This Rare 2Gal. Taunton Blue Bird" Crock is absolutely stunning. The Cobalt decoration is big. Bold and flawless; a perfectly executed Slip-Trailed design. This folky Bird is heavily shaded and perched on a thick, dotted twig. Clearly impressed on the shoulder: F,T, WRIGHT& SON, TAUNTON, MASS. There should be periods, rather than commas(F.T. WRIGHT) but this stamp error only adds to the appeal! Franklin Wright(and his son) ran this Massachusetts stoneware manufactory for 10 years, beginning in 1866. Fine, consistent Salt Glaze exterior; Albany Slip inside; some age-appropriate mineral stains on the rim and inside edge. A few insignificant nicks on the inner rim; otherwise in excellent overall condition! No cracks, repaired damage, restorations or other excuses! This is a lovely large salt glaze crock with a beautiful large cobalt blue bird standing on a branch in the front. The blue design is 9 3/4" long X 6 1/2" high. Each side has the applied ear handles. Which are in excellent condition. This is a very decorative collectible crock. The bird design is eye-catching. Markings: Huxstun Ottman& Co. Fort Edward. NY 4(4 gallon) Circa: 1867- 1872. Measurements: 11 1/4" tall. 11 3/4" in diameter at the rim. Base is 11 1/2" in diameter. Condition: Very clean inside and sturdy but there is a tight hairline that runs half way down the back and into the base. Shown in picture 6& 7 as well as the last two pictures. There are external discoloration stains at the bottom ... moreand on the base as shown in the pictures. The bottom of the base shows a spider hairline, see last two pictures. Here is an antique stoneware butter churn with a large bird on the front. There is no wood pole. What is included is what you see in the photos. There are chips on the lid- one large one on the top of the brown glaze edge and some shallow flecks, the rest of it uneven areas appear to be under glaze and original to it. Also there is glaze loss on the handle. The churn itself has chips along the rim and some cracks, pretty much all above the level of the top of the ear handles. The body of the churn and base edge is fine. Measures about 17" tall and it is a bit over 7" across the opening, and at the widest point about 10" across. See photos for condition detail. Circa 1850 LARGE BLUE BIRD ON BRANCH 4 Crock New York, Jersey? GREAT CONDITION
Up for auction is a beautiful antique crock circa 1850. Features a large blue bird on a branch. Probably of New York or New Jersey origin. Overall really nice condition. Has some white on the interior of the crock from original contents that could clean. There are absolutely no lines or cracks, and only one small rough spot(chip) on the interior edge of the crock that could be easily filled and there is one small potstone towards the base. Also a very small hardly noticeable nick on the exterior rim on the left above the ear. Overall nothing that isn't on 98% of these pieces though and in I would say excellent shape overall, with the areas mentioned not affecting value and the easiest types of spots to fill if you wanted too. Vintage Stoneware Crock W. Lid Blue & Ivory Asian Lotus Flower/Bird Numbered
I am offering for your consideration a gorgeous ivory and blue Asian stoneware crock. I acquired this numbered piece at an estate sale and do not know the exact age. But it appears to be very old. Its condition is very good with no chips or major cracks- only micro crazing due to age. There are some areas of discoloration(mostly on the inside) Please study the pictures carefully as they are its best description. It measures 5 3/4" high with lid and 4 3/4" wide. Embossed in bands near the top and bottom are rope-like and other details highlighted with gold. A bird and lotus flowers in cobalt blue with gold highlights decorate this beautiful crock. I have not seen one like this anywhere. I feel this unique piece would make a great addition to any antique stoneware collection or stand beautifully on its own. Title: Old Antique Large White's Utica Cobalt Blue Bird Design 3 Gal. Stoneware Jug Descr iption: Presented for your consideration is this interesting stoneware jug. The jug has an intricate and unusual bird design on the front in cobalt blue. Above the design is"3 White's Utica" in matching cobalt blue lettering. The jug has a natural grey coloration and is finished with a smooth glaze. A small handle is on the side of the crock for easy carrying. Dates to the 1860s-70s. This nice stoneware jug would make a great addition to any stoneware or antique jug collection! There is surface chipping in the design and another surface chip is to the left of the design. A smaller surface chip is to the right of the design. Hairline spider cracks are in the bottom edge. Side and near the top. Deepest cracks are near the bottom, next ... moreto the design. A faint surface crack is in the side of the rim of the top opening. Permanent marker markings are on the bottom and felt stoppers were added to the bottom of the crock at one point. This crock is stoneware and was used for pickling and fermenting food and/or water. This crock has an intricate bird design on the front in cobalt blue. Above the design is"W. Roberts Binghamton NY 4" in cobalt blue lettering. The crock has a natural grey coloration and is finished with a smooth glaze throughout. Inside of the crock is dark brown. A small handle is on each side of the crock for easy carrying. Dates to the 19th century. This crock would make a great addition to any stoneware or crock collection! The front of the crock. Near the design is sunk in; a flaw in the manufacturing of the crock. Crock sits uneven due to the flaw. Another flaw, a flattened portion, is ... morealso on the front near the bottom. Please see the photos to see the severity of the flaw. A chip is out of the inside top edge and a small chip is out of the exterior near the bottom edge. Small surface chips are on the front with the largest being near the bird's tail. Felt stoppers were added to the crock at one point. Typical minor wear from age and use. No cracks. F.B. Norton Sons 3-Gallon Bird Crock about 10-1/2 Tall x 10-3/4" Diameter. Very Good condition with normal signs of age and original flaws from the making process. The spots within the blue lines are from the kiln. The white stains inside are typical water-glass marks which are often found on old stoneware. As it was originally made for use. There are no chips or cracks, just some old stains on the surface which looks like it came from rusty water/dirt wherever it was stored over the years. Rings when tapped.
