Antique Wire Mesh & Tin Footed Strainer w Handles 7"
Here is a useful kitchen collectible. Charming enough to hang on a hook or a wall. It is an old wire mesh strainer or colander, mounted on a thick wire ring that is the base. A wire ring also encircles the top, formed into handles on either side. The top is also reinforced with a tin ring about.75 inches wide. It is very solidly made. Measures about 7 inches in diameter by 4.5 inches high, and is in excellent condition, with a wonderful old patina. I note at the inner rim where the mesh meets the tin rim, there is 1 loose mesh wire hook, and a section about 1.5 inches long where the mesh is not attached to the rim. For your consideration is a five gallon Red Wing crock. This crock has a four inch wing and an oval that is 2 1/4" wide and almost 1 1/2" tall; the writing in the oval says: RED WING- U NION S TONEWARE C O. RED WING. MINN. This writing indicates this crock was manufactured 1915-1930. The wood and wire handles were patented Dec. 21 st. 1915. The marks on the bottom are a good example of kiln stacking. This crock is approximately 13 1/2" tall and the bottom is approximately 12" in diameter. The paint is wore off from the wood on both handles and on the right handle the wood is chipped. On the backside of the crock. The inner rim is chipped in two places. The edge of the bottom has a chip on the front and another chip on the right side. antique silver spoon handmade set w wire handles ALL DIFFERENT!
Measuring about 5" long these seven spoons were found in an old trunk that had not been opened in 30 plus years. They look all handmade and each wire designed end is different. These look sterling. At least the bowls of the spoon do but are unmarked. The quality of the silver and the weight do not feel at all like silver-plate. I did clean them up with some silver polish since they were black when we found them and they came out pretty nice but still could use some detailed cleaning.
