This auction offers a wonderful antique stoneware crock with a bail wire handle and it's original lid. Overall the crock is in great conditon for it;s age. There are some flaws such as a small chip on the top rim of the crock. And inner rim of the lid. Ware along the top rim of the lid and handle. A small crack on the side of the crock. We have pictured all of these flaws, so please look at the photos before bidding. All and all this antique is in great condition. It is approx. 11" high from the top of the handle to the bottom. The material is stoneware with a blue and white glaze(may be a salt glaze) The bail handle has a black wooden grip. The bottom has an impressed Star with 3 outer rings of a raised block look. The top ri. Is a solid blue and has a nice design on the bottom edge. The maker is unknown but the blue marks on the inside near the top were probably their marks. There are a couple chips on the top edge but they have been there awhile as they are very smooth and the one seems to have some ... moreglaze in it also. The biggest flaw is a crack in the bottom of the bowl going about 1/4 of the way around the bottom. This crack can also be seen on the outside(in pic) This is a great old piece of history and would have great visual appeal for a collection. Antique Blue & White Spongeware Spatterware Stoneware Bowl with Bail Handle
This bowl is wonderful. The color is a deep blue and the blue is flowing. There is a small chip on the bottom of the rim and a surface crack on the bottom of the extension where the bail handle is attached. There is also a surface crack that runs the width of the rim and an inch down the bowl. It looks like it was there from firing. It has not gone thru the side of the bowl. You can't even see evidence of it when you look at the top of the rim so it is not deep. On the bottom outside of the bowl is an impression of a star. It is in the pottery itself. This is not a repo.

Great old covered butter crock with bail handle. This crock measures 7 3/4" in diameter and 5 3/4" in height to the top of the lid. It is made of a yellow clay with a blue/gray salt glaze textured body and raised blue floral design. The number 3 is embossed in the rim of the base just above the floral design(see photo#2) It is in fine condition having no chips or cracks in base or lid. With the band having a bit of an attractive rust colored patina. The interior is highly glazed and a rich dark brown. This was part of the Lockwood Estate up the road from us and has been in my home for over 50 years. I have used it in the oven. But not on the stovetop, since I do not have a gas stove. The wire handle is very handy for carrying and this makes a very nice bowl for warming rolls. Etc. for a casual dinner. Of course it also makes a nice display. Antique Large Stoneware Crock with Wire and Wood Bail Handle - Pat Feb. 11, 1896
Description: This is a stoneware crock with bale and wood handle. The crock has the holes for the wire hanger fired into the stoneware. There was one of these that was smaller that sold recently on eBay that had the same patent date but was only about 2/3 the size of this crock. It measures 9" across x 9 1/4" high and it is 6 1/2" across at the top. There are no markings except for the" Patented Feb 11. 1896" fired into the lower part of one side. It is in good condition for this old crock with the normal firing flaws. It has some crazing on the outside but it is noticeable only at close examination. On the inside it looks like a couple of lines but they do not show up on the outside so I think none of these are cracks and comes from firing as you can see in my pictures. I am not any kind of an expert so I do not know if this is common for old stoneware but I do know that it makes that solid ringing sound when I rap my knuckle on it. Antique Stoneware Footed Bowl Wooden Bail Handle Vintage Brown Glaze Interior
This is a wonderful piece of primitive crockware. The wood and wire bale handle is sturdy and in very nice vintage condition. The interior is highly glazed in a rich chocolate. The exterior is an unglazed yellow band with a cream/ off white base setting on 4 feet. Approximately 9 5/8" diameter x 5" tall without bale x 9 3/4" tall with bale. As you can see in the photo. There are some small chips on the interior not unusual for a piece of this age. The feet are in very nice condition and the bowl itself is in very nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. This is an antique crock jar/whiskey jug that belonged to my Mom. It looks to be very old. It has a wire bail and wooden handle. It appears to be a gallon size. And is 9 1/2" tall to the top of the crock. As you can see from the photos, there is a chip around the outside edge of the lip, and the wire bail is bent. The wire bail and wooden handle are original to the crock. Roughly measures out to be just under 1-1/2 gallons(6-quarts) No manufacture's marks of any kind. Family providence tells me this crock was made in the late 1890's to 1920's. Measurements: 9" tall x base diameter 9" x top diameter hole 5-1/2" This crock has some fine overall crazing(inside and outside) But overall it is in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. What a great decorator piece for the kitchen or any room of your house. Use it to hold flowers. Kitchen utensils, magazines, newspapers. the possibilities are endless. This is a great set of crocks that would add a nice vintage touch to your décor! The lot includes two crocks. One with a smooth, off-white, glaze and wooden handle, and the other with a rougher tan finish. The crock with handle measures 7.5" tall and 8" in diameter, and it has a lip around the top where a lid would have originally fit. It also has a wire and wood handle attached to it for easy carrying. The other crock measures 9" tall and 7" in diameter. This one also has a lip around the top to hold a lid, but the lid is not included.
