Vintage IDEAL SANITARY WATER BOWL Model "B" Morristown, Minn - Red Wing Pottery?
Here we have an Ideal Sanitary Water Bowl– there seems to be some controversy over how these were TRULY used back in the day- they were used either in farming as animal waterers or as drinking fountains in parks- either use sounds legitimate enough. And perhaps BOTH cases are in fact true. There are two holes through the back of the crock into which water faucets could be installed. And there is one drain hole in the bottom- we've seen some of these plugged with an old cork, but this one doesn't have one. According to the markings. These were made by Ideal Equipment Company, but my research seems to indicate that they were really made by Red Wing Pottery FOR Ideal, though I cannot verify or confirm this information. They do NOT have a Red Wing mark or stamp on them anywhere that I can find, though. The Ideal sanitary water bowl IS ... moremarked as follows: IDEAL SANITARY WATER BOWL F. H. AHLMAN’S PATENT MODEL“B” MANUFACTURED BY THE IDEAL EQUIPMENT CO MORRISTOWN. MINN. This one has a few hairline cracks in it. And there is some chipping as well. It seems nearly all of these that were actually used got chipped by one or both of the water faucet holes. See photos for details. The crock measures 11” across from side to side and 11 ¼” from front to back(the front being where the blue stamp is. And the back being where the two water holes enter the bowl) It measures 4 ½” tall, and weighs a few ounces shy of 17 pounds. The item will be VERY carefully packed, and the package WILL be insured for shipment, as well. The water faucet holes are 2 ¾” on center(outside to outside edge of the water holes measures 3 ¼” All of the other MODEL“B” waterers I’ve seen of this type are a LITTLE bit smaller– I’m not sure if there could just be that much variation among them. Or if there were actually subtly different size variations of these water bowls. This would make a nice addition to a collection. Vintage Red Wing Pottery 8 1/2" diameter cottage cheese crock
Up for auction is a very nice old cottage cheese crock. With the name"Fairmont's cottage cheese registered" written on the front. The crock is about 7 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches in diameter. The crock weighs about six pounds. There are no chips or repairs. I believe this crock dates from between 1910 and 1935.

This one is crack and damage repair free, but does show some bottom edge chippers in pics# 10& 12. Number 11 shows a factory clay dimple. Always allow for stoneware glaze skips. And glaze runs which are possible. This one does have a noticeable skip by the"5" Piece rings very well. The block letters are unique also as this changed shortly after this period also. Boston Brand Beans DU1549" I believe this is from the early 1900's and the DU 1549 is the phone number. It has a smooth glaze. It may be made by Red Wing pottery- the bottom is just marked USA, so I can't say for sure. A nice piece, but not in perfect condition. Antique Crock This auction is for a very old and rather rare antique cheese crock that looks like it was a 20 lb. size. But it’s not marked with size on the sides. The crock measures about 9½" wide and it has the typical Red Wing Stoneware cream coloring. The crock is in nice condition but needs a major cleaning– on the interior there is a thick layer of paint or some kind of hardened chalk substance that needs to be flaked out or broken out. I did a little work and it broke up easily so it should come clean with a little work. The bottom of the crock is signed in a circle with the words Red Wing Stoneware Company. This lid is in nice condition. No cracks or chips that I see on the outside. On the underside of the lip. There is a 1/4" triangle of glaze flaked off. Measures 13 3/4" across.
