Up for auction is an Antique New York Stoneware Deep Blue Flower Design 4 Gallon Crock. The New York Stoneware Co and the number 4 is impressed. The flower design is a very dark cobalt blue. Each side has an applied elephant ear handle. Circa: 1859- 1885. Fort Edward. NY) Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 1/2" in diameter at the top. Base 11" in diameter. Floral decoration is about 5" wide X 6" tall. The blue floral decoration has dots and circles. Condition: This crock is being sold AS IS. This is a solid crock but it has issues. Large Blue decoration has excellent dark cobalt blue color but has a chip at the top branch. Shown in picture 2. There is a large chip at the rim above the ear handle, picture 8. The same ear handle has a chip underneath the handle, shown in the same picture. On the outside, there is a spider ... morehairline that starts on the bottom and runs up the side, see close-up picture in picture 5, 10& 11. I would not trust this crock to hold water. There is one small chip in the dark brown glaze on the inside, last picture. Picture 5 shows a raised dark spot on the outside which appears to be from the manufacturing process. See all pictures. Antique 2 gal G I Lazier Picton CW Ontario Cobalt Flower Decor Stoneware Jug
G I Lazier. Picton, Canada West, circa 1850, 2 gallon Stoneware Jug THIS JUG HAS NO HANDLE and is being offered AS-IS. The notes that ceramic tablewares were primarily imported into Canada from the UK and France all through the 19th century. And that only utilitarian wares were actually produced domestically, and only from the mid-century on. George Lazier, and others like him, were the pioneers of the industry. The same article notes that in the early stages of the industry in Canada, the clay itself was as often as not imported, much of it from south of the border. This stoneware jug. Ever so slightly lopsided, thrown in the pottery of George I. Lazier, in Picton, Canada West, sometime around 1850, has only one problem. its handle was broken off. The jug is 11-1/2 inches(29.2 cm) tall. 9-5/8 inches(24.5 cm) in diameter at its widest point ... moretapering to 8-1/2 inches(21.6 cm) in diameter at the base. The tapered form of the jug is noteworthy because by the 1860s stoneware potters on both sides of the border had given up the ovoid form in favor of straight-sided jugs and crocks; in ten or fifteen years potters had learned two important things, how to modify the clay mix so that it would slump less during firing and to take advantage of the fact that more straight-sided vessels could be fitted into the kiln each time they fired it. Although well on the way to being a straight-sided vessel, this is still a relatively heavy jug(9.04 pounds/ 4.1 kg) slightly ovoid, thick-walled, and it did slump somewhat during the firing, all implying that it reflects production in the early part of the period, closer to 1850 than to 1867. What is most interesting is that the scar the broken handle left where it should have been joined to the body is completely smooth, indicating that the handle was never adhered properly to the body in the first place. At the neck there was good melding with the handle so that scar is appropriately rough, but the only thing that ultimately held the handle onto the body was the layer of glaze

We are listing today for your consideration a lovely Antique 19th Century Stoneware Saltglazed Cobalt Blue Flower Design 1 gallon Crock. This crock has a unique repair to it. Being a hand wrought iron strip with rivet that has been fastened around the base to stabilize an old hairline crack. This crack starts at the center of the base and goes up to the bottom leaf of the 1 flower design. This strip is 100% stable, it does not move, the crock is 100% structually sound it rings true. There is 1 very small chip at the rim of the base that is behind the iron strip. There are no other chips, cracks, and or repairs. The crock measures 11 1/4" tall x 4 3/4" at the mouth x 5 3/4" at the base and weighs approximately 6lb 2oz. The crock has a lovely cobalt blue design of 3 flowers. 2 of the flowers are the same with a open bloom pointing ... moreupwards. The other flower design is of a open bloom drooping with more leaves than the other 2. There are 2 incised lines around the should of the crock. This beautiful old crock was purchased at the estate sale of a collector. It is about 8 1/2 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches diameter at the opening. The unusual design includes a raised floral pattern that is hand painted. The paint is worn off some with age and use. Most of these old crocks were used in the kitchen on a daily basis- possibly as a cookie jar or lard container- so it is common to have chips as this one does around the lid. Rare Antique Early Primitive 2 Gallon Salt Glaze Stoneware Crock Cobalt Flower
This is a beautiful early salt glazed stoneware crock with deep cobalt blue flower and"2" markings. It is shorter and wider than most 2 gallon crocks. Measuring about 9 1/2" W x 8 3/4" H. There are no chips on the outside surface, but there are a couple tiny flakes of dark brown missing from the inside. There are some hairlines, all shown in the photos. There are two"crow's feet" shaped hairlines(one on the side between the 2 and the handle, and one on the back bottom edge) and two short straight hairlines(one on the top edge above the 2 and one on the side bottom edge) I don't know why, but it has a slightly smoky aroma to it, pleasant like a smokehouse, not like cigarettes) This would make a fantastic and unusual display piece. It will be packed well, double boxed, and insured during shipping.

