Hello& Welcome, Here's a fantastic old stoneware crock that's still in great condition. It holds one gallon filled to its brim and measures ... moreapproximately 9 3/4" high. 6 1/4" wide at the bottom& 5 1/2" wide at the top. The opening is 4" wide and it has a tapered neck. The glazing on this crock is in beautiful condition, inside and out. The crock has no markings on it but I suspect it was made locally as S.E. Ohio was/is well known for its good clay soils for producing pottery, ceramics& glass. Within one half hour of where I live is where the homes of such companies as Roseville Pottery, Hull Pottery, Hall Pottery, Anchor-Hocking Glass, Hocking Glass, Fenton, McCoy Pottery, etc. were located. This old crock, though it is missing its lid(like many) is in very, very good condition with no cracks, nicks, etc. and would make a great addition to any collection. Should you have any questions, please ask. Thank you for stopping by and please visit my store for much more pottery, glass& many other finer things when you get time. PS-I gladly ship internationally but please contact me first before bidding/purchasing for an accurate shipping cost as it may be lower. Or higher than what's listed. The buyer's also responsible for any import fees/duties/etc. should there be any. Thank you for your understanding& cooperation.

It would be a great addition to any Yellowware collection or as a standalone piece to place on a countertop, table, or shelf in any kitchen. It would also make a lovely small fruit bowl. Antique Raw Unglazed Stoneware Crock Fruit Jar with Tobacco Spit Glaze Feature
unusual stoneware with raw exterior Antique Canning Crock with Tobacco Spit Glaze Feature maker unknown offered as found great piece for decoration or utility Welcome to Simpler Times Antiques! Here for you today we're offering this antique stoneware canning crock or what some of the old timers around our parts often referred to as a stone fruit jar. Ours is a stoneware crock standing some 9.5" tall and having a base diameter of about 6.75" It features a neck of smaller diameter. About 4" with a mouth opening of about 3.5" The exterior surface of this crock is raw, or unglazed stoneware with a matte or slightly rough texture. The interior surface, naturally is glazed, likely salt glaze, as is the exterior of the neck only. This crock has no lid and likely never did. It was probably sealed after filling with paraffin ... morewax and cheesecloth which would have afforded a tight and leakproof closure. This piece bears no markings to indicate maker or place of manufacture. It's consistent with many Ohio River Valley utility pieces we've seen in the past and could have been made by almost any American pottery operating in the years around or just after the turn of the Twentieth Century. An interesting and unusual feature of this crock is what we often hear called a"tobacco Spit" glaze or accent. In this case it takes the form of a big thick daub of dark glaze material on only one spot on the side of this piece. You'll see it in detail in the photos. Sometimes these accents were intentional, frequently they were just the accidental occurrences of working in a pottery. They're called tobacco spit because tradition holds that they were sometimes caused by tobacco chewing pottery workers spitting onto the wares as they entered the kilns. We're offering this crock just as found at a local estate sale. You'll see in the photos that it has suffered a couple of small chips on its neck and also exhibits a tight hairline crack on the neck opposite those chips. Additionally. The
