Overall it has a tall, slight flared upright shape like a fine pail with great dignity and usefulness to industrious housekeeper.remember Mrs. Bridges from Upstairs, Downstairs? Hudson would approve and no doubt Downton Abbey has a few on display as well. It stands 6.25" tall and 5.75" across open top. I would guestimate, holds about a quart liquid capacity overall. This chocolate brown glazed"moonshine" jug was recently dug. It stands 9" tall. 7" wide, 5 1/2" base and the opening on the mouth is 1 1/2" wide. There are NO cracks on this beauty. On the lip is a tiny chip that is smoothed. just some scratch marks due to being buried since the 1800's. Still exceptionally shiny glaze. Is in solid condition The photos bring out everything on this jug. yet to the naked eye it has a deeper chocolate brown look and the scratches are not visible. All in all a cool collectable. Here we have a Vintage 10" Tall Lidded Glazed Stoneware Preserves Fruit Jar. The color in photos is accurate. Someone painted some yellow flowers on it but it could be removed in wanted. The lid fits securely with a little rocking but ok. There is wear here and there and a small chip on the bottom edge. As shown. Measures 7-1/2" in diameter(handle to handle) It's fairly clean inside. Nice handled jug. I see no markings on the item. It is about 10" tall without the cork. There are a few chips along the bottom edge but nothing that would not be expected for its age. The largest is mostly on the bottom. The upper edge of the white also has some chips as seen. Jug weighs about 6 pounds. There are no cracks or anything that I found that would prohibit it from holding liquids. I see no damage to the upper brown area including the handle and mouth area. Photos should show details. Early Salt Glazed Advertising Stoneware Merchant Jug Preserve Jar CHICAGO ILL
Available for sale is an early salt glazed stoneware preserve jar. The advertising merchant jar is stenciled in blue with 3/4" block lettering& reads"THE Q. W. LOVERIN CO. WHOLESALE DEALERS IN GENERAL MERCHANDISE- 55- 59 WABASH AVE. CHICAGO" The stenciling has been lightly applied but is certainly legible. It measures 9 3/8" in height. 7 1/4" diameter base, dates from 1870- 1895. It's approximately a one& half gallon size jar. The jug is in excellent condition with a single 1/2" shallow flake on the inside rim(see Pic) It displays well with six(6) lines of advertisement. Early salt glazed containers from this era are seldom seen. A great Chicago example!

Please check my other items. I always have a nice variety of old things I am finding in my area. Vintage Old MONON Railroad Train Railway Glazed Stoneware Pottery Water Jug Just one serious collector and this water jug will be gone! Acquired in upper Central Indiana from an estate. This is a glazed stoneware crock that is marked MONON ROUTE in blue letters across the front. These were used to carry water for the engineer or crew. This jug holds approximately one gallon of liquid. No cracks. One filled in chip on the bottom(which does not go through to the inside) and with a few small chips around the bottom edge and the usual minor mold flaws and that are commonly found on these items. The surface has a mottled look in places. But this is normal and common for these utilitarian items. A must-have for the Monon collector. Or for someone who ... morespecializes in collecting railroad-marked pottery pieces. As far as I know, there are only a few railroad-marked water jugs from perhaps 6 or 7 railroads. These crocks were never meant to last very long and to find one in this great condition is unusual. Imagine these being moved around and set in any given place on a moving train; the chances of their survival with that kind of use is minimal at best. These are not easy to find and I personally will suspect I will never find another as many were simply broken or tossed away when better ways of carrying water came along. For sale is an antique/primitive crock. To the best of my knowledge. This is a salt glazed crock/jug. I don't know if this is a 4 gallon or 5 gallon crock. But it measures approximately 17 inches tall and approximately 12 inches wide. I don't quite know what the shape is done in the blue, but most likely this was some form of bee sting.This was found in an old farmhouse of a hoarder, where most of the items had been there for over 100 years. Most likely this is something that they had in their family for a long time. I paid shipping to and from these people and can only feel very sorry for them. I will ask for pictures of the item before recalling anything. DAMAGE: If your item is broken in shipping. We will allow the shipping company to follow their procedure of picking up the item and performing their investigation. Please do not discard shipping materials and you will need to provide pictures of the damage to proceed with filing a claim.
