Dyed and braided bamboo decorates the neck. Its condition is very good. There are no repairs or serious damages, but there are some chips from along the bottom edge. We believe this piece is relatively new, probably dating from the late twentieth century. The four-character mark appears to indicate the location of the maker and translates roughly to"factory by the ocean and Yuan" which is a river winding through the Guizhou province(in southern China) toward the Hunan province to the east. These provinces are adjacent to the Guangzhou province(known in English as the Canton province) where most Martaban style ceramics are produced in China. There are no markings on this item. I believe it is salt glazed and features a cobalt blue bird. I took several pics of the front of this as it was hard to get a good picture.My guess would be that it was an egg cup or a honey jar/honey crock. Exceptional quality. Small alkaline or salt glazed, primitive antique crock. 6 1/4 inches high, about 3 inch top diameter, about 4 1/4 inch bottom diameter. Looks to be just under 5 inches around(diameter) in the middle. Nice luster, looks different in every kind of light. Glaze is nicely variegated- study photos to get the feel and look of this relatively heavy piece(for its size) Does not appear to be missing a lid- the way the opening was made, I do not believe this ever had a lid, at least not a ceramic one that would have been incorporated into the clay design when the piece was hand thrown. Looks like this crock could originate from the Catawba Valley Pottery, but just my opinion. Glaze& form reminds me a little bit of Pewabic Pottery pieces, but not iridescent. Not much wear given its age- glaze has rubbed off in a few small spots ... morearound the rim(see photo) but no serious chips or cracks. Bottom is unmarked. All sales are final- no returns. It is in very good condition. There is one small chip at the base. Almost invisible unless turned upside down. There is an interesting effect on one side where it looks like the glazing was applied unevenly. With some of the stoneware surface still showing through. There is no lid.

Though there's no markings on this crock it's very likely it's from the Roseville-Zanesville, Ohio area as I only live about 30 miles from there. SMALL BROWN GLAZED CROCK JAR POTTERY STONEWARE 1860 VIRGINIA WEST INCISED RING
Here is a MOST INTERESTING OLD CROCK from WEST VIRGINIA OR VIRGINIA I THINK. I know that it is old. Probably pre CIVIL WAR around 1860- It has a an INCISED RING down to about the middle that sets it apart from most others of its type. It is small, even diminutive, measuring just 6 1/4 inches in height, 4 inches across the top and 4 1/4 inches across the base. The bare clay on the base indicates that it is REDWARE. Now the GOOD NEWS- It is in MINT- PERFECT CONDITION. I cannot find one thing wrong with it. For the age that is REMARKABLE. You will notice that one of the photos make the pot look like blue. That is where the sun was hitting it, a reflection. The interior shows the EXACT SAME BROWN GLAZE AS THE OUTSIDE DOES. GREAT LITTLE JAR. Buyer pays $8.00 domestic shipping and handling. Antique Vintage 5 Gallon Crock Stoneware 2 Tone Labeled G Fox & Co Glazed Brown
This 5 gallon two-toned crock came from an auction in Vermont. It has a label from the G. Fox& Co. Hartford, Conn, see the 5th picture, on the side. It must have been delivered by the G. Fox& Co. I found out the G stands for Gerson who owned this large department store. It said that they made deliveries by wheelbarrow. The crock measures 13" high and 11 3/8" in diameter. There is a chip on the bottom edge, see the 10th picture. There is a crack that starts on one side where the brown turns to tan and runs down to the middle of the bottom. There are 3 indentations on the bottom edge that must have been made during the manufacturing process because they are glazed over. There are some drips marks, see the 2nd picture. There are also residue marks on the inside.

This auction is for an antique rustic brown stoneware crock marked J. Moran 1. We were unable to discover anything about the maker. This primitive crock stands about 7 inches high and is 4.25 inches in diameter at its base. Judging from the positioning of two chip marks on the side of the crock. It may have had a single bail handle at one time. Otherwise, the crock is solid and in good used condition, particularly given its age. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. Antique Brown Salt Glazed Beehive Crock- Canning Crock - Faded Folk Art Painting
Offered for Auction: Old Brown Beehive Shaped Salt Glazed Crock with Faded Folk Art Painting. The crock was probably used for food storage or canning and the painting on the side appears to be a floral arrangement of perhaps dandelions or thistles but it's all but faded with just an outline in teal/green and a little yellow. The crock has seen better days and is being sold as is. I have not cleaned it and I do not know if it will hold liquid. I am uncertain of its age or origin as it is unmarked. Condition: Poor to Fair given its age and use. The crock has surface spalling. Scratches, glaze loss and dings, nicks and chips and there is a chip/void on the edge of the rim. The painted floral design has faded leaving an outline of teal/green colored paint and very light yellow. There are spots of glaze and other discoloration on the bottom ... moreas shown. Vintage 1920's/1930's or earlier large jug crock. It measures 12" tall and 6 1/2" outside diameter at base. The capacity looks like 1- 1 1/2 gallons. It is a heavy thick wall salt glaze glazed stoneware stone ware pottery jug with a cup style side handle near the top. The crock is in very good condition. It is glazed brown on the top half and tan on the bottom half with great crazing. The exterior bottom is unglazed. There is a remnants of a cork left. They were referred to as packing jars. Commonly used for olives. The jar would have had a wire/wood bail handle attached to the two ears on the jar. It would have had a clear glass lid held in place by a rod through two off the three holes in the lip. The third hole, slighty lower in the lip, is a drain for fluid duing the filling/sealing process. They came in two sizes and solid brown, like yours and two tone, brown and tan.

Vintage Rustic 2 Quart Brown Glazed Handled Crock With Lid
This is a 2 quart rustic brown glazed handled crock with lid. No cracks or repairs but has a chip above handle near rim and small chips on underside of lid. Please see photos. Measures 5 3/4" tall and is 5" in diameter. Very old and used but nice.