Antique Crock / Stoneware Flower Pot - Fluted Rim - Primitive - LOOK!!!
This auction is for the wonderful flower pot pictured. It is in the used condition shown. This flower pot measures 5 1/2 inches tall. 5 1/2 inches across the top, and 5 inches across the base of the drip plate. This pot is unusual in a couple of ways. It is 2 colors instead of one. It has an incised ring around it where it changes color. It only goes around about 3/4 of the way) It is a very crude flower pot. This pot has a potstone on the top of the fluted or ruffled rim. It is amazing it did not explode when fired or get knowked off over the years. There are 3 small hollow spots on the drip plate base from when the potter removed it from the wheel and formed the base edge. He removed three stones from the clay before he fired it. The drip plate was attached to the pot before fired. Has a drain hole from the pot into the plate. Has a small ... moredent or chip on the inside of the drip plate. Unsure which because of the mineral buildup from watering the plant. This buildup can probably be removed with CLR(calcium lime and rust remover as seen on tv) Please look at all the pictures. Rare Antique Adam Caire Poughkeepsie Stoneware 3 Gal Crock Flower Decoration
You're bidding on an antique 3 gallon stoneware crock- marked"Adam Caire Po'keepsie" With a hand-decorated flower design in blue on the front. The Caire family was a multi-generational family of ceramic makers in the Poughkeepsee, NY- Hudson Valley that produced stoneware for over 100 years beginning in the late 18th Century. the Adam Caire mark dates this crock to the late 19th Century. Crock does have a primary condition issue, widespread visible spotting on the exterior that looks to me to be some type of oil. I would assume, but I don't know for sure, that this can be cleaned or minimized. If you know how to do it, you have a good deal on your hands here, because this crock is in otherwise very good shape- some other small stains, a few stray marks that look like red paint, and wear typical for age and type of item, ... morebut there are absolutely no cracks, and one single chip at the rim. I assume this mark stands for one gallon but I'm not positive. I've seen other crocks and they are marked with a 1 in a circle? There is a very slight hair line crack on the bottom. It does not come all the way through the crock. There is a small chip off the bottom edge.

Its condition is very good with no chips or major cracks- only micro crazing due to age. There are some areas of discoloration(mostly on the inside) Please study the pictures carefully as they are its best description. It measures 5 3/4" high with lid and 4 3/4" wide. Embossed in bands near the top and bottom are rope-like and other details highlighted with gold. A bird and lotus flowers in cobalt blue with gold highlights decorate this beautiful crock. Here is a wonderful old crock. Bold flower decoration. The story is the glaze has gotten that dark brown color from being over fired, but it is fairly consistent so we are not sure if it was intentional or experimental, but whatever the reason photos show the coloring. The bottom bulges a bit in the center so it does not rest flat on the table. One small fleck on the inner edge of the rim, some unglazed recessed areas on the edge of the base that appear to be original to the piece. No cracks. There are also three recessed areas on the sides that have some glaze, not sure what those are. See photos for condition detail, as found. Measures 12" tall and about 7" across the opening. I am listing one of my favorite collectibles for auction. This has been passed down and around as long as I can remember. absolutely gorgeous. I will do my best to tell you about it. The first few photos are the actual color. the last ones are with flash and it looks off white. it is tan with a green ring around top and bottom. also on lid. The sides and inside are glazed not the bottom. It measures 9 1/4" tall to top of crock by 9 3/4" round. From checking others this size they list 2 gallon. I have never put liquid in it. The deep red flowers have strong color and are in excellent condition. see the leaf and how the green bleeds into the background. I do not see any maker marks. Note: the entire crock has crazing. there are a few chips inside the ring of the lid and also on the handle. I have tried to show all of this to you in ... morethe photos. I only have a 10 pound scale. the crock weighs 9.2.3 and the lid 1.11.4. so just about 11 pounds before packing. I guess you could use this as a cookie jar. myself. I just had it for display. NON-SMOKING HOME* This is our very rare Canadian Stoneware Crock made by James R Burns of Toronto in the 1880's. It has the Blue Tulip OR Butterfly on a Flower design on the front. There are some chips as you can see in the 7 photos and 2 cracks that extend 2 1/2" from the lip straight into the body. But still a great find because of its rarity.
