small flat flake on the ede only. The background of the surface has been decorated with molded wave pattern- see pictures. The name BUTTER is molded on the front of the crock.There is original metal wire handle. It is 6 3/4" in diameter and 3 1/2" deep. Measures with the lid the covered butter crock is 4 1/8" tall and the lid is 6 5/8" across. Weight before packing is 3.12 lbs. This is old item and demonstrate characteristic of age including wear on the bottom and top edge. What you are viewing is an original antique 3-4 gallon(I Think) Stoneware crock with applied handles and a wonderful blue bee sting decoration on the front. Piece is in great shape for its age with some wear and aging to contend with as well as one 6in crack starting from the top. Piece has nice clean handles and crack is in the back of the piece so it won't detract much in display. Piece measures 9in X 8 3/4in X 13 3/4in and is a nice displayable size but once again, I am not sure about the gallon size. Today's Auction is for a Antique Ovoid-Type 1 Gal. Crock from F.H. Cowden- Harrisburg Pa. circa 1880-90. In fact this same F.H. Cowden served in the Civil War years before.It's in good condition with no cracks or holes. Just to let you know there's a chip on one spot on the base. Very old or possibly there when it was made and a very small nick on the outside top lip. No one would mention these because they are insignificant, but I like to let folks know everything so they're happy with an item that I send them. For it's age it is in terrific condition because if you know about stoneware it's very difficult to find with no damage, some can be major. The color on this crock is kind of an a yellowish orange color, very attractive. The photos show the whole crock, front, back, both sides, bottom, top and inside, good ... moreclean interior. BIG" 2 Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock 9" in height. 9 3/8" outside diameter. 9 L bs 1 oz. Most of these you find today are pretty well banged up. Not this one. It is almost"pretty" but it's not suppose to be. None of them were manufactured to be pretty and dainty. However. They truly are IMPRESSIVE pieces to own. When you own one of these, you own a part of history in America. You are almost like a museum owner, or a curator of time pieces on a small level. Side view with a little overhead angle. The no. 2 symbolizes"2 ... moregallons" of content(butter. Lard, whatever) There is no glaze on the top rim. PHOTO 2. Kinda dwarfs the softdrink can doesn't it? They used a dark brown glaze inside. also on the upper half outside. Clear glazes covers the bottom outside half. PHOTO 3. The bottom is"unglazed" for traction purpose. Glaze is too slippery like glass. Bare stoneware won't slide. Notice the bottom is very solid. PHOTO 4. Here we see the inner covering of dark brown glaze. Easy to clean for re-use and it seals in the contents. Not like Gramma's china. But it works perfectly.

NICE ANTIQUE 1/2 GALLON STONEWARE CROCK WITH WIDE RIM unknown maker
For sale is a nice antique salt glaze 1/2 gallon stoneware crock. The only damage that I could find was a small chip at the top of the rim that measures a little less than 1/4 inch in length and is less than a millimeter deep. The crock has an unusual large rim that measures 1 and 1/4 inches in width. It stands roughly 6 and 1/2 inches tall and measures 4 and 3/4 inches in diameter on the inside of the rim. There is a small area that did not get glazed on the back side of the crock. There is also a spot that looks like some one pushed in two fingers before the crock was fired. You can see this in the photos. If you have any information on the maker. I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions, please ask. Thank you.

Antique Redware Ovoid Crock Pennsylvania Glazed Inside Nice!!
