In all my years of collecting. I've NEVER seen a jug as interesting and unusual(and RARE) as this one! Out of a local estate. This piece floored me. Base is a cream colored stoneware jug with a handle. Blue writing all around. Brain-line logo. Not sure what it stands for. Some illegible. But some examples are: Byrams best brand pure white malt vinegar a perfect product. And. It will prolong life and vitality it will preserve meats fish vegetables for years prepare salads it will destroy all germs. and. It contains the essence of wheat barley oats celery combined with liquid. Overall condition is pretty good. Considering its age, with minor loss to the finish and some fading of the lettering. The handle was broken off at one point and was glued back on(badly. Rare stamped 2 gallon"Riedinger& Caire Poughkeepsie. NY" stoneware bird crock. This is from about 1855. The body of the crock is near perfect but it has 4 rim chips of various sizes with a tiny bit of rub on the lug handles. This storage jar has a thick heavy salt glaze. You don't find them like this very often with a beautiful cobalt blue bird setting on a branch.so the chips don't hurt it much. The crock is 11" tall.28" around and 8 1/4" on the base. There is an old chip repair on the top edge(see pics below) and some other imperfections that add character to the piece most look original to the piece. For example. On the first pic below there is a chip piece that is stuck to the glaze above where it came from during original firing. This piece is in great shape with a couple small glaze pops and a swallow chip on the handle.this piece is not signed but the double ring neck. This piece measures 12 inches tall and 6 inches across the bottom.this would be a great addition to any southern pottery collection.this piece is listed in the North Carolina pottery book.

This is the much more rare jug from"The Western Pottery Company" Among the first to form a pottery works in Denver and Colorado was the Queen City Pottery Company in 1892. Producing jugs, crocks, pitchers and other house wares. The Western Pottery Company essentially replaced Queen City in 1906. As stoneware declined in use for shipping and storage with better refrigeration and canning processes, stoneware use declined and Western went out of business in 1936. About 11" high. Marked F. B. NORTON Worcester Mass. This salt glaze oyster jug was thrown between 1858- 1894. Leaning toward the earlier date. One chip on lip is the only damage. This is visible in the pictures. Handle and base are wonderful. Two incised lines around neck. Standard 2 1/2 inch oyster opening. Jug stands 11 1/4 inches tall, with a 7" base. Not an easy size to locate. Nice and clean. I package well and ship fast. Insurance is included in shipping cost. Shipping quote is for the continental United States only. Alaska. Hawaii and elsewhere must be adjusted for.
