The lid has a hairline crack in it as well as a chip(on the inside bottom portion that fits into the jar) The lid is ground and sets slightly lower in the neck of the jar. Saltglazed Stoneware Fruit Jar or storage jar
Interesting saltglazed stoneware fruit or storage jar. 12 sided with double collar lip. Jar is 7 1/2 inches tall and 3 3/4 inches across at the top. It has a dark brown interior albany slip. There is no embossing but the base has some unusual marks. Assume this jar was pressed in a mold of some kind. Don't know enough about it to say for sure. Unusual and attractive.

And bits of turkey dropping brown color on the inside rim. This is a grayish white clay pottery color, glazed brown inside so I estimate this as late 1800s to early 1900s, but I am no expert. I believe this to be hand-turned as I feel some ridges inside, and see the knife scraping line going round the middle of jar outside, and don't see any seam, but again, I am no expert. This is a huge 22.5 inch high and 17.5 inch wide crock. I was told by the lady it came from it was a German Sauerkraut crock that has been in her family since before she was born. She said they always made sauerkraut in it and her grandparents were from Germany. That being said I can not authenticate any of that but I think it is beautiful. Has a shamrock on the front and a 20 for 20 gallons. It is a cream colored beige. Inside is dark brown. I put water in it and after a while if started to leak out of a few hairline cracks on the sides. There may be a hairline crack in the bottom but I can see it on the inside but not the outside. No cracks around the lip and it structurally very sound and very heavy. This is for local pickup only. Dallas Fort Worth area. Texas. Unless we make other arrangements. This is rare being so big. Antique Late 18th Early 19th C Manganese Glazed Redware Storage Jar Crock
Up for auction is an antique primitive redware manganese glazed storage jar crock recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia. PA area. The interior and exterior is glazed with manganese which gives this a very shinny dark brown appearance. It is found in good used condition. The only condition issue to discuss are a small chip on the rim and a few small chips on the foot. It is indicative of redware found in Pennsylvania. This jar has a base diameter of approximately 6" and an opening diameter of approximately 4" with an overall diameter of approximately 4 1/2" in size. Still usable for food, storage or to be repurposed for any need. Great as a vase or in a country kitchen to hold your favorite cooking utensils. Antique blue and white stoneware strong jar with the desired eagle and shield impressed on the front and back. Condition can be seen in the photos. An old chip on the lid. It's length is about 1 inch. The jar itself has an old 1/8 to 1/4 inch ding that can be seen above and to the left of the eagle. Otherwise a good jar. No hairline cracks in the jar or lid. A great old 1 1/2 gallon storage jar with lid and cobalt feather decoration made in Bennington. VT by E. L. P. Norton between 1858 and 1881. It's 10 1/4" tall and 7 3/4" wide at the applied handles. There is a hairline at the left handle. There are also several small chips and dings, all seen in the photos. Still, a great piece by a great maker. Will ship at an 11-pound rate. Brown Stoneware Canning Crock Storage Jar Primitive Rustic Farmhouse Vintage
We believe this larger size stoneware crock was made as a canning or storage jar. It has a raised lip at the opening to accommodate a lid of some sort. The glaze is a slightly reddish dark brown but it seems to have some darker– maybe green– streaks either under or over the brown. They show up better in the photos than to the naked eye. The interior surface has distinct horizontal ribs. Possibly indicating that this crock was made by the coiling technique. This crock is about 11” high and the top opening is about 2 ½” across. It measures about 6” across at the base. It appears to have a volume of about one gallon. It is in fairly good vintage condition. It has several minor chips and at the top opening and at the rim of the base. But we don’t detect any cracks. White Stoneware Canning Crock Storage Jar USA Primitive Rustic Farmhouse Vintage
This glazed white stoneware or earthenware crock or storage jar is quite heavy and appears to hold about one gallon. It has a lip inside the opening to support a lid and molded ear handles at either side. The glaze shows several drips and various surface imperfections that are typical for this sort of crock. It is marked USA on the unglazed bottom. But we couldn’t make a photo that shows this mark. It measures a little over 9” high and is about 6 ½” across at the base. It measures 5 7/8” across at the top. And the opening is about 4 ¼” It is in good vintage condition overall. It has a few orange rust stains. One on the outside and a couple on the inside near the upper rim, but we do not detect any significant chips or cracks. Light crazing-flea bite glaze imperfection on outside near bottom. Several pits. Top inner rim has minor glaze problems and a small chip. One chip on bottom rim(can only see when holding crock) Few black dot flea bites. One 2" brown stain near top. In center of crock is consistent ridge. No id markings. Nice mid 1800s named Brantford, Ont. 2-3 gallon saltglaze stoneware storage jar
We are listing this very nice looking mid 1800s 2 to 3 gallon saltglaze stoneware crock. Which is impressed on the front? W ELDING& BELDEN, Brantford, Ont. I could not find a record of this company, but by the 1870s and 1880s there was a probable successor named Belden Brothers and Belden& Co. in Brantford. The crock is 10.5 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide, and looks fantastic. There is a small flake on the rim, a couple of hairlines near the base, and the usual minor rubs and glaze pops you see on these old functional crocks- but this is a great collector piece or decorator item. Large striking mid 1800s Nottingham glazed and decorated stoneware storage jar
We are listing this large and very striking mid 1800s Nottingham glazed and roulette decorated stoneware storage jar. The shiny dark brown glaze on this piece was used in the Nottingham area of England beginning in the early 1800s. As were the roulette type impressed and beaded decorative bands around the middle of the jar. The ear type handles on the piece are also typical of Nottingham functional stoneware pieces like this, but they were also used on many American saltglaze stoneware pieces in the 1800s as well. The jar is 9.5 inches tall, almost that wide as well, and is in very good condition for its age and typical use. The handles were not put on evenly, and there are typical short firing cracks at various spots on the base, body and handles. This is a great old collector piece, and a very decorative jar as well with its very shiny ... moreglaze, pleasing design and substantial size.
