An impressive 19thC. Pitcher or Batter Jug glazed in rich. Brown Albany Slip. This piece is unmarked, but most likely made in New England, 1870-1890. Very well-formed with pinched spout and applied strap handle. There is a pair of incised lines around the belly; and one just below the rim. Just a few small chips on the inner rim and some manufacturing imperfections; otherwise mint. No hairlines, cracks, repaired damage or other excuses. COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG 18TH C STYLE PRIMITIVE COMB WARE SLIP GLAZED POTTERY DISH
DISH THIS ONE UP! This is an unmarked Colonial Williamsburg early vintage manufacture reproduction Slipware Combed Pottery Trencher Dish imitating the folk pottery made in the18th c for use in the buttery. Pantry, early fireplace kitchen area in countryside where carriages and commerce did not bring refined tablewares to homes in the Rev War days. I bought it along with similar matching articles and can only surmise this early piece failed to receive the oval backstamp after production when quality control didn't matter, and I would not insinuate or connect this origin, unless I was really sure. Please study the pictures taken ouside innatural sunlight to see folky primitive details of this hand thrown piece. Trencher with scooped sides measures 5.5" x 7.5" with inner glaze a rich mustard color and combware brown graining like ... morea Napolean dessert cake! Edges are half glazed coggle crimped. And rear has been darkened with dry overglaze not shiny. A pool of slip(liquid clay) has formed in firing at the bottom of this piece resulting in a darkened area that looks like maple syrup! Just charming, folky, quirky, hand made, very realistic.nothing in the 18th c for utilitarian use, was quite perfect, given rudimentary process involved. Set with real antiques in a photo shoot, it is hard to tell the difference! Item is hefty at 1.25 pounds weight so suggest Priority rate in box well bubble wrapped with peanuts. Here is a pretty special piece by North Georgia folk potter Lanier Meaders. This Beanpot is early. I've never seen another one like it and it's Albany slip glazed. The straight sides and double lug handles is a rare form by Lanier. It measures 6.5 x 8 inches and is signed on the bottom. A brown. Slip-glazed Canning Jar or Wax Sealer Crock in excellent overall condition, ca.1890. The body is stenciled in white slip: DONAGHHO CO. PARKERSBURG. This is the mark of Alexander Donaghho, who operated a pottery in West Virginia, 1874-1900. HERE'S a fine authentic genuine 19th c salt glazed Stoneware Jug recently acquired at a high end sale in Westchester New York. It was sold to us at circa 19th century. This is a nice example of primitive stoneware. The Jug is stamped in blue with a block style"M" and"1 1/2" in a crest. The 1 1/2 refers to the size of 1 1/2 quarts. As the pictures show it is in nice condition with some glaze loss at the very top of the jug. There are no hairlines or repairs. Just an honest old piece that has lasted time. It weighs 8 pounds. This piece is almost 11" tall X 7-1/2" across(24" around) The piece features a molded handle(slightly skewed as befits a handmade piece) and a squared off top. The color is buff with some discolorations from the original firing(see photos) The jug is in excellent condition commensurate with its age. There are no cracks, chips or damage visible. Cute little stoneware salt glazed ceramic pitcher. It is solid with no cracks however there are 3 chips on the spout(see pictures for all details) The blue glazed band around the center has a bubbly texture that I hopefully I caught in the pictures- they are slightly raised as well. This one has been in my family longer than my mother and she was born in 1920.

I am still researching to pinpoint its origin and will try to make revisions as the auction continues as I find out more information. Sometimes experts will write with enlightening information. Which I hope will be the case here. To my eye, this looks to be in the style of Native American work, however I have no official documentation to authenticate the provenance of this interesting piece and my instincts say it could very well be Mexican. The red clay is slip-glazed in taupe- brushed on. Decorative white slip design is applied over all with careful strokes. Surface of red clay is somewhat smoother than the slip glazed areas. With a low raised ring foot, decorated in inlaid black and white slip with a centural flowerhead medallion surrounded by a ruyi band. The sides with Chrysanthemum flowerheads. With 4 spur marks, applied overall with a very fine and clear sea-green celadon glazed evely in interiors and exteriors. It’s very fine condition without any damages at all. It measures12.5cm x 3.3cm h.