There is no reserve on this Pennsylvania Redware Crock. We are pleased to present this mid-19 th c. redware ovoid crock with Pennsylvania origins. It is glazed on the inside and has a rolled rim. This crock is quite large and is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. When this crock was thrown there apparently was a small rock in the clay and it shows as an interesting mark on the side. Please see photo. There are also some places on the surface where the glazing dripped and show as shiny areas creating a sort of random pattern. This is a great piece of folk art and we think you will really like it. There are 3 old chips on the mouth, that are old enough to beautifully blend into the color of the salt glaze, a few stray black marks, and no other damage that I can find. Beautiful T.F. Reppert Antique Crock Measures 10" tall. 6" across on the bottom. Believe it's one gallon. But am not certain and obviously didn't want to fill it with anything to check. please refer to measurements. Dark gray color with navy/black writing. Front has the logo: T.F. REPPERT GREENSBORO. PA with clover, and leaf/floral decal(see photos) Logo measures 7" across, and 4" tall. The crock is in excellent condition. Especially considering it dates back to the 1880's, or prior. TF Reppert closed, and changed to Williams& Reppert in 1886. There is a hairline crack that runs vertically. On the back side. runs 7.5" long, and over the rim. Pre-Prohibition for sure, and from the research we did, it could be stated with a degree of certainty that these jugs are at least 100 years old. Kornschnapps was a German drink and with the influx of Germans coming to America back in the late 1800's, this product gained in popularity. By the late 1800's U.S. liquor dealer's were targeting alot of these emigrants and while some kornschnapp jugs were made overseas. Most were produced in the United States. These jugs which were being hand thrown out of local clays and at least one run of these jugs was known to of been made by a Pennsylvania pottery company. NICE BOLD Antique 10 Gallon Red Wing Union Stoneware Crock w/ Bail Handles
This is a fantastic antique Red Wing stoneware crock with crisp. Bold markings(some of the boldest I've seen) including a large 6" red wing, union oval, and patent date of Dec. 21 1915 on the side by the handle. The crock is in good condition with only one faint hairline on the top back edge and one chip on the side bottom edge, both shown in the photos. There is also a small, shallow factory crack on the inside bottom surface that happened during firing and does not go all the way through. The bail handle wires have some surface rust and both are slightly bent. The wood on the handles are in good condition with faded paint, but no major cracking or wear. The crock measures 16" H x 15" W. It will be packed very well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Antique Vintage Stoneware Crock with Lid. This is a very old canning or pickling crock. It has advertising on the front of it for" John Sexton& Company Chicago. Ill" The crock and the lid fit together nicely. The metal wire that holds the lid on top works and is intact but it is rusty. There is one chip on this crock and it is located at the bottom back and doesn't detour from the beauty of the crock. The crock is large and weighs a lot. It is 21.5" circumference. 11.25" tall to the top of the lid. 6.25" bottom diameter. Approx. measurements. There are no cracks, breaks, or holes in the crock or lid. It is most likely from the early 1900's. The graphics are bold and bright! There is some crazing on the crock. Great find! Hard to find in this nice condition! This auction is for a Antique E Norton& Co Bennington. Vermont 1 1/2 gallon stoneware crock it is in very nice shape- No cracks the handles are in good shape. It is 7.75" tall. The top is 8.75" in diameter. This needs to be cleaned. Some staining on the top rim. I feel a small indent on the bottom rim(I tried to get a closeup of it) Lettering is very readable. Thank you. Is this very nice estate fresh pickin' from a local estate.a beautiful condition Jug in one gallon Salt Glaze size, to hold various liquids of yesteryear perhaps vinegar, salt brine, fermented juice, things we no longer drink today but better known as, The Good Old Days, to those of us born, before the button pushing e-techno-tronic digital age. Back in those days, if you said"mouse" we meant that ... morelittle fur critter, not a plastic thing a ma jig. And a"screen" was a wire mesh you sifted with, not something you peered at plugged in. Likewise, the"cookie" was something Grandma baked, not some computer part. Ahhh,yes. Times past, the days when this JUG was new, selling for pennies at the country store as a utilitarian object now elevated to collector status desired by every Watcher out there reading this. The horse drawn carriages were clipclopping past at a lazy pace! This Jug is potted from northern grey clay indigenous to the area. But the extended time in the kiln during firing produced a most striking warm brown color layering over the grey peeking out underneath, rendering it appearing almost like Beehive or Beeskep! Horizontal rings of grey color peek out between the brown overlay in a most unusual effect a little bit different from the usual grey floral or later stencil patterns of the Cowden maker. Crock stands 10 3/4" tall on a 6.25" diameter base. The single rear strap handle is strong and perfect and the bottom is toasted light brown from the kiln with a desireable wire wheel cut marks off the potters wheel. Jug has a few random clay
