It measures just shy of 12.5" tall and the ... moretop is about 7.25" across. Not a hairline to be found anywhere, only some rim chips- the largest measuring just over half an inch in length, just right of center on the top rim. Two more which are very tiny- both toward the back on the inner rim, less than a quarter inch each. There is wear to the blue decoration, but the stenciling is plenty legible. There is also some yellowish staining on either side of the crock. Other minor imperfections such as tiny dings and glaze skips, of which we are unsure whether they occurred in manufacturing. Displays very well and structurally sound. Please view the images for condition details. As they are part of the description and they are of the actual item you will receive. Thank you for your interest in our auction of an ANTIQUE BLUE DECORATED. HANDLED, STONEWARE CROCK BY F. H. COWDEN OF HARRISBURG, PA. VINTAGE 1881-1888. This is a used item, that has been in my family from the beginning, in the 1880s, passed down from my great grandmother. It is still in fine condition. There are no cracks any where on it. There are two points on the bottom of the crock that my be chips out of it, or it may be that they were manufacturing flaws, but in any case, as can be seen in our photos, they are insignificant faults, and would have no effect on the use of the crock. What's more, they are on the bottom of the crock, where they wouldn't even be seen in normal usage. The crock is glazed both outside and inside, and there doesn't seem to be any crazing any where on the crock, inside or outside, that I have seen. ... moreFrom research that I have recently done on this crock, I have been happily surprised to learn that this piece representing the stoneware produced by the Cowden family of Harrisburg, PA, the capital city of Pennsylvania, is or was among the most highly collected stoneware in the nation. I am under the impression that the blue decoration and the salt glaze used by these producers was something new and important to the production of stoneware. T.F. Reppert antique stoneware crock from Greensboro PA. Sadly this one is broken. It was shipped to my father and didn't survive the trip. He is thinning out his collection beginning with the broken ones. This was broken into pieces and glue repaired. I'm sure a professional repair job could be possible. But this feels pretty sturdy as is. It would not hold water but still displays well. It's a beautiful piece of history that can't be replaced and shouldn't just be thrown away because it's broken. A 19th century blue decorated two gallon open stoneware crock by Hamilton& Jones. Greensboro, PA. It measures just shy of 12.5" tall and the top is about 7.25" across. Not a hairline to be found anywhere, only some rim chips- the largest measuring just over half an inch in length, just right of center on the top rim. Two more which are very tiny- both toward the back on the inner rim, less than a quarter inch each. There is wear to the blue decoration, but the stenciling is plenty legible. There is also some yellowish staining on either side of the crock. Other minor imperfections such as tiny dings and glaze skips, of which we are unsure whether they occurred in manufacturing. A 19th century one gallon blue decorated stoneware crock by James Hamilton& Co. Greensboro, PA. It measures approximately 10" tall and the top is about 5-5/8" wide. There is a three-way hairline on the side toward the bottom, right of center, extending about 1.5-2" each way(part of it extends through the" Co" blue stenciling) and also about 2" inward on the bottom of the piece(please see photos) As to the rim, there is some white paint/residue on the top rim, as well as a chip to the inner rim of less than half an inch in width. There is a tiny chip to the lower 2nd inner rim of less than a quarter inch in width. There are other minor imperfections and small dings which may or may not have occurred in manufacturing. For sale is a 19th centry one gallon blue decorated stoneware crock by James Hamilton& Co. From Greensboro, PA. It measures approximately 10' tall and about 6.5' wide at the bottom and 4.5' at the top. This piece is in great condition. No cracks or chips that I can see. The only thing is the burn in the front. It looks like this happened when it was being made, not after, but I cannot be sure. You can see better picture of the burn in the picture details. There may be other minor imperfections and small dings which may or may not have occurred in manufacturing. This jar is really nice and has no mentionable flaws other than a shallow crack touching the G in Greensboro, which I suspect was done during manufacture of the jar. Up for your consideration is a rare large 4 gallon Cowden and Wilcox drooping tulip. This crock is very clean but in fair to good condition. It has a t-shaped crack at base in front as pictured and extends to the base and is y-shaped. These cracks are not visible to the eye upon display and it sure does display beautifully. There is also a tiny chip as pictured above the maker's mark. This will be packaged carefully and shipped fully insured for safe arrival. Packaged can be delivered or picked up locally as well.

See all pictures posted for condition; Large chip out of rim, crack across the base and a hole as shown in photos. 9 1/2" tall and 6" across the top. Very unique. Old advertising piece. Unable to make out the words on the crock other than the Kitanning, PA.

Antique 1800s Stoneware Canning JAR Crock DECORATED Cobalt Blue MD, VA, PA, WV
19th Century Stoneware Storage Jar about 9 Tall x 5-1/4" Diameter. Very Good condition with normal signs of age and original flaws from the making process. There are no chips or cracks. Just some old paint splatters on the surface. There is a flaw on the bottom that looks like a crack, but it is from the firing process and does go thru the base. Rings when tapped.