Antique ALBANY SLIP Glazed Stoneware Pitcher Mid 19th Century
We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique stoneware pitcher. Finished in dark brown Albany Slip glaze. It has a smooth finish with quite a bit of glaze drip on the lower portion of the piece. A very nice find! Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century. It was not considered valuable and as such. Was not preserved or well cared for. Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip. The glaze was high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color- it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown. The firing process caused color variations as well. Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the pottery who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing. We will be offering a number of these pieces in the coming weeks. Slip ware, tin glazed earthen ware vase of a red ware pottery heavy pottery vase decorated firstly with a white slip covering, over this was added in multi colors of Tin Glazes fancy designs. This vase is heavy it weighs about 2 LBS. The vase stands about 8-1/2" Tall. The flat base has a diameter of about 3-1/2" The rim diameter measures about 3-1/4" The rim has the slashed pattern designs seen used on most English 17th and 18th century tin glazed earthenware ceramics. The interior of the vase has only the slip covered over the red ware base materials. It has no tin glazed on the interior. Nice old Southern Pottery jug. This antique jug is handmade with applied handle and brown Albany slip glaze. The base is 7 5/8' in diameter. The jug is 9 1/2" tall. There is one small chip in the neck. Pictured. The mouth has been ground at some time to smooth out small chips. Otherwise there are no other chips or cracks in this jug. This beautiful old Southern glazed jug is in excellent condition with appropriate wear marks on the bottom. This is a very old jug, with a warm character often found in old Appalachian pottery. This is primitive Americana. This is just one beautiful crock in shape. Slip design, patina etc. I purchased this crock at an estate sale where the collector had many antique European furniture and decorations from trips overseas. This crock has no chips. There appears to be a capital L and a lower case g etched into the side of the crock. possibly for Large or the initials of the maker? Someone has taken a sharp object and scratched into the letters partially as can be seen in the last picture. There is an"o" stamped on the top of one of the handles. The plate has a slip decoration in yellow on orangish-brown colored background. The yellow slip decoration is in the form of the wavy lines at the edges. Rustic Slipware Country Pottery Lead Glazed Red Ware Bowl with white slip band Search This is a hand thrown earthenware bowl. It has a red terracotta body under a clear claze and is decorated with a band of s shaped squiggles of white slip around the outside of the rim. I don't know where this was made. And it is not very old, I think, but a nice thing. Size: 5 3/4 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches deep(14.5 x 9 cm) approximately. Weight: 437 grammes Condition: There is a graze to the glaze on the inner rim with about 8 x 4 mm of glaze missing. There is a glazed over chip to the footring- a manufacturing defect. Other than this there is no real wear to the piece. Which is why I think it is fairly recently made, despite the shape and decoration suggesting an early nineteenth century date. 1990 Redware Bottle or Flask Lead Glazed Flat Sides Slip Bird Decoration Marked Kathy Gatch By Greg Shooner For your Redware or Breininger Ware Collection Details Description: A beautiful lead glazed redware bottle or flask. The bottle or flask has a rectangular flat base with rounded corners. The base has a short dimension and a longer dimension. The longer dimension is flattened while the narrow dimension is rounded. The sides rise from the base to a shoulder which then slopes inwards in a rounded fashion to a top opening having a flat flared rim or lip. The piece is colored in a beautiful orangish-brown color and has a raised yellow slip decoration depicting a bird surrounded by lines and a star like decoration above it on the flat side. This is represents what we would call very classic Pennsylvania Dutch colors and design. The bottle ... moreis a reproduction of 18th or 19th century redware implement from Lancaster County Pennsylvania and as such it has been antiqued with crazing. Chips, glaze and slip losses. This auction is for an Antique Slip Painted Persian Style Glazed Blue Jar or Vase with Red Words on Bottom that I cannot make out. At least that is what I believe it to be based on my Internet research. I am not a pottery or porcelain expert, so please ask all questions before bidding. Jar measures about 6 1/2" wide at widest part of body by roughly 6 1/2" tall. Top outer rim is decorated so I am assuming it never had a lid. There is a spot measuring about 1/2" x 3/4" on one side where outer glaze has chipped away and is missing. Other than that only some typical flaws probably from the time it was made and fairly uniform crazing throughout. Small chips out of bottom footed rim that may or may have been done in the making. In addition, the plate has an original 2" firing crack which can be seen at 6:00 and goes through the plate.
